So she needs guidance and teaching, not real training. Pretty much aligned with what is seen in the Original Hexalogy (and CW/TCW/Rebels).

She needs that too. Until she can do shit like lift an X-Wing with the Force she needs training. Hell, her even beating Kylo Ren in completely neutral circumstances may be enough.

I’m not much of a soundtrack guy at all, so I really have no opinion on any them…but it’s interesting to hear you guys discuss how good TFA is after hearing months of how bad or boring it is.

That what happens when you listen to the soundtrack outside of the film.

I’m trying to imagine certain members here watching a movie outside of their brains.

Like a Vegan Shark that is most inconceivable. What is however are people not liking the soundtrack based on how it was presented in the film and to that I agree. The best example is “Snoke” which is a pretty good song but is reduced to mere background noise in the film.

Honestly it’s kinda background noise on the soundtrack too (probably the only track I regularly skip). I think the film used it exactly how it should have been.

By barely being able to hear it at all? Even though it’s more ambient than most songs on the soundtrack you can still hear the chanting clearly which you can’t when watching the film. And the 2nd part of the song is even less audible.

The mix is just fine considering it’s ambient nature, I do think you should just barely be able to hear it.

If the volume was a little higher (even by a smidget) it would be perfect

The second part, with the strings, is in the second Snoke scene so if you’re looking for it in his first scene you won’t find it.

You’re right about that and you can definitely hear it in the second scene but again it’s more or less background noise. The chanting I kind understand but we should have been able to hear the strings a little more. I don’t recall other SW soundtracks burying melodies such as that one in the mixing.

If memory serves Obi-Wan trained Luke in SW and then Yoda trains him in ESB…if that’s true that could only mean…

Yes, it does mean it. In both movies Jedi Masters are introduced as crazy old hermits that after their covers get blown up start speaking as mystical leaders. But that’s forgivable in Empire, and happily it’s something that wasn’t used again in the saga, now that I think of it.

I wasn’t being serious dude. Also, Owen called Ben crazy but he never acted that way around Luke before he revealed himself to be a Jedi. He was talking to Luke in their first scene together like he did in their last scene together. He certainly wasn’t throwing Luke’s stuff out of his Speeder while giggling

I don’t know if this movie is going to be a soft rehash or not. I just wished the whole overarching trajectory of the trilogy wasn’t a soft reboot of the political state of the galaxy at the beginning of the OT, but that is what it seems to be: The Jedi gone. An Imperial opressive force. The good guys being underdogs.

If anything the playing ground is pretty even after the destruction of the Hosnian System and Starkiller Base. And before that The First Order was more or less in the same position the Rebels were in the OT.

It means they did not rehash Obi-Wan from ANH but they did Yoda from ESB. I do not think anyone claims they rehash every single concept. They only rehash most of them.

Based on the fact that she will be trained in the 2nd movie and on some new planet…which is barely the premise of the training. We don’t know what type of teacher Luke will be, what he will teach her, how she will react to the teachings and even if she will complete her training.

Daisy Ridley did day that she didn’t think Rey was a Jedi…Perhaps Luke trains her to become something different and she eventually starts a new Order of Force Wielders. That would be pretty ballsy imo

I don’t believe anything that anyone says about a movie they are creating until I’ve seen it.

I don’t see Daisy as the type to lie or tell half truths when it comes to upcoming Star Wars films

I didn’t know you guys were friends.

We’re besties actually.

EDIT:

In all seriousness even if I don’t know her personally we can simply look back at her behavior pre TFA and see if she was truthful about the statements she made prior to that film’s release. If she didn’t lie then I don’t see why she’d lie now.

I don’t see Daisy as the type to lie or tell half truths when it comes to upcoming Star Wars films but I’m still somewhat skeptical because these are merely her musings. What is portrayed in the film will likely be more clear cut to the rest of us.

Regarding Ewoks in ROTJ, I remember seeing something years ago, that Lucas originally wanted to make a planet of Wookies.
It could’ve been on a Discovery Channel program. However, since the Chewbacca costume was made of horse hair, and was extremely expensive, they had to change it completely. Make a planet of small creatures, using less expensive material. The name Ewok came from Economical Wookie = EWOK.

Having Wookies would have made the Battle of Endor more enjoyable to watch and more believable but I still feel as though the time that was spent on the Ewoks should have been allocated to the trio.

I like characters that go through stuff. If they don’t go through stuff, it’s just a documentary, and a bad one at that.

Exactly. There’s nothing in ROTJ that states everything would be peaceful and nice for the rest of eternity so I don’t see people’s problem. Even though I’m fine with how the ST opens I would have preferred to have everything be peaceful so we can enjoy the tranquility so that everything can turn to shit in front of our very eyes.

Using them as merely as a distraction and cutting screentime would fix the issue with the Ewoks. My biggest issue with them is that when watching them I know there could have been something more substantial in their place. And I’m not speaking them being replaced by a new species; I’m talking about character development, character interactions or generally fleshing out the story. If so much time wasn’t spent on the Ewoks we could have gotten scenes where Luke actually completes his training.

After watching the OT and TFA this I have a few things to day:

  • STAR WARS improves slightly with every viewing and the stretch when C3P0 and R2 crash on Tatooine is more enjoyable this time around

  • Unfortunately I feel the exact opposite for Return of The Jedi as I’m less satisfied every time I watch it and the Ewok segment was pretty brutal this time around

  • After not seeing TFA since May I have the say the movie definitely holds up

Yup. Especially ROTJ.

Beyond the Luke/Vader/Papatine stuff I think the film is more entertaining than well written.
