I to would think that if they were outside of a galaxy looking at a galaxy that the light from it would drown out any light from the other stars (Right or wrong? Im not a science major by any means) which is why the nebula idea gave me such a relief. And yes I know Star Wars doesnt have to go by reality but it is interesting nonetheless.

Actually, that's not true. Galaxies are surprisingly dull to the naked eye. And think about it this way, how can a neighbouring galaxy drown out the light of another galaxy that you're actually closer to (the one you're in)? If that really were a galaxy at that apparent distance, it would be much, much dimmer and hazy in appearance. I think we've all been spoiled by decades of ever-more beautiful astronomical photography which is so rarely true-colour or luminosity. The Sun is approximately 100 times further away than it is in diameter. Proportionally, the Andromeda Galaxy would have to recede tenfold from its current position, at which point it would be invisible to the naked eye. So that gives you a very (very) simple idea of how much feinter galaxies are in reality.

Yeah, unfortunately Harmy is probably right. The DVD of Caravan of Courage and Battle For Endor wasn't great quality; it was both movies squeezed onto one disc, and they were shot 1.33:1 so they would have to be significantly cropped, further reducing the image quality. Pity, though, anything to make the Ewoks more a believable ally would be great.

Maybe we can add a red shirt who actually does get spitroasted and eaten? :-)

If strange animal noises were added to sound mix the audience may be lead to believe there are all manner of unseen giant creatures which may pay off if someone did manage to get the AT-AT to stomp through the forest convincingly.

Really good idea.

You wouldn't even have to show anything. But so far we have this forest moon on which only Ewoks live, apparently. It's incredible, the lack of imagination that went into Jedi. There is no whimsical detail anywhere on Endor.

Idea in motion.

Back in some posts i ve said that id like to see vader be on something grander rather just walks like a pet in the corridors of the death star.

taking this shot from Flynn i can imagine replacing some interior to match with the death star ones and have vader meditating and then he leaves.

A nice pov IMO that shows some more bits of the exterior of the death star's dark side and brake the poor close sets with an opened one keeping the armored feeling.

That would be awesome. That pic looks like a dark Fortress of Solitude, which I guess for Vader it would be just that. Great idea, would love to see it with Death Star interior!

Maybe the original concept with the laser disc in the center of the equator (instead of right above it) could be used:

Hehe I remember the first time I saw Mimas in an astronomy book I couldn't get over how much the Death Star looked like it. I think the firing disc being on the equator for DSII would be great, not just for variation, but it would also look more like a dedicated weapon to me.

This entire debate puzzles me......it seems like the word "fiction" from "science fiction" no longer means anything. Who cares what it is.....its aesthetically pleasing and does not hinder or further the story in any way. I don't see why it needs to be labeled, or visually altered to make it easier to label

Exactly.

It can't really be their own galaxy that they are outside, as they are clearly still surrounded by stars in every direction. If it is a neighbouring galaxy, you wouldn't be able to see it nearly as brightly as that; galaxies to the naked eye are far less luminous than most people think. And not a single foreground star could belong to that galaxy. At such a distance there is absolutely no way you would be able to see an individual star in another galaxy. All foreground stars are in the native galaxy, not in the spiral arms of the neighbouring one.

I do think it was supposed to be a galaxy, but I don't care that it's scientifically inaccurate because it's irrelevant and looks great. If you have to pin it down to being "something" then a forming solar system is good enough, even though it looks like a galaxy.

I definitely agree that AOTC is the best of the prequel posters, it really did capture an epic quality that the movie fell short of. The ROTS poster was just ruined after Struzan turned in his work, although in his new book he says it was the Lucasfilm publicity people who did it, not him, and he really isn't happy with it. That poster smacked of tampering the minute it was released.

Well I don't want them to be identical, just stylistically similar. I think they match more now than before, and they're not finished yet. That lens flare does fade out, I'll have to do it more otherwise Photobucket just ruins it.

EyeShotFirst, I tried Mace there and it just didn't work. I'll have to try something else all together with him. Sticking Darth Maul in there also doesn't work because his facial pattern just doesn't blend with the otherwise soft montage of the poster. Lemme see what I can do hehe...

Cheers guys.

I did my own edit of TPM, even more extensive than this edit. I cut the entire thing and find it fits much better with my original idea of what should have happened.

Being serious for a sec, the OP mentioned keeping Palpatine mysterious and that too much was given away too quickly. But surely most people knew he becomes the Emperor already? Certainly anyone who'd watched and paid attention to the OT would have known that back in 1999.

I'm just curious, has there been any moment in the film that hasn't been argued about in this thread?

Hmm, that's a good question, I actually had to think a while about it. I don't recall anyone arguing about the part in the movie where Zev Senesca finds Han and Luke in the snow.

Yeah, you're right. What unnecessary alterations can we think of for this shot?

Actually, I say that, but sincerely I've never liked the shot of the speeder turning and flying over Han - I think it's the last shot before we wipe back to the base. The compositing is pretty bad, it's too contrasty I think, and there is no shadow when I think there would be one. Not a fan of that shot.

But the dialogue is good, and after all it's only a short service scene.

It's funny you mention Mace being at the bottom, I tried him in several places and he just did not fit. I know he's all alone there, but other places spoiled the composition a bit. It's hard to take someone else's original work and change it without totally ruining the balance - like the Lucasfilm publicity people did with Drew Struzan's original Episode III poster, putting that oversized Vader behind the painting. Ugh. But I had to change that horrible head dress that Padme was wearing for something more attractive.

They're not quite finished, but just about.

While we're talking about galaxies (TESB and otherwise), one interesting little statistic for you... If the Sun were one pixel on a jpg image, that jpg would have to be 25,000km wide to show the whole galaxy. Even at one pixel, the galaxy is still twice the diameter of the Earth. Jinkies!

I think the galaxy debate is exhausted anyway... if it were meant to be a galaxy it doesn't matter anyway as it's irrelevant to the plot. If you want to see it changed, cool, but it makes no difference either way.

That's a good point well made; a lot of movie viewers completely overlook that level of composition - like things are "just there". Of course some movies have a far greater amount of compositional thought put into them (let's not even mention Kubrick!), but your reading of it being a new star is a very nice thematic link.

Agreed. While it can't actually be a galaxy, who cares if it was meant to be? It looks nice and it is completely inconsequential to the plot, so it doesn't matter. I was just pointing out a few things about its visibility if it were a galaxy, but I'd still keep it as it is.
