Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

Hey Harmy,

I really love your Despecializations! Since I'm German I want to create versions with the German crawls and German subs for Greedo and Jabba. Are there HDTV-versions of the subtitled scenes, but without the subs? Or did the subtitles look like that in the HD broadcasts? I'd like to re-create the German subs as they look in the US version, but I'd need clean versions of those scenes for that...

The next hurdle will be multi-angle / seamless branching or some other trick to allow choosing between the English and the German crawls and subs (and Adobe Encore, which I'm using, doesn't support either feature). Well, at least the subs COULD be realized through actual Blu-ray subtitles... but for that, again, I need clean versions of those scenes.

Otherwise the new Blu-rays might provide the solutions...

Thorr's 35 mm Star Wars Trilogy SE Trailer WQHD Restoration (Part-Finished)
Time

In fact there is a term for the resolution you're using, and that's WQHD (Wide Quad High Definition) at a res of 2560 x 1440 (or in your case 1090, depending on the aspect ratio). Ultra High Defnition would be 7680 x 4320 (or 4320p), basically four times the height and width of regular HD (and 16x the resolution).

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

I gotta admit, the grainless versions look sharp as shit. But they just lack texture... that certain something. I dunno.

It's only so sharp BECAUSE all the detail got stripped out. Besides texture that "detail" was in fact fuzziness around softer edges. And those filters basically pinch those fuzzy edges together into sharp contours, while removing the detail in that process. Also the noise removal removed details that weren't film grain. Its not desirable at all!

Well, I was hoping the thread wouldn't die, before having him show those clips he promised. It would've been interesting to see what he would have uploaded!

Still, as poor as his whole show was, I was never 100% sure he was lying... ridiculously big ego? Yeah... but I'm not familiar enough with what Laserdisc-players can do to be absolutely sure about that aspect.

LOL. I love that, as a celebrity, he's actually acting out his opinion, being melodramatic as in his movies. Where did he post that?

The clip is from his TV-show "Spaced"... and it's already from 1999/2000.

The reason he burns his stuff in the show is Episode I :)

Yeah, I'm now definitely decided to stick with the broadcasts as sources. The difference is so small, that it would be practically imperceptible in motion and I do not want to buy those Blu-Rays.

With all the new additions to the blu-rays, I gather it would make it quite a bit harder for you to use them as a source anyhow- just more stuff that you have to remove or replace with alternate footage.

Qualitywise they'd still be a good source for edits, as you could just patch up the new changes with the HDTV broadcast to get the sharpest source possible. Of course the contrasts will still be unfixable.

'Legacy' by X0-1138 - a fake and trolling 'project'
Time

Interesting how quickly this thread turned into a trainwreck.

And it still seems to be unclear, if the project is still on, canceled, or just some overambitious hoax...

Although I don't endorse dark_jedi's tone (come on, "LOL"? Really?), I agree that X0-1138 does make some ridiculous promises, which make the whole project appear like nothing more than hot air (or megalomania). Be my guest to prove me wrong :)

Still, I'd suggest you'll leave the bigger plans for later, and just start with the first step of doing some nice transfers.
