Oh, right, you didn’t hear. I’m making them bad people. They really did sell her because her father had PTSD over the Force after suffering a bunch of experiments on Exegol. So when she started demonstrating Force powers, he was terrified, and convinced his wife to sell her. They were also drunks.

The reason I’m giving for why they don’t give up her location is that Ochi tells her father that he will never be able to leave Exegol again. So rather than return to his personal hell, he’d rather just die as well as spite Palpatine.

I may dedicate a whole portion of a chapter to their backstory. Who knows.

Thank you so much, I didn’t really mind Rey being a Palpatine but the retcon about her parents bothered me way more.

Honestly, to me it seems the way it originally is in the novel is a dumb callback to Boba being the son of Jango even though he was technically only a clone. I don’t believe Palpatine would claim a non-Force-sensitive clone as his son, personally, so I wanted to lean more heavily into him being a clone over a son.

This might make more sense. It’s one thing for Kylo to describe Rey’s father as the son of the Emperor in order to streamline the revelation, but Palpatine indirectly reivindicating him by referring to Rey as his ‘grandchild’ doesn’t seem something like he would do (if anything he should be ashamed of how useless the clone is for his plans, except for continuing the bloodline). So for me it seems better from a story and continuity aspect to refer to Rey as the daughter of Sidious.

I only said the Unkar thing because it seemed strange for me that Rey’s parents, now retconned as heroic and good-natured people in TROS, still sold her to a really awful guy.

I like that thought process Testing. I do believe the reason Rey’s father is never mentioned as being a clone in the original movie is because of what you said: “a familial, hereditary connection between the two solidifies her belief[s]”. While my original plan was to make the clone side of things even more apparent, what you said here has definitely made me consider going in the exact opposite direction. The biggest question from such an idea is this: who is Rey’s grandmother? Just a random Sith acolyte woman?

Furthermore, when I said my original plan was to lean into the whole clone side of things, consider this. I was going to alter Kylo’s dialog to be the following: “You’re his daughter. My mother was the daughter of Vader. Your father was a clone of the Emperor.” Therefore, technically speaking, doesn’t that make her even MORE like Palpatine? As in, would you rather be Hitler’s grandchild or his child?

I’d rather think Rey’s father was conceived in vitro only to avoid the unfortunate mental image of Sheev having offspring by natural means.

Also are you going to dive into the backstory of Rey’s mother, even if briefly? At first I assumed Rey’s father arrived on Jakku right after leaving Exegol and there he settled down with a woman, but probably a native Jakkuvian should know better than to sell her daughter to Unkar Plutt 😄

Did G. Lucas ever intend to portray the Jedi as a flawed institution in the prequels? Or was it added later in the EU?
Time

This makes me wish they had kept the extended version of the meeting between Obi-Wan and madame Jocasta. It fleshes out the political situation a lot and makes it clearer than Dooku is a well-intentioned extremist that specifically condemns the flaws in the Republic government and the Jedi.

I always defend the idea that the story works best with a flawed, even hypocritical Jedi Order we are not always sure we should root for, but that G. Lucas could have explored this deconstructed view of the Jedi much more in the movies themselves.

I think it made its way into some Lost Cut footage, with far cleaner audio. It’s from the same camera set-up as Tagge’s later shot in the conference room scene, so it could be as easy as animating his lips to match the words.

That would be awesome, along with changing the ESB crawl to “Sith Lord” where it currently reads “evil lord”.

What I like about this is that it makes it clear that only Jedi Masters could be taught this ability (all the more reason for why Anakin wanted to become a Master), and that it was only allowed for healing kyber crystals. The method he wanted to use it would be against the Jedi teachings at that time. But Rey and Ben are going to create a new generation of Jedi that won’t follow strict guidelines like this.

That’s a pretty plausible explanation, it might end up as my headcanon until proven otherwise.

I wish TROS had done such an reevaluation of the core beliefs and guidelines of the Jedi Order instead of dropping this point after an interesting setup provided by TLJ.

Honestly I find it fitting that the Sith waited to seize their chance until the Jedi were weak and short-sighted. It just should have been dwelt in more in the prequels. For example, giving it more thought to the idea of the dark side clouding their perception and their ability to use the Force being diminished, as they say. Then Luke’s TLJ arc and shift in his view of the Jedi would have been way more fulfilling.

It’s funny how the characters portrayed as a child abducting, brainwashing, dispassionate, celibate cult are the heroes!

Being honest at least this makes Luke’s beliefs in TLJ feel much more poignant.

I really liked the idea on paper of seeing an imperfect, overly dogmatic Jedi Order which fails because of their disattachment from the Force, decaying along with the Republic. But I wish this deconstruction had been played with more in the prequels to really drive the point home.

But starting Jedi training young has important narrative function. They do that so the younglings don’t have a chance to form attachments to their parents (or anybody else) and be taught from the start to not be attached. The reason why they said Anakin was too old to be trained was because he was attached to his mother.

Plus Luke himself was regarded as too old for training by Yoda at first (though granted this exchange at the time didn’t imply Jedi spent literally all their life in the Order)

Essentially, the Sith troopers are a no go because they have been brainwashed since birth by the Sith Eternal, but I had the idea that Pryde could have brought First Order troopers along with him to his Final Order ship. This is how Finn recognizes the ship through the Force. So these inspired stormtroopers would take over the ship, and in a spectacular sacrifice, they would bring the whole thing down so the Final Order becomes trapped there.

Honestly that sounds kind of good 😄

How would you restructure the space battle in that case? Would the fight on top of the Star Destroyer happen anyway?

Has anyone tried making a version of Rey and Ben’s kiss that has a hint of Across the Stars? I’ve seen versions where it blasts the score, but I was thinking just a nice little part combined with the original score like Hal did with Duel of the Fates in the Kef Bir duel, so it could allude to how Ben reviving Rey was him finishing what Anakin started by saving the woman he loved from death.

I’ll make a mockup soon, but I’m curious if anyone has already tried something similar. I’ll try different placements like when he crawls up to her, when he actually revives her, when they kiss, etc. to see what works best

The ending part of the “Across the Stars” suite has a more slow-paced, melancholic feel to it that might suit the moment when they actually kiss or after.

The moment where Rey is revived has great music as it currently stands, with a sweet rendition of the combined Rey and Kylo’s themes, so I wouldn’t really want to see it go. Besides, the score suddenly stops before Rey says Ben’s name, which is convenient and useful for changing whatever music goes after without affecting the earlier Rey/Ben theme.

I believe the original novel leaves it up to interpretation, so that is likely what I’ll be doing as well. Unless you have a reason for why it should be explicitly addressed? I’m willing to hear such an argument, because I don’t really care either way.

I always though it would be a better way to justify both Lando’s presence and everything that was set up with Jannah, had it been included in the final film. But on the flip side, all the talk to strengthen Jannah’s (and by extension Finn’s) arc would necessarily take us to the prospect of a stormtrooper revolution or mass defection, which could be difficult to write down without it feeling like a what-if fanfic.

Maybe it would be better to leave it as it is, instead of giving Jannah more weight in the story.

Chapter 6 Changelog:

 • Streamlining, replacing unusual word choices, some added details
 • Festival of the Ancestors takes place every 2 years instead of 42. This is technically a canon answer, as everything besides the film and this novelization say 2. Makes the coincidence at least slightly more believable.
 • Inserted the Luke puppet show, courtesy of Captain Faraday. This is important because I have removed the retcon that nobody heard their message in TLJ (which would have appeared earlier in the novel). Instead, the galaxy truly felt hopeless, and it is the legend of Skywalker that revives it. This is also fitting for a celebration which honors the past.
 • Changed some details on the necklace Rey is given. It is looped with beads that have traditional Aki-Aki symbols on them.
 • Kylo says “I’m not going to kill you” instead of “I don’t want to have to kill you”. Also just wants her to join him, not necessarily join the dark side.
 • New scene with Kylo and the necklace which takes place immediately after their Force connection. Made it clear that he didn’t engage it, but perhaps subconsciously did because he wanted to find her.
 • Described the database the First Order has which was created by the Empire
 • The Stormtrooper stops them because they were running and nearly ran into him, not because they already know where the gang is located. He wants to see their identification.
 • Made it clear that Lando has not been on Pasaana for the past 20 years. He pays the driver because he doesn’t know him, explains that he traveled there to help them, and decides not to follow them to Ochi’s ship because the First Order shows up. He doesn’t want to accidentally kill his own daughter, who is a stormtrooper.

I like how this is going. Is Jannah going to be explicitly addressed as Lando’s daughter or will it be left open to interpretation?

Change Vader’s line, “Obi-wan once thought as you do.” to “Padme once thought as you do.”

Did anybody try this yet? He says Padme in the suit in ROTS

I once did a mock up of a rescored/redubbed conversation that included one of the “Your mother” attempts and a brief Across the Stars musical motif as Vader mentions her. Maybe I could give it a try in time.

As Neverar said, I think the best approach would be redubbing Jar Jar to make him feel more like an everyman, with a more neutral accent and maybe even with a deadpan snarker attitude, reframing him as the regular civilian caught up in a grander-scale conflict between Jedi, Sith, politicians, etc. I remember there was such an attempt (at least for TPM) but didn’t reach completion.

Well, this sounds interesting! Even if I’m already invested in Faraday’s vision, I would gladly check out yours too! The idea of tying everything back to Anakin is very appealing to me.

A brief question (before I start reading your drafts), does Rey remain a Palpatine in this edition? It would be a nice balance if her ascendancy was kept the same, but her parents were terrible people anyways.

The Clone Wars: Refocused [COMPLETE]
Time

Hi there! I haven’t been able to give so much feedback as I used to because university has been a dick to me this semester, but I wanted to comment on at least some parts of this latest array of updates.

 • So great to see we have almost 2 complete seasons! This is going to be an interesting viewing experience.
 • If I had any time I would have suggested you to have the plotlines of the last 2 Geonosis episodes happen concurrently, so great to hear you’ve done exactly that! 😄 Is the scene of Anakin forcing Poggle to cooperate included right?
 • The three-parter Geonosis titles you suggestes sound pretty great, they wouldn’t feel out of place if this were the original episodes.

ANDOR - Disney+ Series - A General Discussion Thread
Time

I actually think Andor has a great premise. You have a character that is not that high in the power or popularity tier levels but that has shown hints of depth and a nuanced morality, this makes it a great protagonist for a smaller-scale setting and stakes that still could make for an engaging plot and worldbuilding thanks to the spy aspect. Hopefully they will tackle Cassian’s Separatist past, that could make him stand out even more (since the canon has barely delved into the benevolent people on the Confederacy’s side). I really like the Star Wars underworld as a setting, because it offers a lot of opportunities to reach further in regards of what the galaxy has to offer in regards to tone, locations and setpieces.

Were any SFX heard that was taken from the PT? for example ship engines, blaster shots, droid sounds, etc.

I don’t remember sounds from the movies themselves but there was quite a share of Clone Wars SFX, including:

 • Trandoshan sounds in Maz’s castle.
 • The Raddus alarm/siren when the First Orders catches up to the Resistance.
 • The siren from the Canto Bight police speeders was first used for the Coruscant Security Force in TCW.
 • The Force choke sound effect is heard when Kylo grabs a FO officer in TROS.

 • A small piece of the musical theme that plays during the buildup to Yoda and Palpatine’s duel reappears during Rey’s Ajan Kloss training (granted, that piece of music goes back to a very similar-sounding motif in Empire Strikes Back).

 • The pirate Sidon Ithano at Maz’s castle (the one who Finn approaches to run away) wears a Kaleesh mask. General Grievous (a former Kaleesh) wore one such mask as a faceplate.

 • The Jedi being mentioned in dialogue as an Order.

 • The idea that the Jedi fell because of their own incompetence, as portrayed in the prequels and fleshed out in Clone Wars.

 • The ships among the citizen fleet in TROS include Naboo N-1 Starfighters (those are the ones TestingOutTheTest refers to. The Nubians are the royal cruisers)

 • The existence of only two wayfinders might have been a reference to the Rule of Two.

 • The helmets of the Sith Troopers greatly resemble the Phase II clone trooper helmets.

 • The “Do it!” Palpatine line in TROS can’t be a coincidence, can it?
