That’s the point though, they keep adding new content to keep it going, but let’s say someone hates the new show but still loves Mando: they’re more likely to keep D+ (especially if there’s one other thing they’re curious about it enjoy) if there’s nowhere else to get it.

Years after it’s finished? Unlikely, or just unwise.

Since this show is in 4K, I’d hope the set will also be in 4K if there ever is one. I don’t think there are other TV shows released in 4K besides GOT? Or they could even be cheeky to release The Mandalorian just on regular BD, and have the 4K only on streaming. It could go any way, really. I have my doubts.

Interesting, but I really don’t care about post-TROS era if that is indeed true.

Anyone here seen the new LOTR discs? I can’t believe they still couldn’t put the EEs on one disc. Anyways, I watched comparison videos on Youtube and they seem to have been completely recolored. In some scenes it’s not that drastic, but most were very apparent. One color shot was even converted to black and white! Luckily I didn’t put my BDs on sale. If I understood correctly, TE and EE have now same coloring? If so, then that’s your first mistake since they’ve always been colored differently. Very disappointed, excluding the FOTR SEE BD they have had always great and faithful releases until this.

Very sad news. At the same time I sometimes almost forgot he was still alive since it had been so long when he retired. RIP.

Also worth noting the complete absence of competition. If this was a regular year it could be debated if it would have made that much. Nevertheless, that is heartwarming news.

I remember in the 90s and early 2000s SW was extremely uncool. I don’t think the PT enhanced it, more likely the exact opposite. It was the thing sweaty geeks liked and it was always the butt of the jokes on late night TV etc. Only after 2010 it began to change. It became nostalgic, geeks became cool, Disney bought it, all memorabilia went high on prices, it was everywhere. It became completely mainstream. Now it seems like it was always like that but I remember vividly that even talking about them you got some strange or even angry looks from “normal” people. That was also back when it wasn’t cool to use or play computers, now teenage girls use more technology than me and like more the new movies than me, for whatever the reason. Funny how things change.

I’m not talking about now or the upcoming months but like the next ten years and more. If there isn’t much money now, there for sure will later when physical Disney properties are commanding hundreds of dollars when they’ve been OOP for 20 years or more. Even VHS tapes are now in high demand on crappy films that don’t have any later releases. Just wait and see.

The article makes room for possible Star Wars releases still, but it really sounds like Disney’s about done with physical media, period. No catalog releases going forward. No promotion for the catalog releases they’ve already got.

If you were waiting for a 50th/60th anniversary box-set, you might never stop waiting.

While that may be true for now, it can change easily.

Firstly, there are all the physical media that is released to this point. If they don’t release anything ever again, prices of them will increase incrementally when people want to own something from their catalogue -> it’s up to Disney when they want to cash in on that and make their own releases again.

Secondly, if they don’t release any physical media at all, people will start (or continue…) torrenting the streaming content. The more they don’t want to release them, the more they will pirated -> again, it’s up to Disney how long they want to continue that happening.

Thirdly, people will sooner or later get fed up if/when Disney begins controlling what movie/version is available and what isn’t. When they do, they vote with their wallets and leave, and start contributing points 1 & 2.

Fourthly, I have a hard time to think that people will forever pay for D+ anyways. Again, points 1 & 2 will start to interest.

While this is great and fun news, you also have to remember that there literally aren’t any new movies coming up in months and haven’t been so there isn’t much else to show. If this was a normal summer, this wouldn’t be the case unless it was a wide release of the original or something special. But yeah, now is a good time to show the classics.

Does anyone have high res imagery of making of Rebel Assault II or Jedi Knight since they were actually shot? Even though only on blue screen but still. I’ve only found these scans from a magazine, so the real ones have to be somewhere.

There is one (well, 2) basic level mistakes in the article about C. Andrew Nelson.
“His convincing performance as Vader lead to him appearing as the character very briefly in footage inserted into the 1998 special edition of The Empire Strikes Back; a scene in which Darth Vader basically gets on and off a shuttlecraft.”
Of course, it’s 1997, but he only did the Cloud City shot. The landing was from ROTJ, so it is Prowse. Naturally Sebastian Shaw was in the suit as well, and also the one black ILM guy for the lightsaber insert in ROTJ. Maybe other “secret” ones as well.

While it was interesting, it barely covered anything. All the questions seemed to be beforehand asked/selected. I’d love to hear the full Marcia interview, that would be so great. It would be nice to know what she thinks about the prequels or if he and George have been in touch at all etc.

Thanks! They’ll be screening TESB here for the first time since 1997 I believe. I asked about the version (first they said 1997) and finally they got the right answer about the version, it’s “mastered in 2015” (or 2011 unless they are actually showing it without the FOX logo). Gotta go watch it, you never know if it’s the last time to see it in theatres. Only TESB, though, which is weird, but Disney gave it a go. And it’s not like any theatre, it’s the second biggest screen after IMAX in the country. So I guess I’ll survive the rubber mask emperor.

Quick question: is there a difference between 2004 and 2011 TESB?

It was used, the camera is above filming and they did have a shot from above when they were running to the Falcon with the matte painting around it. Cool image, I didn’t know it was shot outside.
