R.I.P Carrie Fisher
Time

I can’t name my favorite moments but she does have the best lines in SW. She gets rescued and then immediately takes charge.

I watched on YouTube when she was at CE II last summer and interviewed by Warwick Davis. She was asked lines from Star Wars and she had to know them. One was “There’s always a bigger fish.” and she was like “What, was that in Star Wars??”.
Then she and Warwick acted out her rescuing scene her lying on a couch and Warwick had a Stormtrooper helmet on. Warwick came to the rescue and waiting for her to say “Aren’t you a little short for a Stormtrooper” but instead she said “There’s always a bigger fish.” I laughed my ass off and Warwick probably did too inside his helmet.

I can’t believe she’s gone.

I mean. Like. What do you even say. I grew up with Carrie almost. She was as much a part of my life through Princess Leia as my real life friends and family were…

Same here. This came unexpected. So sad.

RIP Carrie. 😦

Edit: okay… forum makes sad smiley a happy smiley… Thanks.

I agree that R1’s soundtrack beats TFA’s. Only good theme was Rey’s theme in TFA, whatever marches were way too prequelish for me and not even close to the OT. And even Williams admits its similarity to PT, IIRC in some interview.

I mean, R1’s soundtrack doesn’t stand that much out either but it’s much more consistent. It would have been way better if the guy had more than 4 weeks to score it. But at least it doesn’t sound prequelish.

And I don’t necessarily mean OTish = good, PTish = bad, but they are very different and these try to tie in with the OT, not the PT. PT has a few good themes too, but they don’t have the same feeling. Nevertheless, IMHO Williams just isn’t as good as he once was, and I don’t mean anything bad with it, that’s just the way it is. R1 with 1980’s Williams score would have kicked ass.

Rogue One has earned the #3 spot on my list, right between ANH and TFA. This movie is making me think about what it would take to remove TESB and ANH from my 1 and 2 spots. The nostalgia factor definitely plays a role.

I’ve been thinking about it also that will anything ever top SW and TESB but I can’t even think a scenario where that could happen.

Recommendations for Legends (old EU) books, comics, etc.
Time

I’ve reag I, Jedi and while it’s being considered one of the best EU books, I don’t get that. I didn’t like it very much and it was way too close to the Jedi Academy books which I don’t like much, either.

I’ve read the Han Solo trilogy and while they’re passable, they’re not that great either.

I do like the Goodwin/Williamson comics and strips, those are the closest to OT as the comics can come. I also like the Thrawn trilogy but even that has some problems.

From games I wholeheartedly recommend KOTOR games (the 1st is better) and the X-Wing games and its sequels. X-Wing Alliance still holds up great! Not forgetting the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series, they’re great too but the graphics are dated a lot…

I’m very picky about my SW stuff and I don’t like the PT or references to it at all, so I’d say at least these are a safe bet. I haven’t read much in English so I don’t know about the X-Wing books etc. so can’t comment on all of them.

How do you guys feel seeing stuff on the trailers that aren’t in the film? I think it’s very misleading, I’ve been wondering a long time what all the snippets meant and was looking forward to the subway scene and many others. I mean seriously, like 95% of the dialogue and over half of the stuff shown in advance wasn’t in the movie.

I really hope the BD contains a lot of deleted footage.

It’s not misleading if that’s what was in the movie when they cut the trailer. Besides, I’d much rather have a trailer of things not in the movie that give me a flavor of what the movie is about than a trailer that’s just the best parts.

It is since you’re making to believe stuff happens in the movie that doesn’t. We all know the plot and yes, the trailer gives you an idea what’s it like, but like I said I think most of what we heard/saw wasn’t in the movie. Of course I understand the film making process but from a marketing point of view, you’ve been teased with stuff that isn’t there. I mean, I think it’s a great movie and I like being surprised and not shown best bits, but I did saw great bits that actually aren’t in the movie! They’re still showing deleted stuff in TV ads etc.

Kudos to them not spoiling any more surprises, cameos or funny lines in the trailers though.

If we could get a film with Rogue One’s brain and TFA’s heart, we’d have a perfect late period Star Wars movie. Here’s lookin’ at you, Rian.

This is really what it boils down to for me… This film does not treat the audience like some kind of thicko.

It respects it’s audience that it can actually think. Whilst it does have heart because you do feel for the characters when they pop their cloggs.

When Han died in TFA it was just oh ok they killed him bye Han… the way it was done I never felt anything.

In Rogue one I did feel something for the characters so Rogue One at least for me wins on both counts.

Although it would always be nice to get more character development Rogue One used it’s screen time ever so well, and you can’t fault it for achieving so much in such a small space of time with an ensemble cast I think.

Well said.

Even though I agree what joefavs said, you can read it like R1 didn’t have any heart. I think it had very much of it, too. The guys who made this had their hearts in the right place and I think it showed. Maybe it didn’t have as much heart as TFA but just the right amount, TFA went a little overboard at times. R1 didn’t toot its own horn nor did it need to.

  7. Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure

This was mine before R1. As I’ve only seen it once at it’s been just a few days I’ll have to digest it a little. It’s at least fourth but I won’t be putting it above ROTJ just yet… But I may have to. 😮

In what way I should watch a Star Wars Marathon?
Time

I just finished watching SW.

And I have to say… it felt so fantastically weird to see the opening crawl about rebels taking their first victory against the Empire, the same crawl I’ve been reading for 20 years, and now I was like “hey, I saw that victory yesterday!”. And then, after the two hours of action and what happened at the end of R1 the first half of SW had a very calming feeling after the battle instead of feeling like a slow start. Also the galaxy felt even more massive than before. Watching SW now didn’t feel like watching it for the first time but it did feel completely different than ever before. And only in a positive way, for me.

I’m glad to hear others on this forum enjoyed it as well!
About the cameos, I was very surprised at all of them except for the ones shown in the trailer. Only Dr. Evazan and Ponda Baba were almost a little too much but I still thought it was funny. Hey, they were wanted in 12 systems… Other than that, none of the cameos felt out of place. I mean, this probably happened like within a week or two before SW, it would have been more weird if the same people were nowhere to be seen. I also liked how Red 5 was bumbling around and then killed. I thought it was very cool to have the original leaders there although compared to everyone else they were a hell of a lot calmer.

I also enjoyed the film very much. More than TFA. It was a pretty slow start and I was thinking why should I be interested in this but after the rainy planet it really started pulling things together. Otherwise only things I didn’t like was the end with Vader and Leia, that battle felt so beneath Vader and Leia looked too fake. More than Tarkin, who blinked in one scene more than Cushing did the whole movie.

Star Wars: Rogue One - * Non Spoiler Discussion Thread *
Time

I haven’t watched any reviews or anything that has been posted in this thread the last week. I’m not sure if I’m going to read any reviews after it either, I’m almost tired of how everyone is being a critic these days and not sure why I or anyone else should be bothered about others’ opinion. I hope I like it and if I do, I don’t need anyone to tell me otherwise. If I don’t it would a bit disappointing since I have more hopes for this than TFA because I more or less know what kind of experience to expect but even then.
Anyways, less than 24h to go!
