The thing is I don't want to replace anything as that would take away from the original context of the book. Since this is a preservation I believe the book images should be presented as they are. If anything the brightness, color balance etc, needs to be adjusted accordingly for each image.

I agree completely. That's why I didn't get the idea of taking some screenshots to replace the photos at all earlier. But please continue with the good work!

Ok to make this crystal clear to you. Alternate angles of certain scenes were used for some still frames in the book, and they do not appear in the film. I can also tell that each image is a full frame image, not cropped to a widescreen image.

I have included samples of the alternate angles scanned from the book. This should be a good indication for you.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking what you were talking about. Those aren't still frames from the films, but again, production photos. That could make things a lot easier. You could replace them with high res photos and make them look exactly like in the original if you'd want to. But those aren't even looking half that bad, I think they look fine. Much better than some DVD captures for sure...

Lexx,

I suppose I should clarify what I mean by image issues. I'll refer you to

Post 52 to see what I mean.

Cheers,

Adam

I don't get it. I meant about the film versions if there are problems with images that you'd want to replace or something. That work there was great and I've seen it already. I don't understand what you were trying to do with screenshots from DVDs etc.

This has led me to rethink this project and come up with yet another new approach to it. I'm thinking vintage looking. Since this is a nostalgic thing for me, why not recreate the feel of picking these up for the first time after they've been sitting in a box in the attic for 30 years.

The process is something like this; present a clean image overall intact with a few blemishes and natural age to it.

If I had the choice, I'd rather see high quality images than the vintage style approach. I know some people like that stuff look like they're worn and old etc. in images but I'd rather preserve it in highest possible quality. Just my humble opinion. :)

Would you happen to have an example from the book because I'm not entirely sure what you are talking about with the image problems?

Shame about that VHS. I too am used to the older video version of the credits, but I don't think anything videowise would use the original unaltered credits with wrong return tags since they weren't released or were quickly recalled and junked.

Sorry for this noob question, too, but what are the differences in title scenes and end credits? Is there a site with pics to compare?

Mark pesters Alec for details about his career, driving Alec to pay Mark to stop the pestering and go away.

Star Wars is released, followed eventually by TESB and ROTJ.

Many fans and gradual viewers alike grow up to associate Alec primarily/soley with Obi-Wan/Star Wars, deemphasizing all the other roles he's played in the decades preceeding the trilogy.

Is this, or is this not, an example of karmic justice? I leave that question up for you to decide.

Haha, good point. I think he just got grumpy like many old men do.

There are many stories about him being a little more elitist. Like when signing photographs with Dave Prowse, who always puts Dave Prowse is Darth Vader on them, Guinness puts a question mark there and has written Alec Guinness is Alec Guinness.

another thing I can't stand is the fact that many of the extras from the DVD release are not ported over.   why?   I say all DVD extras should be ported over.

Exactly. And sometimes when they bother to include a DVD with the extras and even those are always removed from releases outside the US. Pisses me off. I know it's the depression but jeez, throw us a bone here.

I'm putting up a new thread about the movie (or now, the new BD release) since some info was going to the audio thread. So it seems that Lowry screwed this one, too, even though the image quality is better. And no mono soundtrack.

Damn, it's getting hard to collect BDs from my favorite movies since there's about 50/50 chance they're screwing them up somehow. Seems to me that the more non-mainstream films are getting more truthful transfers.
