They could’ve kept it the way it is and gave Luke a few lines to make him answer about his exile and what’s his next move.

That would take more than a few lines but I see what you mean.

Alternatively, they could’ve had BB-8 already owning a complete map, so they can find him as soon as he gets to the Resistence’s base, so he can help with SKB. Of course, if you want to keep most of the plot the way it is, some scenes may need to be trimmed in order to fit in a 2 hours movie.

I would have been fine with that. Though I don’t think I would want him actually flying. I’d probably want him using Battle Meditation or something.

Also if he were back it would have been nice to see a scene with him and Kylo Ren.

Maybe, but my point is that every movie should close its main plot.

Which they did.

I think it could’ve been handled better, but I understand your opinion.

Me too but I still liked that we got to see him again.

See, had Ahmed Best not claimed he had a free hand in creating Jar Jar and someone else (implying GL or some other white person) had made Jar Jar with the traits Best gave him, Jar Jar would be the only one I might agree was a clear stereotype.

Maybe Ahmed accidentally helped in creating something that’s similar to black face and has never wanted to own up to that mistake. I’m sure the paycheck helped though

The others are not as clear as day. They match no stereotype I’ve ever encountered unless you nit pick and over analyze to find things that aren’t really there.

Looks and definitely sounds pretty clear from where I’m standing on the Asian side of it.

Greedo is a greedy alien who is hard to negotiate with and who happens to have a big nose

Not necessarily: having him help against the FO by saving the main characters, or even having him answer meaningful questions on his exile, would’ve been enough.

Fair enough. If we were keeping most of the story the same where in the film would you believe to be the best time that Luke is found?

Which doesn’t happen in TFA, though, unlike in the above examples I quoted.

Doesn’t really need to. We already know it’s going to happen.

Hey, don’t throw AVGN’s gifs at me, ok? 😄
I’m saying that it would’ve mattered more in the film if finding him answered the reason they were searching for him in the first place (save the Republic/Resistence, bring balance, whatever that is)

So you want an entire arc of an entire trilogy (being the destruction of the First Order/Saving the Republic etc.) to be in the first film?

-Rey and the other have to find Luke to ?

Start her training…

In a way, TFA’s end is abrupt, doesn’t conclude its plot in a meaningful way.

Well you’re entitled to your opinion and though I think Luke should have had dialogue I’m more than okay with having there be none which builds this momentous confrontation to even greater heights for VIII

No. Like going around the planets and find clues, characters, etc. related to it. That is what I meant when I said KOTOR, not the plot twist, which is irrelevant in what I talking about.

Well going to another planet to find a clue from a character (in this case part of a map) is a part of the plot. It’s just not emphasized as much as this Sherlock Holmes thing you’re trying to sell.

I think part of the problem here is that the search for Luke leads to nothing actually meaningful in the end

So a film in which the plot is about finding someone has an ending that isn’t meaningful because they find the person the plot revolves around?

it has no impact on the plot

Finding him was the plot…

not in this episode anyway.

The impact of finding him will reverberate through the rest of the trilogy yes but the film had an objective of finding this person and it accomplished that.

his disappearence

Like showing a flashback of him disappearing?

reasons for his disappearence

I’m not sure if you were paying attention or not but Han told Rey and Finn he left because he felt guilty about Kylo turning and killing all of his students…

See KOTOR for how something like that is done properly.

The Revan reveal was a plot twist so you can’t write a story around something you already know in a manner in which you would write a reveal. That wouldn’t make one iota of sense.

The content of a filler really doesn’t matter. It is still a filler in the end.

Nonsense. If the scene has an impact on the rest of the plot it can’t under any circumstance be called filler.

Please don’t compare this crap to OT. ANH did not end up with torpedo just before entering the DS shaft. ESB did not end up just before Luke stepped in front of Jabba.

Lol what? You’re acting as if the film ended just before she got on the world. She finds Luke and that’s all that matters because that’s what the plot was about.

lame… you need a random filler to make it a little less lame

I didn’t even say what the First Order or Knights of Ren scene would be about so how the fuck could you say it would be filler based on nothing? Also ESB started with The Empire sending out probe droids across the galaxy and ROTJ started with Vader going to the 2nd Death Star to oversee it’s building process so it wouldn’t be the first time we had villains being in the opening scene.

Get that nonsense out of your head already…

That is your opinion.

I don’t think you know what an opinion actually is. When there are clear as day racial stereotypes (although Jar Jar is not as overtly reminiscent to black face as the others are to their stereotypes) then it’s not an opinion. It’s a fact. Get over it.

People will use the the “my opinion” excuse for anything now a days.

Considering something racist when racism wasn’t the intent is completely subjective, so yes, this is about opinions. For something to be racist means that it is portraying a group (race) in a condescending or negative way with the intent of doing so. If you feel that these are racist and offensive, that’s your opinion, but it is not fact.

There are still racial stereotypes in the film. That is the only fact that should be in play as it pertains to the topic.
