Anyone want to preserve The Compleat Al? (A Mockumentary about Weird Al) (Released)

I'm always up for trading (still gotta reply to an InvisibleWolfMan email), but I'm too busy at the moment to do B&P for all of these discs. I sent a bunch of them to someone in this thread at some point. Maybe jamiemark.

That's terrible Are all the things already digitized and compiled or do they all need to be?

Whatever, anything is probably better than the VHS I used, though that wasn't in bad shape. This is such a funny movie, I don't understand why it doesn't have a larger cult following.

same here, I think it's a great kinda thing to watch, especially if you know alot about Penn and Teller - almost like "A Hard Day's Night" or "Help" for P&T fans

Anyways, I'm looking at my LD but it says nothing about it being P&S or WS - MYSTERY!!!!

If you're referring to the UK release, the cover is actually based on the book cover:

Funny if amazon.co.uk is selling an unofficial release as that's where the UK dvd is available.

Kind Regards,

I've been a fan of Dalton Trumbo for many years (Johnny is my favorite book of his, although Night of the Aurochs was pretty good for an incomplete work) so I was aware of the cover - sad that this probably won't get an official release

Clerks II - Making of a Train Wreck WebDiarys Preservation (Released)

In addition to the Train Wrecks at Clerks2.com, there was an IGN-exclusive one and a YouTube-exclusive. There was also another interview video from around the time at some point tat was a pseudo-Train Wreck. In addition to all that, after the movie came out on DVD, there were a few "Lost Tales" released at QuickStop Entertainment.com. Ideally, the set should include all that too.

Sadly the sucks less files are in *shudder* FLV format and pretty low res (320x240) - I was able to put them on one single layer disc (as well as some very very short extras from the series)

COOL, I'll dig around tonight and find the original files

Also, I have this on LD, but am not sure if maybe it has a commentary or something else extra - if so, I'd love to donate it to someone who can rip it and if possible send it back to me (although I don't have an LD player, I just love having an official copy of the movie)

Superman 2 edit for fun (Released)
Time

For a class project last year I had to create some advertisements using movie clips and music 30 years apart from each other - I ended up doing 3 ads matching up the following:

  • Superman 2 “I KNOW YOU’RE SUPERMAN SO NOW I’M GONNA JUMP OUT THE WINDOW!” scene with “Don’t” by Elvis
  • Life of Brian “I’M BRIAN AND SO IS MY WIFE!” scene with “16 Tons” by Tennessee Ernie Ford
  • Star Wars “GREEDO IS THE WORST BOUNTY HUNTER EVAR!!!11!” scene with “Folsom Prison Blues” by Johnny Cash

Well, I’ll upload these to YouTube later when I get home, but in any case I was thinking about it since joing this forum and for the superman 2 edit I made, I was able to make Lois look really offbalance and crazy and make Clark look like he really wasn’t superman - it makes more sense when you see the clip - but I was thinking about maybe editing all the parts where Lois and Clark are talking about superman from the first 2 movies (as they’re the only ones I’ve seen of the original 4) and editing out the parts where Lois does something stupid and Superman has to save her - would anyone be interested in seeing this edit?

it's not an official release (as most of these we see are) - they probably just transferred an LD or VHS and slapped some pretty good artwork together and figured that if it LOOKS official, then people will believe it is - sadly I was one of those people a few years back when I bought my first copy on ebay

You know what would be great? A DVD of just the Weird Al interviews - I know the specials are great (I watch them anytime they're on) but the interviews are the real prize in there. I just wish someone had really good quality ones, not like the ones on al-oholics anonymous (which are good enough to tide me over..)

Penn & Teller Get Killed - a preservation (Released)
Time

Ok, back when I did this I didn’t know it was a preservation thing but I had a friend who I knew online send me this HD-TV rip of Penn & Teller Get Killed - I believe the file was 700+ MB and great quality after I tranferred it to DVD using Nero, and creating a menu and artwork. Well, I figured since it’s ripped from an HD channel, maybe someone else more knowledgable can make a hi-def DVD of this (if possible) - I figure the quality is as good as it’s going to get the way I did it, since it didn’t turn out larger than a single layer disc and is probably the closest to an official release as we’ll get

Anyways, I just went way off tangent there… if anyone wants the AVI of this I’ll see if I can dig it up out of my archives and upload it somewhere and see what is available to do with it. If anyone is interested in the DVD I made, let me know

Keep up the great work guys.

In response to you (but also everyone in this thread!) I've been a part of a few great cover forums over the past 2 years, and by far the best quality stuff comes from a little place I've made home at called Customaniacs. I'm not trying to pimp them out or anything but there are literally DOZENS of Star Wars cover sets in professional quality, but the only downside is a download fee (which actually isn't bad at all considering it's only to pay for the bandwidth and to keep the site up)

I've been doing custom covers for a while now and I've been itching to do some Star Wars covers and now I have a chance, and when I'm through with them I'll make sure to upload them here for everyone for free

edit: btw, by far the best covers on that site are from guys called SithAngel, DarthVong and moviefan2k4 - all excellent sets!

If so, does the France transfer fair better? I'm also interested in this quite heavily, and am willing to do a PiF deal concerning it.

Kind Regards,

InvisibleWolfMan

I don't have that one but I do have a Japanese dvd, most likely sourced from VHS, but it has japanese subtitles... idk, but the quality I'd rate about a 7 (if taken from a VHS) - if from laser disc... I'd rate it lower

I'll have to post screencaps when i get home later - either way the movie is better quality than some I've seen, but definitely could be better if given proper treatment

edit: has anyone seen the 2007 Portuguese release? I hear the transfer is pretty good

How to?
Time
Hey guys, I have alot of time coming up during winter break and I wanted to start doing fan edits and such at the best possible quality so if my source is on DVD and I want to extract both the Audio and video, what is the preferred method to do so and what editing software should I be using (I'm currently using Vegas Video 4.0, but it's limited sometimes to what formats it accepts)

In the past I've ripped video to AVI using clonedvdmobile and edited in vegas video and exported to MPEG or AVI - only problem is that for a relatively short file, those end up being many GB, so I'm afraid to attempt a full fledged movie edit

Thanks in advance for all your help and advice!

- adrian

edit: just found adigitalman's pinned thread above - if anyone still wants to answer specific questions I asked, I'm all ears!

Twilight Zone The Movie HD2DVD (Released)

Also, the image you used on the Twilight Zone movie has nothing whatsoever to do with the actual film. Why not use a different image?

I think he was trying to emulate the VHS cover (which h did pretty well, in terms of the actual picture)

Also, if no one knew already, this has been FINALLY released on DVD, albeit without any special features

'Decline of Western Civilization Pt II: The Metal Years' (Released)
Time
I had a friend record this straight onto dvd from IFC last year (perfect quality!) but for whatever reason have not been able to copy it - I'm guessing because it was done with a set top dvd recorder

Anyways, although the site has said "coming soon" for a few years now, at least we know Spheeris is taking the time to do it right, hopefully with tons of extras (since she has all that extra footage)

As for right now, I can see about copying mine again and sending it out to someone to PIF and preserve it (since I'm not able to upload or torrent)

Also, part 3 was only available in very limited quantities via the official site for a short time last year (all free!) and since then Spheeris has discontinued this... Only problem is that you had to sign a waiver and such that you would not redistribute the video in any form... so...

Clerks II - Making of a Train Wreck WebDiarys Preservation (Released)
Time
I've never done a preservation or anything like this (other than for myself using terrible quality sources) but I'm busy dl-ing the train wrecks for the 3rd time now (I had them all downloaded back as they were coming out, then ended up having to clean my HDD, then downloaded some again, and this will be my 3rd time downloading them)

I've also got all the episodes of Kevin Smith's MTV-U online-only show "Sucks Less with Kevin Smith"

The only problem is that both of these are less than DVD quality - Sucks Less is 320 x 240 (I think) and Train Wrecks are 560 x 420

edit: just downloaded all the QT videos from the site and there are only 80 videos (3 of the 83 posts did not include videos) - the folder is 2.76 GB

Anyone know of the best way to go about transferring these to DVD with as minimal quality loss as possible?
