STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

Can someone refresh my memory... in that Executor shot... what is the context of the scene? Where is the Imperial fleet supposed to be during that shot?

(ie: a clue as to possible light sources)

PS: Adding filters and such to Temura Morrison's voice just makes him sound like a stormtrooper from Episode II/III, it doesn't make him sound like Boba Fett. Keep the old voice! The demeaner of his lines is off I think... it's as if he forgot he's portraying Boba and was still playing one of the drones in white.

Don't use Winrar to unpack any ISO's. This can cause problems with the structure for some reason. Just use Daemontools (just google it, its free) to mount the image then you can drag all the folder in the Iso to your hard drive

Okay, I've re-downloaded STAR_WARS_REVISITED_NTSC_DVD_9.ISO (7.78 gb) and VIDEO_TS_files_fixed.rar (128 kb), and installed Daemon tools (I'm not too familiar with the program but it was pretty easy to "mount the ISO image" and play it like a DVD through PowerDVD, and there were no hiccups or glitches of any kind).

Would you please take me step by step through the process of burning it properly?

Before I create another hiccuping DVD that won't play on anything besides my PC... ;P

Use ImgBurn

Ady has given a fairly comprehensive explanation of its usage earlier in the thread...

Where could I get the VIDEO_TS_files_fixed.rar I don't seem to have it because I just reliazed my dvd just skipped the whole scene where the falcon is getting pulled into the death star.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but his explanation was for the plain files version, not the ISO which supposedly you could "just use Nero" on (or "just use Imageburn").

If I burn the ISO with imageburn or nero, it's just going to kick out another DVD9 that stutters at the layer change and only plays on my PC, I fear.

What do I do with the Fixed files? adywan just said I shouldn't use Winrar on the ISO image. So how do I use these files? Should I even bother?

I'm still waiting for help on my specific situation...

Fett's old voice, 4 life! ;)

adywan, I read what you wrote and here's my 2 cents on the aesthetics of the Imperial TIE fighters:

Frankly, I like the rich, deep blue color (as seen in that shot where we get a horizontal view of the Executor and we see TIEs flying back and forth).

It's beautiful... I think the "everything is matte gray!" Empire color-scheme is so overdone, and it's not supported by the movies themselves (except ANH).

It is interesting though that since 1983, it seems like every portrayal of the TIEs outside the movies has been gray (apart from a couple of toys that were light blue/gray). It's become a brainbug.

Still, I'll take blue/gray over just plain gray anyday. I agree with "normalizing" the colors so they're the same from shot to shot, but not taking away the blue entirely or minimizing it to the point where it might as well be gray.

I don't think it's in any way "jarring" to continuity to "suddenly" have blue TIEs in the last two movies, or that they "look like crap." I'm not asking for the scenes to be blue saturated (I share your distaste for the screw ups of the 2004 editions). However I like the brilliant blue of the Executor fly-bys in ESB 1980. THAT is how they ought to look in the whole movie (regardless of how they are portrayed outside the movies or how the actual models looked).

So more people are okay with Han Solo's pants changing from one movie to the next, but they want the TIEs to be all the same color, as if the TIEs associated with the Death Star are the default color for the TIEs in the rest of the galaxy? I think it's good that Han Solo doesn't always wear the same clothes (that could get smelly), and that the Empire doesn't always use the same paint job.

Point taken about the TIE Interceptor being a seperate instance from the TIE Fighters in ESB/ROTJ.

As for changing the color of the Executor... no, just no! We don't need to look to the video games to tell us how things are supposed to look in Star Wars.

Do we have to change things to make them all look the same? Basic consistency is one thing, making everything too bland and similar is another (like if somone wanted to remove all the color markings from the clones and battle droids in the prequels; or making all the lightsabers/blaster bolts the same color).

Variety is cool... anyway, that's my opinion.

But if we put the TIEs from ANHR and the TIEs from ESBR side by side, the ESBR one is going to look more blue, right (and same if we put an ESBR TIE in front of a Star Destroyer hull or other gray surface)?

No LESS blue than this...?

It's appearing that shade of blue because of the flash overexposed it.

So Adywan has picked a shade at random and is sticking to it? Whatever the real color of the original models, the intention in 1980 was to make them blue, it just wasn't a consistent shade of blue (after taking account for shadows and so forth). I just think it would be dull and annoying to turn them gray like ANH again.

Note: the aspect ratios appear screwed up, but that's just because I resized them for these posts (either to 320x240 or

640x480). The actual shots look fine and you can tell by inputing the url from properties of any image (wish there was an

"auto thumbnail" feature on here!).

Wampa scene from the trailer (claws opening... is this a deleted shot?)

Interestingly, in this shot (from the Stills Gallery) the models appear gray, though I've seen the pics on SWTC that look blue.

Executor Bridge from the Trailers menu:

Now the ROTJ shots:

Again, sorry about the size, I hope these help a bit.

Well, it being different shouldn't be a problem, should it? It was obviously intentional. Just because the video games didn't pick it up shouldn't be a reason to hate on the color blue! (even if Lowry Digital and 20th Century Fox have abused it more than any color of the rainbow)

Red vs. blue tints... wow, I never realized that before, heh. As long as we can TELL they're blue (without needing a gray object or background next to them in-shot to compare) I'll be happy. I saw in the 1979 ("Launch") ESB Trailer in the asteroid chase they look about that color (though the Falcon looks greenish).

I'm sorry I can't be arsed to upload pics, but if anyone has the Bonus Masterials (disc 4 of the 2004 set, available seperately off Amazon.com for $5, yes!) Disc, I noticed some interesting things.

The colors are right! Yes, the Executor bridge looks like it does in your fixed shot. Luke's got his brilliant blue saber on the Falcon. Yep... clearly the team who designed these menus wasn't communicating with the team (or one guy at his computer) doing the color correction!

Now, if you to go to "Trailers & TV Spots"----> (Trailers) "Empire Strikes Back"-----> "Launch" you'll notice (aside from the "forbidden kiss" at :56-:57 something interesting... is it just me or is that a new shot of the Wampa claws opening in the foreground with Luke hanging upside down in the background? Maybe it's been too long since I've watched the GOUT, but that looks new for some reason.

Somebody tell me I'm crazy. Otherwise I'll double check it later after I've had a nap... ;)

Yeah, you could make them all red for consistency sake.

Or perhaps add custom rims and underside black light to the lead AT-AT, maybe a spoiler and enlarge tail pipe too. ;)

Example of a lens flare in ESB:

lens flare

Maybe for the "extras" you could put in a fun clip of the AT-AT's each with a little red dot that goes back and forth horizontal. After Veers says "target the shield generator, maximum firepower" you could hear a metallic voice say "By your command." ;)

Have you ever seen a "one way mirror" (like they use in cop shows) or mirror sunglasses?

To the outsider, it looks like an opaque surface. To the insider, it looks transparent.

I own a pair of mirror shades that appear to be mirrored bright blue, but when I put them on... seeing out, it only appears that my field of view is just a little dimmer (to blot out intense sunlight).

http://science.howstuffworks.com/question421.htm

The AT-AT windshields may be a similar thing. Since we aren't up super close, we may not see the reflection effect on the outside's red eye thing.

Or perhaps the red "Eyes" are not the same as the viewport that the Stormtroopers and General Veers are looking out from... are we even sure about that?

I just think it would look crappy to make all those interior scenes visibly red tinted and just isn't necessary.

I'm going to have to vote "NO" on prequel-era walkers as well. Stick to AT-ATs and AT-STs.

In fact, I'd suggest NOT adding any more AT-ATs, but adding in more AT-STs - there's only one in the current edition, I believe!

Yeah, definately no prequel vehicles (there really doesn't need to be any more prequel "reminders" in the next two movies... please don't turn into GL Jr.!)... and I agree, no more AT-AT's. As is, this shows the Empire's power and the desperation of the Rebels... a few badass walkers can do ALL THIS, and it takes all the work of the heroes to just bring a couple of them down... and they still lose. And the "red eyes" don't need to turn into a solid red interior cockpit (I'd hate to see Red tinted troops inside, frankly). Just call it a tinted windscreen if you want, an optical illusion. After all, they need something to keep the glare off, but who says that inside they need to be like in a submarine's emergency lights?

Much as all us fanboys want to see 2 1/2 hours of vehicles and ships smashing into each other like when we were kids playing with toys... it's just overkill. We already see full scale battles in the Prequels. "Faster, more intense" doesn't mean the movie is going to be better each time. For the Yavin battle, it made sense since that was the climax of the film and the Rebel's most desperate "do or die" scene.

But the "Battle of Hoth" isn't supposed to be a full scale war, like Geonosis, anyway... it's just supposed to be a distraction put on by the Rebels against a ground assault while the Transports (the majority of the Rebel Force) escape. It's a diversion!

I wouldn't mind seeing more AT-STs, yeah... blink and you miss 'em. But then ROTJ gives us plenty of great AT-ST action, so this is a glimpse of things to come.

As for the Vader Hologram, I figured it was because battle holograms are going to be smaller and lower quality than the fancy ones Vader has to talk to the Emperor. But then if it's lower quality than R2D2's, maybe that's an issue. But every hologram doesn't need to be perfect. In fact part of the charm of them is that they're crappy looking (after all, we don't have holograms like that in our world, but we have much better image quality... these look like early television or video tape, projected in the air). It's the whole "futuristic but it's a used universe" look that I love about the series where things are dirty, worn, crude, or don't quite work perfectly (which Prequels threw out in favor of a more shiny, rounded-edge, utopian perfection). So yeah, fix it, but don't fix it "too much" if that makes any sense.

Someone mentioned Vader's armor not being damaged by Luke's strike earlier. Now it sounds like I'm a minimalist here (I guess in some sense I am... I figure changes shouldn't be made "just because we can" but because they're needed), but I think it enhances the threat of Vader when his armor isn't even cut by Luke's attack. Yeah, it heats his metal for a split second which makes him yell in pain (and pissed because Luke finally got through his defense), but it doesn't slow him down or damage his arm.

Adywan: Are you going to restore the old engine noise to the Slave-I from 1980/1997 or are you planning to keep the "motor-boat" sound that was dubbed in in 2004?

Ah, you could rent or borrow the BD from a friend to convert... ;)

The trouble with the burnable media is it costs the same as buying the movie. But we're talking here about movies that aren't commercially available on the format yet, so it still might be worthwhile to someone...

I'm staying out of the HD thing though, I can't afford to really bother with it and the library of titles is too small for me to care (much less the titles I'm interested in).

Give it another 3-5 years when all the bugs are worked out and the prices go down, then who knows...
