In some way yes, but on the other hand not really as in that was to be expected. In 1997 they marketed it as a special edition because they showed it in the theaters and it was new and special and they wanted you to believe it. It was an event. Naturally when they released them on VHS in 1997 the title was carried over. After that, it wasn’t never going to be a special edition for GL, but the only edition. It became the original trilogy. I’d be more surprised if it was called special edition all these years. My point is, it’s really not that significant but the way it was meant to be.
It’s the same type of fan who hated Ahsoka and Ezra, but then they grew up and they love them.

While that may be true for now, it can change easily.
If they’re moving forward with discontinuing the release of catalog titles (or possibly licensing those titles to boutique labels) they obviously don’t believe there’s much money here. Disney could “cash in” now if they want, and they don’t. They sent the Skywalker Saga set out to die, basically, and they hardly promote any of the new releases they do have. Physical media is dying and it seems like Disney has decided to (pun intended) let it go. It seems very, very much like they’re going to address the “do you want to own something from our catalog” situation by pointing people to Disney+. That’s the “cash-in” they’re pursuing.
If Mulan clears a profit (and it might be able to considering Disney doesn’t have to share any of that revenue with anyone, so the amount of money it needs to gross is much smaller) it seems like Disney+ is going to be how they move forward for everything. The physical media audience is niche enough that they don’t need to cater to it anymore, so they won’t. They’ll maybe accept money from some boutique label to press up limited edition blu-rays, but I wouldn’t be surprised if those licenses aren’t cheap and so whatever hopes of a Criterion-esque (or even Criterion) release of Disney/Fox classics will be limited. That’s if Disney decides to let those titles be licensed.
Piracy really isn’t that much of a concern to the bottom line, and hasn’t been for long while. It’s been more of a boogeyman than an actual threat to business, especially not to any business the size of Disney. Pirated copies of Hamilton and Black is King aren’t even denting Disney’s subscription numbers, for example.
I think if there are hopes for a future Star Wars release that maybe someday possibly involves an official release of the theatrical versions, that release is going to be on Disney+. It’ll be a bonus feature they add one day. This announcement seems to be pointing that way.

As for other fan releases. The Silver Screen addition had no cropping regulations over it, so they could show more of the visible frame as people may have since it when in the theaters. Then for 4K77 they made the decision to return to a cropping as seen in official home releases.
I think it was just that the Technicolor print had less image than the LPP. I don’t remember them cropping anything that wasn’t necessary.

That episode came in fall 1996. In 1996-1997 SW was again everywhere, so there were a lot of shows from that time making references. 3rd Rock was another that springs to my mind immediately having Hamill. This trend went on until 2005. Likewise before TFA, SW was again everywhere, for example in Pawn Stars they had a SW item coming in every month during the hype. I’ve collected these kind of snippets to my archive so it’s fun to see the progression and it capsulates the time.
Jurassic Park, hands down. It’s my favorite right after the OT. Second best is Duel.

I will admit watching the ANH clip posted above does sound a little different than I remember. Not drastically so. It’s obviously the same recording. Just… a little more processed? Or processed a little differently? Something.
In 2004 they tried to match his voice to the sequels. I’m surprised if people hadn’t noticed, I’ve only seen the 2004 version 3 times and noticed straight away!
Edit: and I didn’t even click the links so I don’t know what’s in them.
Also to note, that in Holiday Special (1978) his voice sounded like in the sequels.
While I noticed the change already as a kid, I do not know the reason for it (nor haven’t tried to find one). But I’m pretty sure it has something to do with the post-prod.
I thought about this question and I have to say I can’t pick one. All I can say is that the Fromm story is my favorite and all four episodes equally good for different reasons. The prince story is my least favorite but still the episodes aren’t bad at all. Although I have to say that I’m not familiar with episodes 8-10 since I never had them on VHS. Having seen them only later in life at least 8 and 9 seem a little silly… 10 I don’t remember, nor Great Heep.

I wanted to see everything in chronological order - and in one place.
I’d love to see all available bloopers in chronological order. Would it be possible to cut only bloopers and share those? 😃 Complete chronological bloopers without any added cantina music etc. are something I’ve wanted to do if I only had the time, skills and access to everything. Even the compilation videos as they are would be great, I’d say it shouldn’t be too hard to edit them.
Let’s say The Mandalorian lasts 4 seasons. Who is going to subscribe to Disney+ solely because of The Mandalorian after that? If they want to get more money out of that show, the only way is to make it available on physical media. If they do that, do you really think they would lose subscriptions at that point with 37 new shows coming up already?
That’s the point though, they keep adding new content to keep it going, but let’s say someone hates the new show but still loves Mando: they’re more likely to keep D+ (especially if there’s one other thing they’re curious about it enjoy) if there’s nowhere else to get it.
Years after it’s finished? Unlikely, or just unwise.
People subscribed to Netflix for years and only watched The Office and Friends. It’s more common than you’d think… and the people who don’t want to rewatch the show won’t be buying the physical media anyway.
I think you’re just posting to disagree. I don’t see how they would lose money at that point at all.
