I loved the first season of The X-Files, I felt like I was the only person who had discovered it.
Got bored by all the mythology stuff in season 2 and 3 and stopped watching it by season 4.

I only have Season 1 on DVD, as it's like a self contained complete story.

Though I might give the series another chance, and watch the whole thing again

You did a very good job of making it seamless audio wise. I noticed how the music was edited slightly differently to the original film.
It was nice seeing the full Shadout Mapes scene and the death of Thufir reintegrated. I don't mind the lower quality footage of the deleted scenes. The introduction by Princess Irulan is a bit odd, she keeps fading in and out (reminded me of Holly from Red Dwarf). Though there was really no way round that

It is the full uncut torture scene, but utilises better footage from the shorter version when possible.

Hard at work on Once Upon a Time in the West these last couple of nights.

Got 80% of the english audio done, syncing the sound is proving time consuming.

I have plans to do a featurette of sorts highlighting the differences between the two versions, and show alternative footage that is in the shorter cut and not the Italian version. There are a few scenes where the footage is the same, but edited in a different order too.

I would love to have some feedback from anyone I sent discs to of my other restorations

I have a really bad two disc version from ebay.
Problem is whoever did it, used the official DVD release for some episodes. The original Ewoks theme tunes are replaced with new age hippy music !

I also have 6 official PAL VHS tapes from the 80s, which contain all but three of the episodes with the original 80s soundtracks.

I am embarrased to admit even owning all these....

I'm only guessing here, but seems that the book is derived from a slightly earlier version of the script. Before they changed the colours of the X-Wing call signs, Red Five/Blue Five etc.
It would be interesting to know how or if Lucas was involved with the novel.

I don't think ADF helped with the script, but didn't other uncredited writers jazz up the dialogue a bit?

What I did for one of my projects is use Subtitle Workshop to create a .srt file.
You can create the subs alongside a preview of the video file using this. (DVD Lab Pro doesn't let you do this easily and even admits this in the user guide).

Once you have the subtitles completed, you can import the srt file into DVD Lab Pro (or other DVD Authoring tools).
DVD Lab Pro lets you change the position, look, font etc of the subtitles. You have to compile the subtitles, which then creates bitmaps that display the subtitles. When compiling the dvd, it adds the compiled subtitles.

I'd like to do my own anamorphic version, now I know how to use AVISynth etc.
I'd like to add back the original PCM tracks from the Laserdiscs, and have the alternative mono mix on a second audio track of Star Wars.

Would restoring "Close the Blast Doors" & Threepio's tractor beam line to the PCM track be considered a fan edit?

I would leave the video totally alone, apart from converting to anamorphic and some sharpening.

I did think about this, have watched one of them with Zoom set on my widescreen TV and didn't look too bad. Takes up a lot of extra time and disc space converting 4:3 to 16:9 though, then having to recompress etc.
Think I might take the easier option for now

Had a sleepless night recently, and have done the bulk of my Fistful of Dynamite restoration:

Duck You Sucker (a.k.a. A Fistful of Dynamite)
- Uncut restored version ~ 151 minutes (includes horsefalls censored in the UK)
- Restores original mono soundtrack with missing dialogue reinstated and correct music cues
- Restores Juan's final two lines of dialogue from restored version "Johnny" and "What about me?"
- Uses correct music cue from the Italian version for final flashback and end credits
- Sorting the Versions extra
- Anamorphic 2.35:1 PAL
- Original English Mono Soundtrack
- Italian Stereo Soundtrack (Not the original soundtrack)

I will call it Duck You Sucker from here on, since Juan's final line is "What about me?" and the title "Duck You Sucker" appears. This is the closest translation of the Italian title Giu La Testa also.

I should have a PAL copy of Once Upon a Time in the West soon, the shorter english version that is. I had the NTSC version, and didn't relish syncing the dialogue to the Italian version which is PAL. I will be starting this project very shortly

Recently got my hands on the extended version of The Salute of the Jugger, a very underrated post-apocalyptic sci-fi flick.

Anyone interested in an even more extended version?

The shorter version called The Blood of Heroes in the US runs 90 minutes, has an extra scene that the longer version doesn’t have and ends on a more uplifting ending.
The longer version runs 104 minutes has many scene extensions, longer fight scenes, more character development and a more reflective ending. I much prefer this version.

The sources I have are two Australian DVDs, one of the shorter version (with the Jugger title) and one of the longer version.
I used to have The Blood of Heroes DVD from the US but the picture quality was terrible.

The shorter version has much better picture quality than the extended version so I plan to use the shorter version as the base and add back extended scenes from the other dvd.

Final specs:

4:3 Progressive PAL (I believe both discs are open-matte, so you don’t lose any picture information)
Dolby Stereo 2.0
Runtime: Approx 101 minutes (PAL runtime)

I need to add subtitles to The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. I originally ripped the subtitles from the original DVD using SubRip to create a srt file. Then I was using Subtitle Workshop to delete the ones I didn't want and add or amend other subtitles.

This was where some problems started to arise. I was syncing the subtitles to a mpg file (with sound) of my edit. Sometimes though when moving to a subtile by double-clicking on it, it would jump to the wrong location and mess up the times I was setting.
Having synced as best I could, I tried importing the srt file into DVD Lab Pro, and after compiling the DVD the subtitles were totally out of sync, and ones near the end of the film even more so.

Anyone have experience of using Subtitle Workshop in combination with DVD Lab Pro, or is there a better method of syncing subtitles?

I get Open GOP warnings when I open DVD Lab Pro if that means anything. It was edited using Womble, which was used to create the separate video and audio files for the DVD and the mpg I was using to sync the subtitles.

The only changes I can accept are:

Star Wars: the Biggs scene that was added back was cool. Some of the restored dialogue "Close the Blast Doors" and Threepio's tractor beam line.

Empire Strikes Back: No changes, was a perfect film to begin with.
The way the final scenes were hacked up to show Darth Vader arriving on the Super Star Destroyer were ridiculous. And losing "Good thing you don't taste very good" was just criminal

Return of the Jedi: No changes, but the film isn't perfect. Nothing in the special edition version was perfect either. Could do with some major re-editing/truncation during the Han Solo rescue from Jabba's Palace sequence. Actually prefer the uplifting yub-nub song to the new one.
