STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

See, if we argue something long enough he gives us a new pic ;-)

Now, let's discuss new Cloud City mattes. :-)

Oh, asterisk8, you're quite mistaken about the ferry pic you posted. When I say "haze" I don't necessarily mean literal haze, like the air isn't clear. But if there is no change with distance, then you're saying the distinct blue tinting and contrast reduction seen on the mountain lines and trees suddenly stops before it reaches the ferry. It doesn't, it's just less obvious.

And it looks to me like in Ady's finished pic there is mostly definitely adjustment to the blacks in the distance, both the ships and the hangar entrance.

Yes this is a still image, but it's also a static shot, so that isn't going to make any difference. I understand how on a clear winter's day it won't necessarily be hazy, but you're talking real atmospherics. We're dealing with an image on a flat screen; sometimes you have to artificially create depth even if it's not conforming to real physics. But regardless, no matter what the weather, distance creates "haze" and lower contrast levels.

I appreciate that, but I don't think this idea is worth exploring because all it will do is further soften an already weak story in the prequels. The prequels have two story arcs, Anakin's fall and Palpatine's rise. To remove one leaves very little, and let's face it, they weren't good enough in the first place. But I think attempting this change is actually going to make them even weaker.

Besides, I still don't get why people have to watch them in Episode order. The assumption that they are supposed to be seen that way isn't well-founded as they weren't written that way. The prequels were written in the knowledge that virtually everyone knew Vader was Luke's father. Any attempt to rewrite them after the fact is just going to fall to pieces. It won't work.

Don't get me wrong, I totally applaud radical revisions if it is going to improve something; I just think this idea will achieve the opposite.

A background element should never have better focus than the foreground.

You can find many, many examples in cinema where the background is in focus while the foreground is not, or the background is equally in focus as the foreground. It has to do with depth of field and focal length...

I think it's clear what Darth Lars was getting at. That shot doesn't work yet because the transports don't look like they're in the background. Yes, we know they are, but they don't look it. It needs either haze or blur or some of both. Obviously there are shots where the foreground is out of focus and we're look at the background, or the depth of field is crushed, or you can have both equally in focus - in fact a split dioptre was a great way of drawing your attention to both at the same time - but I know what Darth Lars was meaning in relation to this shot.

Vader: "So, you have accepted the truth."

Luke: "I have accepted that you were once Anakin Skywalker, my father."

I'm all for big ideas, but the notion of removing the whole Anakin-becomes-Vader story is pretty stupid. As deeply flawed as the prequels are, Anakin becoming Vader isn't it.

Say you manage to remove that story arc... then what the hell is the trilogy about? Why so much focus on Anakin Skywalker. And considering the prequels alone aren't the problem here, as Jedi clearly confirms it and also plays on the conflict between father and son.

Jesus. If you dont have the integrity to stand by your suggestions, you shouldn't post them in the first place.

Indeed.

Ghostbusters, try to bear in mind just how much effort Ady is putting into this, during a year that's been pretty damn rough on him. While we can all enjoy what he does, remember that he owes us nothing and doesn't have to reassure you about the Wampa or anything else. There's absolutely nothing wrong with constructive criticism but you were just rude.

Anyway.

It's a sad day indeed to see Kersh leave this mortal realm. I just hope i can do his film justice.

Sure you will.

Even just the color correction is restoring it closer to Kershner's version!

That's so true. Just colour correction alone makes a massive difference, as well as Ady's other enhancements.

Wow, shoot me for saying it, but can't people wait till Ady releases the finished movie before they start dissecting it. It's a bit unfair to start picking at it when you're not viewing it as a whole.

To Angel's point about cleaning up the officer's holograms so they look cleaner - aren't they distorted because of the asteroid field? And Vader has them move the Executor clear of the field so he can get a clear signal to the Emperor. I like the distortion on the officers, it works exactly how it's supposed to.

Just some thoughts...

I liked that he removed the yellow/green color from the panel room when piet informs vader.

Palpatine's clarity and the quality of the hologram is top notch.

I see he replaced again the top section of the background when we see palpatine's face from front.

There is too much interference and shaking in the holo.

Quality noise in between frames that shows the noise/tremble effect.

Behind palpatine the background looks too static. There was a little light that were blinking in the dark rentagle in the wall.

The audio is temp but still i judge what i saw. The lip sync was poor.

Vader's close up after a while was reversed footage.

I like but i dont if its correct that the lines in the side view to be angled and even the holo animation lines follow that. i like the aggresive look still it might be an artistic choice.

The glow in the emperor's side view was too clean. was begging for some grain
The changes between the clean and the distorted signal are way too fast. if they could be slightly slowed down it would be ideal.

Some interesting points there. So is the clip the finished thing or a work in progress? Without seeing it, those of us too poor to donate right now can't see how it looks. I know Ady said the audio isn't final yet, but how about the visual side of things? Thanks.

I understand your problem with the Emperor, but in other movies, regardless of what else an actor is doing, they aren't blinking, not even in close-ups when you can't see other body language. Of course, they're not still, but the Emperor being made to blink wouldn't look right.

Adywan:

Actually the Emperor hardly blinks at all in Jedi. For example, look at the scene where the Emperor is goading Luke while he watches the battle, then snaps and uses his sabre. Throughout the whole speech he doesn't blink once. The same thing in other scenes

Ady, clearly some folk don't pay attention to movies very much. Most actors hardly EVER blink on screen when they're delivering lines, unless it's deliberately done to convey an emotion or thought.

Pick any movie with decent actors in it and watch how little you see them blink, and watch someone without them knowing and see the difference.

The eyes may be static, but the lack of blinking isn't the reason.

Anyway, I hope you can speed through EP V in order to tackle the bigger problems with EP VI.

Ady must double his efforts, goatmonger is not as forgiving as the rest of us are.

Hey, that wasn't a negative comment, please don't mischaracterize it as such.

Hehe no, like Ady said, I was just quoting Vader from Jedi. You'll have to be sharper on your quotes around here ;-) Welcome!

That's interesting. What was the boarding craft to be used for in ANH?

Well the stormtroopers had to get into the Tantive IV somehow.

So they all went two at a time in this thing?

LOL. I think it's pretty obvious that the Tantive was brought into the Star Destroyer's landing area and boarded via a platform or bridge of some sort.
