Star Wars Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time

I bought another Jedi Challenges AR set to try multiplayer. And… it doesn’t really work. Single player is still fun and exciting half a year later, but unfortunately it doesn’t work for 2. Since the blades aren’t real, the game makes all the decisions when to attack and defend and how. It was pretty unclear to even know what exactly to do, and I got hit even though I went down to the ground. It was a mess. I didn’t try the other fight mode, though, just dueling.

Hence the winky. You do know some movies have been natively shot in 3D?

That joke just hasn’t been funny ever, and I’ve seen you stating this before too so it’s just tiresome. And I do know, but it does not make them less a gimmick compared to sound or color.

And colorization of B&W white movies is a whole different thing, it’s up there with the SEs.

I wouldn’t say aspect ratios are gimmicks. They’re just ratios. That’s like saying a painting is better/worse because it’s wider. That’s just a standard and again, no-one is forcing anyone to use a ratio.

So are sound and color. 😉

No they’re not, unless you see in black and white or are deaf. People see colors and hear sounds outside cinema. Sure, we also see everything in 3D, but the 3D movies are artificially made to look like that from 2D and it’s all one big special effect, they’re not actual 3D holograms or live theatre. That’s just the lamest and oldest excuse if someone doesn’t like 3D that then there shouldn’t be sound either. 3D has tried 3 times in the 67 years and it has always failed, because it’s a gimmick and adds next to nothing to the story. Only Gravity has improved from it what I’ve seen, and many has agreed. But you’re right about that, that playing with colors is a gimmick. That’s why I hate how modern films look like, bunch of teal & orange with huge contrast and they change it every time you travel to another country in a film. That IS a gimmick.

I’m just wishing this whole 3D thing goes away so I can watch 2D versions on the big screen again. Aquaman was the first one ever to get a 2D release on the biggest 3D screen in a multiplex here. So I guess now is the turning point.

Edit: and just to make one more point, you can still film in B&W and without sound if you’d want to, and no-one is going to make you force to see them in color on the biggest screen or ask more money for it.

I just saw The Hidden Fortress for the first time last week. And I have to say, it had almost nothing to with SW. If people hadn’t been saying it from the beginning, I wouldn’t even have made the connection myself. Pretty much the only thing is bickering soldiers that resemble R2 and 3PO (which is an insult to the droids as these people are just immoral scum to the very end), and there is one scene that is almost exactly the same in SW than in THF. Other than that, I don’t see any other similarities other than some ideas like there being a general and a princess, but you can find similar architypes from many movies. The plot is completely different and so are the characters. Comparing it to SW took me out of the movie a bit since I kept waiting “is there going to be this and this scene next” and there never was.

I don’t think anyone is saying Lucas copied the plot, just the bickering peasants bit.

You can only write hidden fortress in Google and the first suggestion is star wars after that. Just saying that the relation is way too much advertised and takes off from the film itself.

I find your argument vague and unconvincing .And I actually said that I believe that SOME are production photos but not all . Again , where is the PROOF ?

All the images that are seen in your link at least are production photos. I know this because I have them. I cannot post every single image to show it to you, it’s your choice whether you want to believe me or not, but I’ve been collecting and doing research for over 10 years for these so it’s not like I don’t know what I’m saying. Until the 90s it’s very, very rare to see an actual film still used for SW in printed media. Since you’re the one wanting proof, I’d like to see you find me one printed image before 1997 that uses a film still and not a production photo and that is not from the DS battle, since those effect shots were used and there’s like 20 images of them.

But I don’t believe this is the thread to discuss any of this, so apologies. Let’s move on. 😃

^ I still do not buy your argument , care to share ? I could be off base but I feel you are implying that there was a still photographer present on set for every picture depicted in the storybook .I am more inclined to go with what Jonno said , I remember seeing some of those photo novels he talked about …they even did one for Battlestar Galactica . Here is a link to some info on that one …and a really cool website to boot …http://space1970.blogspot.com/2012/11/battlestar-galactica-1978-photostory.html and now that I think of it , how were the lobby cards made for the movies ? and ultimately , can’t the storybook photos still be used as a reference either way for colors ? They look great and could be a great guide for things like hue , value ,saturation and color temperature .But that may just be the artist in me talking …

Well, that’s how it was done, doesn’t matter to me if you believe it or not. 😃 They literally took thousands of production photos and many of them look like they were from the film, but they are not. All SW lobby cards used production photos.
