How do others see the originaltrilogy.com community?

Man, you have to dig that at one point, that Rob kid says - and he means it seriously - that we raped his Google because people searching the internet for Star Wars  inevitably end up seeing what a liar Lucas has been all these years because we won't quit calling him out for it.

That is fucking comedy gold, man.  Gold!

While it's sad to see posts like that, I've come to terms with it: The internet gives everyone a voice... no matter how stupid.

The upside though is, that you appreciate forums like OT.com even more. I mean there are tons of civilized discussions on here... and it's not just because our collective love for Star Wars, but because Star Wars reaches back to people who are actually grown ups ;) To be fair though, I've read great posts by people in their 'teens on here as well, so it's probably just a good environment.

May just have to get a BD burner for this, though logistically this may be hard (no more SATA ports, and don't wanna get rid of my HD-DVD/BD combo drive). could get another controller but I suspect that'll drive me nuts, and not enough money atm to build a new desktop altogether - esp with NY Comic Con coming up

How about THIS? I've converted the MKV to a Blu-ray via tsMuxeR without too much hassle and even got myself some fancy icons for my PS3's XMB using THIS little trick.

Ok, here are a few screenshots comparing the quality of both BD/MKV and AVCHD to the Lossless Source.

The AVCHD looks really great... do you think that quality could be achieved if I re-encode the MKV video to 15000kbps again?

Generally I don't recommend doing such a thing and honestly I can't see why you want to. Output quality will largely depend on the encoding settings as will speed. I guess you could achieve the AVCHD quality or even better in such a scenario if you used optimal, but also very slow settings which are carefully adjusted.

I want to do it because I'd like to add a German crawl and German Greedo subs. Logistically it'll be a bit complicated getting the lossless video files from Harmy to me. If re-encoding the MKV proves to be a viable option, I'd definitely go that route.

If you don't want to wait for the official Bluray to be released or don't need lossless audio and menus, you can as well get the mkv version right away and simply create a BD out of it using TsMuxer.

Sounds good, but I didn't get it to work... when I put the MKV in tsMuxeR GUI to create a "Blu-ray disk" (per selection), I get an error code -2 "Matroska parse error: Invalid EBML number size 2 at pos 273027604"... any help?

It happens right at 1.4% progress, after the audio tracks are "decoded" as per the output window, and right when it says "B-pyramid level 1 detected. Shift DTS to 2 frames"

I've already muxed the corrected German and Spanish audio tracks into the MKV... could that be the cause?

Edit: Got it working now... Looks like ffdshow was the problem. I set its h.264 decoder to "deactivated" and now tsMuxeR seems to work. Veeeery slooowly though... I would've thought, since the video doesn't need to be re-transcoded, this would be relatively fast. But judging by the current percentage, this'll take over an hour.

Preserving "French" Original Trilogy - ANH V1.0 released - ESB in progress

I like when Solo say : "Prends ta pelle et ton seau et va jouer" to Luke. Anyway, I prefer Solo french voice as the original voice of Harrison Ford.

Heh, that's really funny... the German translation of that line is rather dry compared to both the English and French versions: "Schön brav Junge, sonst kannst du gern wieder aussteigen!" ("Be a good boy, or feel free to get out right away.") I also noticed that Han keeps calling Luke "Tiger" in the French dub :D

And regarding the dubbing voice actors, it's like that in Germany... you grow up with these voices as opposed to the actors' own voices, so it feels weird when you listen to the original for the first time. And while by now I'm used to watching original versions, German dubs still are very important to me. And with something like Star Wars there's so much nostalgia in these translated versions, that it's impossible to let those go.

And regarding Harrison Ford it's especially nice that since Star Wars he has the same German voice actor, Wolfgang Pampel, on all his movies... and he's so good, that he simply IS Ford for us. I'll definitely give some of the other dubs a try now that the MKV is loaded with audio options :)

Preserving the "German" Original Trilogy (Released)

The G'Kar set can still be found on MySpleen... I've downloaded it not long ago, so it's still live. But Harmy used another version of the DTV broadcast of the SE, so he was covered. Also the SE crawl isn't of use for the German version of the Despecialization, since it's different from the theatrical crawl. I have the German SE crawl for "Krieg der Sterne" in HD, but I guess my HD recreation of the theatrical crawl is the better choice for Harmy's 2.0

Harmy, PHENOMENAL job!!! Man....wow....you're a prince :)

Btw...I know it had to be mentioned but the search function on this site is shit. What's going to be on the Blu-ray version?

You may want to try using Google to search this forum. Try using site:originaltrilogy.com XXX.

XXX would be, of course, your query.

Except of course if he's looking for XXX... though I think OT.com doesn't offer much in that area XD

Also today I got my Blu-ray recorder, so I'm going to make a first test disc of the MKV using multiAVCHD. I guess I'll make something fancier with Encore some other time.

Do MKVs support multi-angle video tracks? I suppose it would be fairly easy to realize something like that in a container format like MKV... that way you could include multiple crawls and Greedo subs, at least in the MKV.

For the Blu-ray (and DVD, respectively) this is probably much more difficult, as I haven't seen a single fanmade disc that contained multi-angle. I'm only familiar with Adobe Encore for authoring discs and it STILL doesn't support multi-angle.
