Lord of the Rings Trilogy - Extended Edition coming to Blu-Ray
Time

Dream on! That would have to be 4 layer BD and as far as I know, nothing like that is commercially available yet and probably won't be any time soon, because the current players couldn't play it.

Could be, haven't really followed the situation recently but if they're developing 1TB discs I thought maybe 100GB discs would start coming. But if the players won't play them then that sucks...

Explain Your Username / Avatar / Title / Signature
Time

Username: Comes from my middle name, extra X is just there since Lex was already in use here.

Avatar: Just threw there something, I like classic Star Wars and it's great art. I could change it something but haven't come up with anything cool.

Title: Classic SW again and I think it's a really cool and mythical concept. Also it describes me in many ways.

Signature: Again, threw something. Don't really care what reads there.

opinions on film restoration/preservation and how it applies to Star Wars - what do you think should/should not be allowed?
Time

This whole thread is becoming frustrating to read and I really don't see the point of it, it almost begins to look like trolling. Are you really saying you don't understand what preserving and restoring means? In that case, here you go:

Preserve: To keep in perfect or unaltered condition; maintain unchanged.

Restore: To bring back to an original condition

What I'm trying to say is that this is not subjective. I could see the point of this thread if you wouldn't mention both of those words and you'd be just asking if people would be alright if LFL only changes some effects and then debate about that. I understand that some people would be okay with some changes and that's an opinion and I can respect it. But it has nothing to do with preservation or restoration.

Anyone hate Return of the Jedi?
Time

I don't hate it either, but it seems that every time I watch it nowadays I seem to like it less and less. The Ewok part is just terrible, after Speeder Bike chase I'd really like to skip all Endor parts but I don't skip anything with any movie. Jabba part is only goofy fun, it's not great but at least it has something happening the whole time so you can sit through it. Of course the space battle and the throne room are the best parts in the movie. I still get chills everytime from Vader's "If you will not turn to the darkside, perhaps she will" hitting Luke's soft spot and the epic music starts. I think that's my favorite part in the whole trilogy even though the whole sister plot isn't very clever.

I don't think you should be interested in people's opinions if you're restoring (and by that, I mean doing it RIGHT) something to it's original state. Either you restore it or you don't. You can't always be like "it's more original but still not original, we'll just give you this to shut you up". You need to raise your standards to get anything. Otherwise LFL will be like "hey, they're demanding that OT again, let's make the LD masters anamorphic now so it's a little better and people will again be a little happier".

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

Hey, I just took this quick comparison between the 2004/2006 DVD release and the hero image currently on the Star Wars site. These look like different takes, so it may not matter; bonus/alternate scenes likely have never seen the Lowry beast.

Still, it's worth a look:

The first one is a photo for promotional use, not a screenshot. Haven't you seen it before??

Well, if there's Skywalker in OT and Skywalker in PT then you'd need to change the names, too...

Why?

Because it spoils the whole surprise anyway. I don't think anyone wouldn't think that Luke and that guy in PT aren't relative to each other once they hear "Skywalker".

Edit: and I couldn't care less if Skywalker is or isn't a popular name; if you have three movies with one Skywalker and three movies with another, it would be a bigger surprise that they aren't relative.

Yes but that only flags up the near certainty that Anakin Skywalker is Luke Skywalker's father not Darth Vader.

Good point.
