General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread
Time

Yesterday I was wandering in the city and thought I’d go to an antique shop which specializes in pop antiques, americana, and all kinds of cool stuff - it’s probably the coolest shop I know but the prices are out there. Anyways, I went to see if they had anything new since I hadn’t been there for awhile. I stumbled on 35 mm film cases, there were probably only 20 of them. I thought “wouldn’t it be crazy if there was SW here… LOL” and skimmed them through. There was a couple from Telefon, a few with no titles, some 007 ripoff movie, and actually one from Close Encounters, and…

I almost jumped in the air and immediately asked who much the cases were. He made a call to the owner and SW was the most expensive of these, I made an offer and we made a deal. The guy said there were few others from SW but this was the last one, maybe they had all six? He didn’t seem to know any extra info on it, I might go back and ask the owner where they got these.

And yes, the case is empty. But still, this is probably my coolest find ever. There probably wasn’t many copies of the film floating around back then in my country, if there even was except this one. To think that this case contained the film when it first to came here is just cool. 😃

Help! KOTOR game
Time

Okay guys, I feel as if I’ve come full circle since I created this thread, because I just finished playing through KOTOR (haven’t started the second one yet), and you know, I think my friend was right that it stacks up against the OT. I actually really loved it.

Glad you liked it! It really is there up there with the best. I know there has been praises for KOTOR II and it’s still a good game, but the ending just comes out of nowhere (I think they ran out of time to finish it). Other than the disappointing ending I don’t even remember the basic plot line for it, it wasn’t as cohesive as the first one.

Star Wars Holiday Special Documentary

I just started a documentary on the “Star Wars Holiday Special” and was looking for Southern California fans (and non-fans) that were specifically upset about it, or have strong opinions about its existence.

Why they need to be specifically upset about it? I mean, it is what it is and it’s not great, but it was a product of it’s time and you can appreciate as what it is, even though it’s awful. It still has some great things like the cartoon and to see the whole cast and props etc.

Suicide Squad is the first movie I’ve ever considered walking out on. Not only was it terrible; but it was embarrassing to watch.

I hadn’t liked any DC movie since The Dark Knight.

Not Rises?

Rises didn’t feel like Batman. It had some good moments but at that point it got way too Nolan-y. It also has ridicilous plot holes and it didn’t bring anything new to the trilogy. I’ve only seen it 2 times compared to TDK which I’ve seen more than a dozen times.

Forgot about Suicide Squad. I didn’t even bother with it after first reviews came in.

Also, I don’t get how WW could be some kind of propaganda. To me that was one of the rare times the situation actually works. How can you avoid being labeled “feminist” if the movie is about a goddess who was brought up by Amazons? If she was a man and all the women were men, it wouldn’t be a problem then? Ugh. I do dislike the recent trend in recent movies with female action leads when you can feel it doesn’t work well. Even though I like Rogue One, you could replace Jyn with a guy and it wouldn’t matter one bit. That I hate. Wonder Woman is strong and smart and everything you’d wish her to be while still being all woman. If the movie was directed by a guy, I’m pretty sure it would’ve not work in these days.

The DC Extended Universe
Time

I didn’t find a thread for the DC movies so here goes.

I hadn’t liked any DC movie since The Dark Knight. I almost walked out from Man of Steel and I didn’t even go to see BvS until home video. It had a couple of great moments and I really liked Affleck as Batman which was a surprise for me. And of course it was great to see Wonder Woman for the first time which made me hopeful to see her movie.

Having seen it last week it has stuck on my mind since. To me it’s probably one of my favorite movies in the last 10 years. I don’t remember having so much fun and at the same time deeper thoughts about the humanity and everything she inspires us to be. Everybody who has seen it has enjoyed it immensely. It’s a really great movie and I’m waiting more for its BD release than the last two SW movies which feels a little weird but hey.

Anyways, cautiously looking forward for the Justice League movie, not sure about that. I hate universe building movies where you need to cram everything in it which is why it was so enjoyable to just watch her story in WW. Really looking forward for the possible WW2 and hopefully they get Patty Jenkins to direct it. Would be great if she’d direct some other DC films, at least Superman really needs to come out to the sunlight and become what he’s supposed to be and Jenkins seems to get it.

Awesome Star Wars art (pic heavy!!)

One can comment on “awesome” Star Wars art without agreeing it is awesome or posting any of one’s own.

Comments with only disliking with zero contribution + not believing in “awesome art” don’t make this thread for you, so hopefully that will be your last post in this thread. Thanks.
Comments are welcomed, people can give props, discuss the subject matter and they can also state if some things don’t belong here in their opinion especially if it’s continous. If you are here only to complain then please take a break from the forum and do something else.

Can x-wings fire their cannons with the wings closed? I know most of the video games back in the day wouldn’t work that way…

Otherwise that’s a cool picture.

Agree. I remember that as well but I also have some very faint memory of having seen them shooting like that…

He may not have worked on it, but Knoll was still at the party…

Right, but I was trying to think of people who were both involved with the OOT’s production and worked on the SE.

I misremembered what he said in a recent interview. He was just wisiting ILM as a teenager, not started working there. Before the interview I wouldn’t have made any connection with him and the OOT.

Maybe someday when something you worked hard on and received a lot of recognition for is just suddenly replaced by something else you’ll understand. I doubt much of that event was spent crapping on Lucas but nonetheless it is a bit bittersweet for them to all be gathered together for one event to celebrate SW40 when much of the work they did isn’t even in the film anymore.

(since I’m too lazy to check)

Were any of the alums who ended up going along with the alterations twenty years later present at this get-together? I’m talking about people like Muren (he’s actually the only one I can think of off the top of my head).

John Knoll and Ben Burtt at least.

Info: Deleted Scenes from Films that ended up in Other Films or TV shows Archive List

LexX sorry I have not added the married with children entry but I am not sure I understand completely. Are we talking about scenes possibly deleted from National Lampoons vacation?

The early seasons start with showing Chicago highways and you can spot the family wagon there. The scene(s) ARE from Vacation, but I’m not sure if all of them are or if the one where you can see their car is an unused shot from the movie or an actual shot from the movie. You’d need to watch them side by side… But not sure about the other Chicago scenes, there are more highway shots in the show and for example both feature the fountain but is the one from the show actually from the Vacation shoot, not sure…
