Info Wanted: The Dark Side Of The Moon - preservation?
Time

Hi everyone, I know I’ve been throwing myself into alot of projects here lately but I found something that I think might be worth preserving

I’ve never seen it but I’ve heard nothing but good things about it, a movie from the early 90’s called “The Dark Side of the Moon” ( http://imdb.com/title/tt0099364/ ) that has never been released on DVD

I have access to a VHS of it (not sure of the quality) but I have no VHS-to-DVD capturing equipment, so what I propose is that I will gladly offer the VHS up to anyone who would be so kind as to digitize it (if it’s even good enough quality to preserve)

Also, it would probably be just a barebones DVD with no extras, other than maybe the trailer >> http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=jrn3oazv8_I

after watching that, it kind of reminds me of alien, and it doesn’t look too bad at all

The Ben Stiller Show
Time
13 eps on 2 discs with commentary on a few of the eps as well as some extras

It falls a bit flat (well for me) some of the time but most of this is gold - especially the bits with Stiller doing his "do it, do it" character with celebrities

I found it on amazon for 5 bucks, used in very good condition (the discs are pristine but the case is a *bit* dented) so hopefully you can find a similar good deal >> http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00008PHCU/ref=dp_olp_2/002-3165262-4168034?ie=UTF8&qid=1196484286&sr=8-1

Doggy Fizzle Televizzle - has anyone preserved this? (Released)
Time

I’m curious if anyone has preserved this? I know it wasn’t the greatest show ever, but it sure was funny for what it was and I’m relatively certain that this will NEVER come out on DVD

Anyways, if it helps I know they’ll be showing at least one episode in the near future, as stated on the IMDB page for the show >> http://imdb.com/title/tt0369099/

Info: HOLY CRAP! LOOK What a Fan did to Superman II
Time
interesting, I didn't think that could be done even HALF as convincing as that - it would be interesting to see how far he can get using only what is available to the common fan - just to prove that it can be done well... I mean Richard Donner did great with his cut that was released, especially with the new superman/villains fight scene, but I'd love to see a FULL realization...

But then again, that is totally Donner's call in some respects... Just because it was in the shooting script doesn't mean it will make it into the movie - the real story telling is in the editing, and often, lopping off of stuff that you find out AFTER shooting doesn't work as well as originally thought.

With the exception of the ending I think Donner's cut stands out as the best of the 2, even if it's limited by what was shot 25 years ago

The Ben Stiller Show

I just got this DVD yesterday and although the first few episodes kinda suck, this show is really making me laugh. Lots of big talent before they got big like Andy Dick, Janeane Garofalo (sp?) Bob Odenkirk and of course Ben Stiller. Has anyone else seen this show?

So far my fave bits are "Kill Bob Shaffkey" and "Tito Gallegoes: Pig Latin Singer"

Preserving the...cringe...Star Wars Holiday Special (Released)

Since it's been aired in Australia at least two times (perhaps even three times), it's not outside the realm of possibility. I would be surprised if Lucas allows it given his distain for the program, but he may have no say in the matter. I'm a bit curious how it was allowed to have been aired as many times as it has. Perhaps a loophole in the ownership / broadcast rights. The program was produced by Gary Smith and Dwight Hemion for 20th Century Fox Television and CBS. He may own the program (as it was transferred to him back in the 80s from Smith-Hemion Productions) and the rights to the characters, but he may not own the broadcast rights (domestic or international). Then you have Home Video / DVD distribution rights... It's a legal nightmare... it's a wonder anything gets aired or released to dvd. If you want to see how complicated it can get, read about the legal issues encountered with the Dean Martin show, Greg Garrison and NBC: http://thegolddiggers.wordpress.com/2007/09/21/whose-show-is-it-anyway/ Another example is the Batman TV series from the 60s... you've got 3 or 4 owners, who can't agree, so it's hung up in legal limbo.

Anyway, the last I heard (a couple of years ago) was that Lucasfilm doesn't have the master tapes... they are apparently still in the posession of Smith-Hemion. The only copy Lucasfilm has is a poor quality VHS dub... no better than the rest of us. You'd think they would at least preserve the masters if they cared, but they may not "technically" own the tapes.

That's crazy stuff, man... Well hopefully there's some truth to the matter I heard and by this time next year we'll all have pristine HD copies captured off Australia FoxTel :-D

Clerks II - Making of a Train Wreck WebDiarys Preservation (Released)

I just got back from the store to pick up dual-layer dvds but said f*** it when i realized for a pack of 25, it's 65 bucks...

So I picked up two packs of 50 of the on sale brand for 2.99 a pack of single layer dvdr

Would it matter if I rendered this as a double layer, then used dvdshrink to make it fit a single layer dvdr? or should I just make this a 4 disc set?

I don't own it, but I have leafed through it and it's pretty interesting - lots of pullouts and stickers and iron ons and reproductions - it's like a pop up book for grownups!

In any case, I do think 60 bucks is a bit high, but it does look worth it. I'll probably pick it up once the price goes down to something like 30-40 bucks

Johnny Got His Gun: Keep the Home Fires Burning Edition DVD Project...half way through (* unfinished project *)

As promised, screen caps from my dvd - I haven't watched this in years and I'm actually kinda shocked at how decent the quality is - definitely sourced from a VHS tape (you can tell from the bottom and top) and it seems a bit misaligned, almost like it's slightly diagonal

sorry, but for whatever reason i can't post clickable thumbs - here's the link to my photobucket >> http://s20.photobucket.com/albums/b201/LinkTGF/

I sent a bunch of them to someone in this thread at some point.

That was me, but there are several things you listed that I didn't get. (maybe you didn't have them at the time) I didn't get any Al Musics from you and only 1 or 2 Al TVs. If you could send me the ones I'm missing, I'd be willing to help spread the goodness. (more than I already have) I'll e-mail you about it.
