The worst thing about TFA was the lack of dead Ewoks.

Well they did cut the scene where Ren goes to Endor to get grandfather’s mask. 😉

Oh man I hope we get to see that. Ren roasting an Ewok on a spit…

Don’t be silly. He couldn’t even beat the poor untrained girl. The bears would roast his ass, literally.

Well he was dying from a bowcaster shot, his sword arm had been damaged from Finn’s lucky hit and he was mentally unstable. I’d give the kid a break. He is a villain in training after all.

They cut 30 years of the past as well.

Look on the bright side, 30 years of past was untainted. 😃

Every second of those 30 years will be explained eventually. So keep those tears ready for later use.

who it seems that the movie was made for.

That’s the biggest load of squirrel feces I’ve ever heard about TFA. With all the nostalgia boners they planted into the movie for us to receive it was mostly made for the fans. Also if you haven’t seen the OT you’re going to be lost as to why some of these character’s are so damn important. I took my sister (who is 15) to see TFA a couple of weeks ago and she thought Max Von Sydow’s character was Luke. So I don’t want to hear that shit.

Tough, that’s how it is. Made for fans, yes. The ones who are millennials (which doesn’t count your 15 year old sister, if she is unfamiliar with SW) and who want their own version of the OT experience - by making a flyby of OT setups and re-performing them.

Well most millennials won’t watch the OT before watching the TFA. I couldn’t get my 44 year old father to see the OT so most of them are just going to gloss over them.

The phrase “that’s my opinion” is pretty insufficient when TFA is superior to the PT in pretty much every way. The dialogue, the characters, the pacing, the acting, the special effects, the action etc. But the most important thing is that TFA actually felt like Star Wars while the PT didn’t most of the time.

stop pretending it is anything more than that.

I don’t really have a response to this because I can feel you conjuring up a storm of entitlement because I’m not kissing your feet because you happened to mutter the “O” word. Just know that an opinion such as that which most people would regard as unwarranted is worth less than nothing.

Roughly this:
1 TESB
2 ANH
3 ROTJ
4 ROTS
5-7 TPM, AOTC and TFA (in release order)

Lunacy.

When was the last time you actually watched the PT? I watched them all over the past few weeks, including ROTS last night. We watched L8wrtr’s versions, so the worst of them is removed…and they’re still not good movies. I don’t have a problem if you didn’t like TFA, but equating them with the PT makes me wonder how well you remember the PT.

Will you already stop attacking people because they think TFA is shit?

The phrase “that’s my opinion” is pretty insufficient when TFA is superior to the PT in pretty much every way. The dialogue, the characters, the pacing, the acting, the special effects, the action etc. But the most important thing is that TFA actually felt like Star Wars while the PT didn’t most of the time. And I know TFA’s plot isn’t entirely original but a semi repackaged plot is better than a subpar one. Or in ROTS’ case a plot that was pretty good but that could have been exponentially better.

  1. R2 and C3P0 happen to land somewhere conveniently on the side of the planet where Luke is

R2 piloted the escape pod to the location Leia told him to go. The escape pod was navigable, unlike the TIE fighter Poe and Finn were in in TFA

That was never established in the film. Nice rationalization though.

Sorry to come back to this point so late. Here it is, straight from the official 1976 novelization of the original script:

Artoo’s seemingly random manipulation of the pod controls promised anything but a smooth landing, however. Threepio regarded his squat companion with concern. “Are you sure you know how to pilot this thing?”

Original script or nay it matters not because the script has been revised and it mentions nothing about R2 piloting anything. I’m just going on what’s presented in the film and the official script.

           INT. IMPERIAL STARDESTROYER

On the main viewscreen, the lifepod carrying the two terrified
robots speeds away from the stricken Rebel spacecraft.

                                 CHIEF PILOT
                     There goes another one.

                                 CAPTAIN
Hold your fire. There are no life
forms. It must have been short-
                     circuited.

           INT. LIFEPOD

Artoo and Threepio look out at the receding Imperial starship.
Stars circle as the pod rotates through the galaxy.

                                 THREEPIO
                     That's funny, the damage doesn't
look as bad from out here.

           Artoo beeps an assuring response.

                                 THREEPIO
Are you sure this things safe?

This is not truly a topic of great concern in my view, but a thought did occur that perhaps R2 programmed the capsule prior to its departure? After all did he not appear to be in control of its launch, etc…?

Why does the escape pod look like it’s in freefall? Also why did it crash in the middle of nowhere (albeit conveniently in walking/riding distance from both Luke and Ben) and not somewhere closer to Obi-Wan if R2 knew where he was?

The matter, as I said, is settled by the novel: R2 piloted the pod. There’s no debate remaining. Sure, folks here can argue, if they want to, but they can also argue that the sky is green.

You’re taking the NOVELIZATION of the ORIGINAL script while the OFFICIAL script makes no mention of R2 piloting anything…Shite evidence if you ask me but whatever. Also too bad nothing that’s shown on screen reflects anything you say but I’m used to that now

TFA has none of this sophistication. Ren’s “inner conflict” is really poorly executed, especially when compared to Anakin’s.

That’s because the prequels had 3 fucking movies to flesh that out and TFA is only one. I mean yes I agree with you but it’s unfair to judge what could be an ongoing storyline based on the first part of it.

It is a shit film

You might not like it, but it absolutely and unequivocally is not a shit film.

Not liking a film and film being a shit is the same thing.

Saying “A film is shit” and “I think this film is shit” or “In my opinion the film is shit” are completely different statements. The former is an objective statement while the latter two are subjective.

His decision to kill his father is a wasted opportunity, as it should’ve had a greater inpact on his development (also possibly moving the scene earlier in the movie), making him either regret his decision or making him more determined in his actions.

This is something that needs to be in episode VIII. It would no place at the end of TFA. Also you can tell by the look on his face after he kills Han that he’s not entirely pleased.
