EXACTLY! I see a lot of people referring to Westboro Baptist Church (who we all hate) as though they’re somehow the Christian equivalent of al Qaeda. As soon as they take over an entire state and blow up a bus full of hostages, then feel free to do so, but otherwise, they aren’t the same. One is objectively less harmful than the other.
Saying you want certain groups of people to die and actually making them dead are two separate things. Even saying that they’re the closest thing to undermines the lives of all those who have died at the hands of Islamic Terrorists.

This is the mindset that irritates me. You can’t take historical documents and evaluate them based on today’s moral standards and then wonder why they aren’t as pretty as John Lennon’s Imagine.
I’m pretty sure the merit of a deity’s moral code should be immune to the passing of time. Pretty much if his morals were right then they should be right now because he’s God.

Concerning this “meager” existence debate…
I recently have gone through a conversion from a Christian to an Agnostic. I don’t wanna go into that except that I now believe that since the human race is ultimately doomed my best thing to do is to maximize my happiness in life and to help maximize other people’s happiness in life. I go to school and get good grades to eventually get a good job that I feel helps the world. I’m currently aiming to be a doctor and have all A’s and plenty of extra curriculars.
Being a doctor (sports Doctor specifically) would help people do what they love. I hope to have a family some day and think it would bring me a lot of true happiness. I also make a huge effort to donate to cancer foundations as much as possible. I read books, listen to music and watch movies a lot because they bring me happiness (when the content is good). I like to go on runs because it keeps me fit.
I wouldn’t consider being a Doctor to be meager in any aspect; even if it’s just a Sports Doctor. Sports fuels our economy and if you help the Athletes then they in turn can do their jobs which continues the cycle of productivity. That is certainly more worthy of note in my view than someone who is content at working at Target (but not ascending to corporate) for the entirety of their days.
Being kind, loving and passionate about maximizing everyone’s happiness in life is a worthy purpose of existence in my opinion considering the human race is doomed to die off eventually.
I think it’s important for the personal aspect of humanity but not for the practical.
