The content sounds intriguing, though the cover looks terrible.

I think the comment I quoted was made after the article was written and the screenshots - which are 720p - were taken.
On the other hand, some "guest" answered to that 1080p comment saying they would update the article... weird indeed.
Edit: Well, all other sources I find on Google state that the commentary is 720p only, so I guess that's more reliable than that Trekcore-comment being the only source saying otherwise.

There is no 1080p version. It's 720p only.
Someone in the comments over at Trekcore claims otherwise: http://trekcore.com/blog/2013/09/into-darkness-exclusives-part-ii-itunes-extras-enhanced-commentary/

You can get the enhanced commentary in 1080p on ITunes. You just have to set your preferences correctly in the iTunes program.

I'd rather include the enhanced commentary without having to re-encode it.
Agreed. BTW, do you have the 1080p version of it? Seems to be not the default setting in iTunes...
Damn, the ones I sent out weren't made by you! I credited your for them, while they were actually the ISOMIXes I got from cuthbert84... sorry guys!
Done.
And to get back on topic: If all goes well, I'll get three of the four SE trailers (in German) scanned in HD resolution in the coming months.

That probably is 100% quality, if not higher.
Check your PMs.

for display at 1024x768 square pixels (you do accept that, right?)
No, I don't ;)
And I'm pretty sure, you've used the word "effective" wrong, as the effective resolution of a PAL DVD is always going to be 720x576, no matter how big you stretch that image. That's all I wanted to point out.

an effective resolution of 1024x576
Ahem... what? PAL DVD is 720x576... if you stretch the anamorphic image to 1024x576 the effective resolution is still 720x576... otherwise you could blow it up to 4K to get an effective resolution of 4K.
Or something like DropBox.com or Copy.com for a start.
Shorts were tighter and shorter in the 70s. That's what I learned from "The Making of Star Wars".
I'd happily take just all the raw files at their best quality. Chances are, my TV can play them all straight from an USB drive.

Well a higher bitrate doesn't necessarily mean a better quality. For example it looks like there is less grain in my version
Since when does "less grain" mean "higher quality"? Usually less grain means that the image has either been filtered or the compression is strong enough to swallow the grain.
Don't forget: On film grain is usually GOOD.
But: Did the French broadcast come with French crawls in HD? I'd be interested in those. Also I'd REALLY like to have the "Empire of Dreams" doc in German (though it's edited down from the DVD version). It'd be great if you could upload it :)
Yeah, and reading more of the news on them, it looks like Germany will in fact be getting these before the US.
Aren't these the ones? http://www.starwars-union.de/serien/1/The_Clone_Wars/staffel/6/
Or am I confusing something? Super RTL will start airing these February 15th.

Are there still no infos regarding the Clone Wars "bonus episodes"?
This may be old news, but they'll be shown as "Season 6" on German television starting in February. 13 episodes in total.

The uncorrected scan is too dark
Sure, but in that case the LAD frame is ass and pretty much useless, because correcting color based on it's different greys should at least correct the brightness (like the background behind the model being the darkest part of the image and the transparent edge of the film frame being the brightest)... but if you do that, the actual film is even darker than before.
Also once you neutralize all the greys in the LAD card, the film gets a massive red-shift.

I will be interested to see if anyone wants to have a crack at correcting the LAD slide, then applying the same correction values to the other images and see if that works well, okay, badly or not at all :)
I've tried it and I'd say: Not at all. At least the images look like crap once I neutralize all the grey values in the chart (and adjust the levels to match the black and white swatches, without crushing them). On the other hand I've got no idea how to correct towards the RGB swatches, without screwing up the greys.
Also I'd say the colors look already pretty awesome on your "uncorrected" scan.
Here's bit more on the LAD card:

What about Disney/Lucasfilm they could re-render the horrid star wars prequels for higher resolution but the price tag would not be worth it.
In case you're serious, at least Episodes II and III were filmed digitally at only 2K... so there's no way to make at least the live-action elements higher resolution.
Also, why would we want to see them at higher res anyway? ;)

On that note, the voice of Fett in the Special Editions is Temura Morrison. Now if they change that, its not going to fit with the Special Editions which means...Original Untouched Versions to be released. This could be an indicator.
OR they just re-dub Fett in the OT with the actor from the spin-off, plus adding some more changes to now make it fit Episode VII ;)
and stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels.
Uhm, there still hasn't been an official confirmation of this, right?
Has anyone found that DCP-rip on usenet yet?
