Was the FULL Biggs/Luke Yavin 4 scene in the 77 TE?
Time
Talking about error... ever noticed in the Jabba szene, when Jabba and Han are walking next to each another along the Falcon, they had to retouch some portion of the background (the "rim" on the falcon) that got covered by Jabba's original performer, and that part of the image wobbles around, changes perspective in a very odd way, and then snaps back to normal. But I guess I couldn't have done it any better.

ITS HAPPENED-- OOT AVAILABLE FROM LUCASFILM
Time
Just wondering: There have to be digitally cleaned up versions of the films, that they've used to insert the "Special Edition"-additions into, right? I mean, if I remember correctly there was a scene in the SE-promo stuff that showed a before/after comparison of Vader and one of the Admirals in the Tantive's corridor, to boast with the "newly restored image quality". So, adding new visual effects and restoring the image quality AFTERWARDS is pointless, so they have to have restored versions of the films without the SE-additions. If those are the transfers we'll get on the new DVDs, that would be perfect, right?

What exactly did LowryDigital do to the material? Did they just scan in the SEs AGAIN, and restored those AGAIN...?

How Star Wars names are translated in non-english countries...
Time
Regarding C-3P0's name, I guess that at least the German translation gets it a little bit wrong... of course it was just translated: three-pee-oh -> drei-pe-oh (being pronounced somewhat like dry-pay-oh). Anyway, the O in the original name is actually the Number 0, but of course it's not spoken as "zero", but as "O". So basically the correct translation would've been "Drei-Pe-Null"... which would've sounded just as stupid as "three-pee-zero".

Mmh... I don't really know what I was going for. But I've gotta admit, the german-translation (and the vioce-casting) of the OT is absolutely top notch.

If it helps here's the poster in 2362 x 1801. I couldn't find the DVD cover itself...

Oh, those DVD-covers were made by me, although I didn't took the effort to make English versions of them yet (since I've made them in German, originally)

Info: Where do you draw the line?
Time
Regarding "Blade Runner" as the specific example, I was interested in the HD version of it. I got a HD-TV recently, so I started with HDTV-trailers and it really got me fixed for the high resolution. There aren't any HDTV-stations available here in Germany (with the exception of one station broadcasting a handful of movies a year in HD parallely to their SD content). So I looked around the web, and of course there are sources to get HD-content from. So I did. I don't call it piracy, since it's stuff I already own on DVD. And since I am a bonus-material-addict, an HDTV-capture simply wouldn't be a replacement for a retail DVD for me.

And I guess that "This forum is for material not available to the general public because it has never been released or it's no longer available for sale." does apply to HDTV-captures EXCEPT for the few WMV-HD-releases out there.

Glad somebody shares my view. It's too early to launch another home video format. DVD only became very popular a few years ago. Only the real hardcore fans will buy new equipment and new versions of the same movies. It killed of Betamax and Laserdisc and it'll probably kill off these as well.

I AM adopting HD, but not yet BluRay. It will be years until I get myself new hardware and buy HD-movies on BluRay... but there are already hundreds of HDTV-recordings of several movies out there on the UseNet, and I am focussing on those right now. It is a big leap forward, so why shy away from it completely? I don't see HD as a replacement to DVD yet. The perfect DVD-set (and I'd like to say that Jackson's "Lord of the Rings"-SEEs fit this term) is still much more valuable to me than higher resolution... although there are several movies out there I'd like to have in HD... like digital movies (Pixar, Dreamworks... I am an graphics guy after all), huge epics (Ben Hur, Lord of the Rings, Gladiator), Classics (Star Wars 4 - 6, Indiana Jones), VFX-heavy movies (like the Prequels) or movies with an awesome production design (the Harry Potter movies, Star Trek, Terminator, Alien)... so, basically movies that - when presented in HD, simple "show more". There would be no reason for me to watch "Clerks", "Chasing Amy", "Mallrats" or "Dogma" in HD, since these aren't visually impressive movies (ok, "Dogma" and "Jay & Bob" are Kevin's better looking ones, but still).

Just to let you know: There isn't a format named "1028-HD". First of all the resolution of the "small HD" is 1280 x 720... and since video-resolutions are referred to by their vertical resolution AND the frame-technique used (p = progressive, i = interlaced), the correct term would be "720p-HD". But I guess we would like to have the movies in the "big HD"-res, which would be 1920 x 1080... so actually we'd like to have it in "1080p-HD", I guess.

Sorry for being a wise-ass

***The ADigitalMan non-Star Wars DVD Info and Feedback Thread***

But it's sad that these are the only cut snippets that are featured on the DVD... I still don't understand why they don't shoot the Potter movies with an "Extended Edition" for the DVD-release in mind, with more stuff added compared to the theatrical versions. I guess they're still regarded as childrens' movies... which is a shame. There aren't even any decent Potter artbooks (for the movies) out there... which I would love!

Green screen, CGI and the 'Minute' documentary from ROTS
Time
Great topic, and I'm absolutely agreeing with everybody stating the overuse of CGI in the prequel trilogy.

There are a few examples which REALLY make me scratch my head... for example, why didn't they build a single clone-trooper costume? They were all digital, but why?? Even in the scenes where they aren't wearing helmets, they've just tracked Temuera Morrison's head onto a digital clone-trooper body (horribly, by the way) or used an all digital head (even more horrible), which makes absolutely no sense, and is another huge waste of resources.

Or just take Padme falling out of the transporter onto the sand dune (in AOTC)... they've created digital sand and digital footprints in the sand... uhm... again... WHY?? Would it have been so expensive or logistically difficult to put a truckload of real sand onto the set? And again, in this scene Portman had to act with an all digital clone-trooper...

And if I remember correctly it wasn't Neeson alone complaining, it was McGregor as well... acting in front of nothing, towards nothing... I bet he's glad the trilogy is done.

Idea: sharing the Isolated Music Tracks
Time
@MoveAlong:

I have finally managed to subscribe to a usenet-account, and downloading from a.b.starwars works like a charm... so thanks for upping the isolated tracks.

@Tim:

Both AOTC and ROTS used some of TPM's music, so maybe it is possible to reconstruct it. Furthermore I've got a rip from the AOTC-soundtrack taken from the rear channels of the DVD. It is called "Ultimate Edition", but of course it's not official and contains SFX in some parts. But maybe it's good enough to fill in the missing bits.

DVD-menus... the Van Ling way!
Time
For you you haven't seen it, VFXblogs has posted several clips which go "behind the scenes" of several DVD menus created by the infamous Van Ling. He created the animated menus for DVD-sets like "The Abyss", "Terminator 2", "Independence Day" and of course all of the "Star Wars"-DVDs. So, if you feel up to the task, you could do it yourself for your favourite preservation project!

(Some of the clips found on the XFXblogs site can be found at the ElectricImage page as well, at better quality.)

Note that The Official Site is also offering various "Making of the menus"-clips, but they're only available to hyperspace-members (which I'm not), so I don't know if the clips there are any different. Maybe someone might check them out and share them with us.

Info & Offer: Dear Santa...
Time
I am actually looking for two things:

Moth3r's "Return of the Jedi"-disc, and ADigitalMan's edits of the Prequel-Trilogy ("A Vergence in the Force", "Path to the Dark Side" and "Revenge of the Sith"). It would be great if someone could send me those... I'll definitely send something in return. It would be best if someone located in Europe could send me those discs, since I am from Germany.
