Sounds great... I'll suggest a 720p MKV as an easier to share alternative :-)

In what format are you planning on sharing these?
I believe it when I see it... and I want to believe :-)
Is it possible, that these are simply unfinished? Maybe it's a leak of some preliminary version?

I don't like people bashing Lowry digital. They do nothing wrong. Even though I hated what I saw on the colours of some of the Bond movies, like all their work, the people who make the final decision are the filmakers etc, not Lowry. They are the ones who rubber stamp and say "i'm happy with that".
To be fair, the color correction for SW was done at ILM, not Lowry. And they did a marvellous job of cleaning it up.
I start to imagine if I would speak up, if I was the guy doing the color correction... "Uhm, George, we're losing detail in the darks." - "Just do as I tell you." - "You do realize that could be called a 'flaw', right?" - "No, I'm a perfectionist, there are no flaws in my movies anymore, it's a creative decision!" - "Well, my job is to do a great color timing, and that excludes crushing the blacks. I quit!" :D
BTW, doesn't "crushing the blacks" sound extremely racist? I guess I won't use that for a while...
Wasn't someone in this thread in contact with one of the guys who did the color-correction? We should congratulate him on crushing the blacks... if that wasn't the case, you could give it almost any color-timing you want... only now you can't restore the detail in the darks...
I'd say it was rather stupid doing the color correction BEFORE having Lowry clean up and restore the image. If they did it the other way around, they could always go back to the original color (on the cleaned-up master), and make a new color-correction from there. Now, once they want to change the color-timing considerably (and most importantly fix the crushed blacks), Lowry would have to re-do their clean-up as well, I guess.
Short-sighted and incompetent...
Still, Endor has that pinkish hue to its clouds... :(
I've made an image comparison between the shots from that Star Wars Blu-ray Up Close at LucasFilm: Part 3 of 3 and the HDTV-broadcast, and guess what? Nothing has changed, except for a little more brightness (and even that done so badly, the black bars aren't black anymore, but dark grey). For a better comparison I've also brightened up the HDTV-shots, and they look almost the same after that:
TESB 1: Blu-ray (?) / HDTV / HDTV (levels changed by me)
TESB 2: Blu-ray (?) / HDTV / HDTV (levels changed by me)
TESB 3: Blu-ray (?) / HDTV / HDTV (levels changed by me)
ROTJ 1: Blu-ray (?) / HDTV / HDTV (levels changed by me)
ROTJ 2: Blu-ray (?) / HDTV / HDTV (levels changed by me)
ROTJ 3: Blu-ray (?) / HDTV / HDTV (levels changed by me)
ROTJ 4: Blu-ray (?) / HDTV / HDTV (levels changed by me)
Just open them in different browser tabs and compare.
The article specifically mentions that Lucasfilm wants them to be called "HD Stills"... not "Blu-ray Screenshots" or anything, so maybe they're still not finished doing the color corrections? On the other hand it's pretty stupid to promote a Blu-ray with stills that don't represent the product...

Like I keep saying, if the OUT was as available (and perhaps we should start including the PUT into the equation as an increasing number of PT fans start to get as miffed) as these new versions I wouldn't have a problem with a special edition every year.
Remember my "Blu, Not Blue!" slogan? How 'bout this new one...
"PUT it OUT, LFL!"
:p
So obviously we want the DUH! (Darn Unaltered Hexalogy!)

and don't even get me started on some of the PM's I have been getting, all I can say is unbelievable, where were all you guys that want to donate blanks now, back when I was needing\accepting them LOL.
Outing myself as one of those people sending one of these unbelievable offers to donate blanks, I must day: sorry for the offer! I guess... :p
I've been out of the loop at OT.com for a few years now, getting back in the last couple of days, so I'm again sorry that I'm late to the party. I didn't mean to upset you by wanting to contribute in SOME way (since I'm late, unfortunately I didn't have a chance for any other contributions)... but there's no need to get cranky about it ;)
You created a marvellous set, so you shouldn't be suprised people are all over it. I understand that it was a huge amount of work, and having total strangers asking you to do some more work (like uploading, burning discs or whatever) after that kind of achievement is surely irritating and doesn't feel like your effort is appreciated. Let me tell you, it is!

Wow, I am surprised. I don't think I could ever buy a pan/scan film for that kind of dough unless that was the original aspect ratio.
The original aspect ratio of a film can't ever be "pan/scan", because the term doesn't describe an aspect ratio. Instead - as the name suggests - it's the process of panning (and scanning) around in a frame of a wider aspect ratio, to keep an "optimal" framing in a frame with a narrower aspect ratio.
Technically the opposite (for example panning up/down in a 4:3 image, to keep a 16:9 ratio) would be pan/scan as well, as would any "smaller framing" panning around in a "larger frame". Usually though it's the thing above :D
Sorry for wiseassing ;)
Damn... I thought I'm always right!
My worldview crumbles :(
To be fair though, it seems to be a bug on the site...
The correct technical term, by the way, is Gli-Glitch...

If you are interested in one of the stills you can always replace the original 600px in the path with 1000px:
Or you can just click on the zoom button ;)
And I'm not saying they are...

The videos all do originate from moments.starwars.com: all I did was find out the real source of each flash movie and posted it
I can't find anything there that says these are from the Blu set.
Well, at least I can definitely confirm the German version of the site has the new audio mixes made for the Blu-rays with those clips. Ever since the OT's THX-makeover, the German audio tracks were screwed up by some wrong filter settings... now with the mixes being re-done, the German voices sound stunningly crisp. So the audio is definitely Blu-ray sourced - why wouldn't the picture be too?

...that the 04 is in fact a 2K scan directly from the 97SE o-neg restoration...
Oh it was restored at 2K? That's good news. I thought Lucas had limited it to 1080p like Episode II and III.
2K (usually 2048 × 1556) isn't THAT much more than 1080p (which is 1920x1080). 4K would've been much more sensible...
Edit: Strangely The History of Star Wars quotes sources that say it was only scanned at 1080p.
Do you guys think it's possible that Lowry re-did their color-correction for this? After all I'd assume they have the unaltered files in their archives, and a non-destructive filter chain for at least some of their "corrections"...
Looking great :) Can't wait for a moving version!

If someone would be kind enough to throw me a spare MySpleen invite I would be pleased as punch for the chance to finally have some proper Star Wars to watch.
PM sent.
No problem at all ;)
I hope your set gets shared sooner or later, but for now I'll try to get your DVD versions as a start.
Actually I would be happy enough if the German track was included AT ALL, so no need to add it to the menu (and just be selectable via the audio button on the remote). Of course, adding menu entries, separate German Greedo/Jabba-subtitles or even multi-angle crawls would be the icing on the cake.
I've authored quite a lot of DVDs (albeit no multi-angle yet), but I haven't dipped my toes into Blu-ray authoring (or Java-scripting, which is used for Blu-ray menus, as I understand it). Otherwise I would just give it a shot myself. Of course dark_jedi's Blu-ray set would be the perfect starting point for adding anything more.
@dark_jedi:
That Blu-ray set appears to be really awesome, I'd love to get my hands on it :)
Do you think it would be at all possible to add German language tracks to the set, if I provide you with the German GOUT-tracks? Or is that too much hassle (or not even interesting enough)?
