thought I would share my stupid comment here…

The 2004 DVDs are what gave birth to the DELIBERATE CREATIVE DECISION meme. Lucasfilm tried to claim that all the fuck-ups were deliberate creative decisions, which in some ways just made it worse.
which goes hand in hand with all the things we love about about the OOT, but were said to be mistakes or otherwise unintended, according to GL.
Well if I’m not mistaken, part of the reason it took 15 years was gathering funds, developing tools, and finding prints/arranging for them to be scanned.
And doing it for the most part all by himself. If he would be given a team, things might move a lot quicker.
Excuse me if I’m missing something, but since no one who “owns” a print of Star Wars actually legally “owns” it (since they all belong to Fox/Disney), why exactly is the person who loaned the Technicolor scan upset? I can understand if he or she is worroed because a scan of that print could be traced back and thus face legal repercussions from Fox/Disney. But if it’s something other than that…well, frankly: what right does that person have to keep such a thing to him or herself when none of what we’re talking about here is strictly “legal”?
As far as I understand (from what I’ve read on the forum), someone paid (I assume quite a fair amount of money, since scanning prints isn’t cheap) to have that print scanned. And then someone else gave those scans away, without that person’s (the guy who had it scanned) permission.
That’s not proper conduct. legal or not.
The new scan should be cleaner, sharper and smear free
Sounds good to me 😉
But as I understand, it still needs to go through scratch & dirt removal and CC?
I can understand not wanting to go through all that again for every frame as you guys just went through all that for the SSE
Poita’s scan of the LPP.
a scan of the whole movie or just for replacement parts?
The whole movie.
wow.
and are there plans for creating a release from that scan or will it just be used for replacement parts?

I want to be able to end the pitch with a mic drop, basically.
So until then, let’s keep this thing to ourselves, shall we?
They’ve updated their statement on their website: http://www.thestarwarstrilogy.com/starwars/post/2016/02/19/Team-Negative1-has-disbanded
Your best option is Usenet. The newsgroup is a.b.starwars and the password is negative1
Your download speed will be full strength unlike the slowness of a torrent. I had a solid 23mps and got it in a few hours. The restoration is remarkable and it was so hypnotic to watch something unaltered by Lucas’ psycho additions. This group is without a doubt, Extraordinary.*was

well, that escalated quickly…
sorry.
Man, this is very depressing. First Poita and now this…
If my suspicions are correct, expect an official announcement soon to cheer you up and make you forget all about Team Negative1.
god i hope you’re right.
This makes no sense. It’s not as if all this time nobody knew that the scanning of prints isn’t exactly legal. I can hardly imagine that being the single reason for them being banned suddenly.
The whole “piracy” thing sounds moot too. They’ve been pretty strict about not posting any torrent or other download links.

I’m having a hard time finding solid download links. Anyone got an open copy on Drive? I’m on Android so a simple MP4 would be great.
ever heard of google?
I wonder IF Disney ever decides to release the OOT, whether they’ll also decide keep the Fox fanfare or not.
I know it’s minor, but to me that’s just such an essential part of the whole Star Wars experience.
As far as the highlights of the Blu-ray, there is almost no clipping in any shot if you look at the raw data in the file, it’s just that it’s severely clipped when it’s played. I can’t believe that it’s intentional, which means they just screwed up the encoding of the Blu-ray. I’ve been able to recover these highlights for Despecialized v3.0.
Take a look at the specular highlights on R2D2: they’re pretty much clipped in both images, but the transition from light to clipped is much smoother on the Tech image, which results in something much more pleasing to the eye.
The clipping on the bluray image looks much harsher, because the rest of the image is darker. It’s as if they completely screwed up the natural curve of the film.
it’s funny how they made the bluray look NOT like film. It looks underexposed and the highlights get clipped very harshly. Almost like what you would expect from a cheap digital pocket camera.
As far as my knowledge goes, part of what makes film look like film is that it has a very gradual roll-off near the highlights, like what you see in the Tech and NOT in the bluray
The Tech almost seems to have more latitude in its dynamic range than the bluray.
BTW any chance of getting the 35mm audio as well in the foreseeable future? I loved the way it sounded on TN1’s ESB grindhouse. A bit raw, dirty and distorted, like the film itself. 😉
WOW! that’s in another league altogether!
Holy shwoop, how the hell did this release pass me by so completely unnoticed?
I already saw the despecialized version but I know what I’m gonna watch tonight!
Thanks to Harmy and everyone involved! You guys are GODS.

Wow. I totally DID miss something! Thanks!
ROTJ Grindhouse
wait, did I miss something? or did you mean Harmy’s despecialized ROTJ?
I’m completely new to this, but I saw that one could use Dr.Dre’s cc tool to create a lut for use in Adobe AE, so I’m probably going to be using that.
I want to do a color correction on a blu ray that I’ve ripped onto my HDD.
what’s the best format to export it to so that i can work on it?
Exporting as raw video would result in one HUGE video file so I doubt that would be workable.
Export as all single frames? Group them in folders scene by scene, shot by shot?
How does one do these things? Thanks in advance.
Cheers, Lasz
Well, i ripped my FOTR extended edition Blu Ray and DVD’s on my HDD.
I was thinking maybe i could downscale the Blu Ray to the DVD’s resolution, use Dre’s tool to correct the downscaled Blu Ray to the DVD colors and then use the generated profiles ultimately to correct the Blu Ray.
My guess is that I’ll probably have to export every single frame of both Blu Ray and DVD first.
