Has anyone found that DCP-rip on usenet yet?

A few grabs from "The Black Cauldron":

Less edge enhancement and a higher bitrate and it would be good enough for me.
I can post some shots of TBC tomorrow, if you like.
While this is cool I wouldn't think this indicates any major change. Lucasfilm is fully aware of OT.com for years now, and the DeEds have reached enough popularity that surely they know about them too.
There is a 1080p version of "The Black Cauldron" available at the VOD site vudu.com
A Blu-ray conversion of this is floating around Usenet, and image detail is VERY good. With a higher bitrate this would easily be good enough for an official Blu-ray release.
Harmy already has Adobe Encore for Blu-ray creation, but just like DVDit it only allows for a maximum of 8 audio tracks, and that's not enough.

A better bet would be to use the 1997 version. Unlike the DVD and Bluray, the first version of the SE used the original mix and added changes on top of it, so it still sounds more like the way it is supposed to, but has many flashy additions in the surrounds.
Although the surrounds aren't the only benefit of the Blu-ray track, with it being lossless and completely discrete.
I don't know about the other language tracks, but at least the German dialogue sounds absolutely stellar - pretty much like a current movie. Obviously they've uncovered the original recordings from back then (which were supposedly lost) and used those, instead of the messed up THX mix.
Just as a note, for my German DeEd I did create a GOUT-synched version of the Blu-ray audio... so it definitely is possible, if you don't mind the different mix and an SE sound-effect here or there.
Thorr, is there a chance you could post a scan of the opening Fox and Lucasfilm logos? I'm currently getting German prints of three SE trailers (B, C and D) scanned and the opening logos seems to be pretty low-res and pixelated - as if they've used preliminary renderings of those.
Interestingly the LF-logo in front of Trailer B isn't the one we know from the DVDs and Blu-rays (and the other SE trailers, for that matter), but the one used before that (for example in "Willow").

Star Wars Lightspeed edition is a blu ray quality original of star wars, the empire strikes back, and return of the jedi
Thanks for this wealth of information.
That's brilliant! :D
Although Abrams is of course nowhere near Spielberg's level of being able to construct shots. But generally speaking, that's not really necessary for a SW movie. SW always looked very static in terms of staging... almost no dolly moves, no crane shots, no complex steadycam work. Kershner brought some of that into Empire, but that's pretty much it. ILM did a lot more of that stuff for the spaceship shots.
Well, it's not like Spielberg put them in frame BY ACCIDENT. Those were, of course, conscious creative decisions. (cause if he didn't want lens flares, he'd had pointed the lights somewhere else)

They were pretty prevalent in Super8 and didn't detract from how much I love that film
Granted, with "Super 8" he mimicked "Close Encounters" both in style and tone, and CE was FULL of lens flares, so that was pretty spot on (no pun intended). Generally Spielberg used them a LOT in his most iconic movies, and they never bothered me a bit.

If Rinzler went through the trouble and did the research and already wrote the book on Episode I why would Disney just pull the plug. That is nonsensical.
Ahem... Rob McGregor wrote a novel to accompany the video game "Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings", but it was shelved (despite being completely finished) because the game was delayed. So yeah, I guess anything IS possible.

Perhaps the making of book has the answer to which scene was shot first?
According to the book the sandstorm sequence was the very first scene shot for the movie. There you have it :)
The rebel hangar scene on the other hand was one of the very last scenes they shot in England, before moving on to Yuma.

instead of a just a ramp leading up into a bunch of scaffolding
Don't you mean to a green screen?
That was (and still is) my major concern: How much will they build, regarding sets? Visually the prequels suffered IMMENSELY from all the blue/green screen work, which was even more apparant with the crappy keying, as compositing could only be done at the 2K resolution they shot at. With Ep VII being shot on film, at least that's not an issue anymore.
Now let's hope all that talk about ramping up model work and physical sets is actually more than just PR babble.
How can the forum have two accounts with exactly the same username though?

If you want to go act like a moron, do it in Off-Topic.
This might be the funniest thing I've read here.
I think I ticked off Laserschwert.
Yeah, but that already started in the other thread... you know, the "let other people do the work"-thread.

You're helping with your own project? That's very kind of you.

This will be a project from all the members from ot.com.
That's a lie.

Everyone contributes to this project (excluding me).
And that's just lazy.
1) I mostly removed just the big SE chunks, as there are probably too many audio changes to remove them all seamlessly. You might notice that Han's "Das kann ich mir vorstellen" is still the SE take. You have to listen to it yourself to judge how well you feel it worked ;)
2) Honestly, I don't know. I'm really not a pro at audio editing, and while I am able to edit pretty seamlessly, I'm not really fit at stuff like surround matrices. Technically all the tracks were just ripped the way they were (from the GOUT-DVD and both the THX and SilverScreen LDs), so I guess any surround information within those tracks is still present.

I just noticed that this release (at least the one from MySpleen) does not have a german dub ... is there any chance somebody could send me a link to the german audio so I can create a german version with TS Muxer?
PM sent.
I'll seed it over the weekend... anyone willing to help feel free to join me ;)
