Just don’t go looking for his Facebook page, or you might find his retelling of the story of your conversation through animated GIFs and other memes, and the feeling will be ruined.

Youtube comment sections somehow happen to be even worse. A lot of that has to do with there being 13 year olds and entitled man children being abundant in the comment section but it’s still staggering at how pompous, childish and misinformed (and occasionally dishonest) some of these people are.

Don’t talk about Possessed like that!

Well maybe if Possessed kept his mouth and all other orifices shut I wouldn’t be speaking about him in such a manner.

And don’t talk about me like this!

You have said some “interesting” things on here but you haven’t surpassed the childish jackassary of some TFA haters I have encountered on the internet.

A new Mr. Plinkett review - The Force Awakens!
Time

Knightmessenger said:

I’m looking forward to seeing it. I actually think TFA is not as good as I first thought, because while the acting and directing is spot on, the plot doesn’t make sense. Han, Leia and Luke go back to doing what they were doing before Star Wars, which basically means everything they had achieved at the end of Return of the Jedi was undone.
This is another review that while not epic like Mr. Plinkett, I thought made a lot of good points.

The overall thing with George Lucas is that he needs to be used in moderation. Too much Lucas and you end up with the prequels. But too little Lucas and you end up with garbage like the Holiday Special or a missed opportunity like the Force Awakens.
Empire of course was just the right amount of Lucas influence with enough collaboration from others as well.

Luke was working on a moisture farm in TFA? I didn’t catch that scene in any of my 12 viewings of the film.

I just had a pretty nice encounter with a Walmart employee ho wasn’t a fan of TFA. I mentioned TFA during a conversation about another film and we had a brief conversation about retreading. I thanked the guy for helping me, told him I hope VIII is more to his liking and went about my business. No opinions were changed as it was a short conversation but it was nice to have a conversation with someone without any or that overarching internet shit ruining the experience.

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

So what do you guys think about how Luke and Leia look in this movie? It might be too late for 8, but if you could have made the choice, would you have asked mark and carrie to lose more weight for 8 and 9? Leia was supposed to lose weight for IV but she didn’t but she did lose weight later so they could still do it for 9.

Mark lost a lot of weight and he looks fantastic; especially with that majestic fucking beard he birthed. Carrie on the other hand…it’s not her weight that bothers me. Let’s say she has acquired some droid like features around her facial area.

Just watched the episode. Was that a little Jurassic Park reference when they’re meeting the Bindu? Kanan says “He’s here.” and then the broken halves of the thumper are thrown between him and Ezra?

This was a good episode. I’m with both of you with regards to Maul. It’s annoying that they brought him back, but I’m glad that they’re at least doing something good with him now that he is. I can excuse a differing characterization considering he had basically no character in TPM and he also had many years of going insane on a junk planet to change from who he was in TPM to who he is now.

I’m digging the Bindu. I feel like Kanan is truly becoming a Jedi now: shedding the lies and corrupt decadence of the old Jedi Order and learning what it truly means to be a Jedi, a lot of which is thanks to Bindu’s wisdom as the middle ground between dark and light.

Something tells me he favors the Light over the Dark Side of The Force. Just the way he interacts with Kanan and the way he talks about the Sith and other Dark Siders makes it possible that he’s not actually Force Sensitive who favors balance.

For a compelling Anakin, read the ROTS novelization or Labyrinth of Evil.

Fuck. Yes. Buuuut I don’t think it would be fair to use that version of Anakin either because there are multiple stories preceding it that develop Anakin’s character. And before anyone says anything I remember that the Before The Awakening books exist but that is one book per character and Anakin was either at the end of his arc or was pretty damn close to it (in the case of LoE) while Finn, Poe, Rey and Kylo Ren are at the start of theirs. We still have so much to know about these new characters. Rian Johnson has stated recently that Episode VIII will be diving into the core of these characters and what motivates them. With that being stated I think it will only be fair to compare Anakin to the ST characters at the very least Episode VIII comes out.

Better than the protagonists in TFA?

Eh, there’s only so much you can do with a TV character.

If you really think that then you need to watch more TV.

I don’t watch much TV but you’re right. You can do a lot more with a TV character. You generally only get 120 minutes to do something with a movie character.

Exactly when it comes to TV (especially dramas) you have like 44 minutes to develop a character and that is plenty. I recall that you watched the first Season of Breaking Bad and remember how much Walter’s character was developed in the first Episode ALONE. We know:

 • What his profession is

 • A couple of things from his past

 • Who he cared about and how he interacted with those people

 • His motivations for making Meth

 • and through various scenes the audience get’s to see a few of his personality traits

from just one episode. And with 5 Seasons of development Walter White is one of the most layered, nuanced and morally ambiguous characters ever written. There’s a lot one can do with a TV character…if they’re written right.

There is not a single thing in the PT that is better than TFA. Fact.

Well… no. I can think of at least 3 major points that are better in the PT movies than in TFA…

Music

2/3 of the PT takes TFA in this regard I agree.

narratives

And this brings up a question…What is more important: a good plot or the way in which it was executed? I say execution because even though the actual story of TFA is lacking it executed pretty well which actually made it enjoyable whereas ROTS has the best story of the saga (on paper) but I can’t enjoy it because the story was executed poorly on almost every level.

global aesthetics

I’m going to need some elaborating on this one.

If you need to B*tch about something... this is the place

I hope you’re not being serious…As dismal as life can be at times there are so many good aspects to it that the bad things almost don’t matter. If the things that used to give you joy do not have the same effect do other things. Take the bad in stride and find different ways to look at your problems can really effect your perception of things and in turn that should improve your mood. Lastly, fixate on the positives. Even if you have had tons of shit thrown at you on a particular day thinking of a couple of good things about that day can keep those dismal thoughts away.

Trust me man…I’ve been there and still drift there every now and again but whenever I go too deep I remember that I’m better than to be subjected by my own thoughts and my current situation. There’s no reason why you can’t shake off whatever it is you’re feeling.

I don’t think the criticism went far enough. Instead of the lack of “sex” it should be that there was no heart in the proceedings.

I gotta disagree with this one. The Secrets of The Force Awakens Documentary showed how much the film makers cared about making a good movie. Now whether they actually did is up for debate but the thought behind it was pure.

But worst of all is the complete lack of backstory

There is backstory; it’s just not completely told yet.

combined with the fact that TFA really has no driving motivation for any character other than plot advancement. It becomes so darn hard to care. Even the worst of EU materials generally had this. Even the prequels did in spurts.

I disagree with this too

Rey: wants to get off Jakku and live with her family

Finn: wants to get away from the First Order and wants to get with Rey

Kylo Ren: wants to become fully immersed in the Dark Side

but when we compare it to SW here are the motivations for the main trio in that film:

Luke: wants to get off Tatooine and wants to join the rebellion

Han: wants to get rich

it is clear the characters in TFA had some type of motivations even if they were separate from getting the droid back to the Resistance Base. I left out Leia and Poe because they both don’t have aspirations beyond what the plot revolves around.

I watched the first season of Dexter.

It’s a great show, but between it and Hannibal, I’m starting to get really unsettling dreams. I think I’m going to be giving these types of shows a break for a while to watch more comedy.

9/10

What do you think of Doaks?

Not sure yet.

That’s exactly how I felt too. I initially thought he was going to be one dimensional but was surprised as how developed he was for a side character. His relationship with Laguerta especially threw me off balance.
