I don’t think it’d really work to have a vision and then Mustafar, probably too chaotic. If one was to put the Vader’s helmet scene first I’d think a voice or voices would be more appropriate.

Yeah, I think you’re right. That way the “I’ve been every voice inside your head” line pays off.

In the theatrical version it felt a bit weird the first time, since we had never actually heard Vader’s voice coming from the helmet in TFA.

Just a small detail regarding the TIE Fighters; the First Order special force TIEs (like the one Poe and Finn stole in TFA) are supposed to have been upgraded with hyperdrives (explaining why Finn meant to leave the system instead of landing on Jakku). The TIEs that pursue the Millennium Falcon during the lightspeed skipping scene are also Special force TIEs. But since everyone is cutting the lightspeed skipping sequence, I believe the best course of action would be replace Kylo’s TIE on Exegol with either a TIE Advanced (Vader was stationed in the DS II, so why not?) or a Lambda shuttle.

I love that repurposed Stormtrooper footage! Where does the original come from? Battlefront II?

I second the general idea of:

  • Mustafar space shot
  • Vader’s helmet / Vision
  • establishing Fortress Vader panning shot (recoloured/edited)
  • poppasketti’s TIE flyover shot.
  • Stormtroopers landing on Mustafar
  • Kylo slaughters the Cultists
  • Kylo hears “Find me” coming from the Wayfinder.

Thanks! I think you’re right, after watching through it a couple times I think that Vader’s Castle would need to be almost like a flash, and maybe the Wayfinder or the box should be shown right after. Then progress to showing the Luke and Han visions.

Yesterday I watched Rogue One and realized that at the scene in Vader’s castle, just after it cuts from Vader’s bacta tank, it shows the ceiling of the room and there’s a triangular shape very similar to the Sith Wayfinder.

https://youtu.be/yHeNsynAMgE (at 1:10)

Likely just a coincidence (Sith are frequently associated with triangular/pyramidal shapes, such as their holocrons or temples), but maybe a version of that shot (reframed or edited, since Krennic’s shadow shows in the lower right corner) could be repurposed for Kylo’s vision along with the backview of the castle (at 0:24), while leaving the panning exterior shot of the fortress for the actual Mustafar sequence.

The mirroring of the Vader Castle does make it seem like its a new shot (along with the removal of Krennic’s ship)

What can also help sell that too is if you don’t use the “whole” clip.

Here is a quick and dirty rough idea if moving the Vader helmet scene towards the beginning. As for the middle of it, I didn’t do anything to it since I wanted to show just the “kylo” footage with Vader’s helmet. Obviously the idea would be to alter all that flashback/imagery/sounds/etc. to fit more on the lines of “Vader” guiding Kylo.

Just super rough idea playing with a bit this afternoon:

fanedit

After seeing your take on this I got inspired and tried my hand at it. I added Vader’s castle here, as well as replacing Luke from Ach To with Luke from Crait. I think it turned out relatively nicely.

Password - Ascendant

Wow, this is seamless! Great job!

The only thing I might change would be having a more static shot of Fortress Vader in the vision itself (namely the shot from Rogue One where Krennic’s ship lands in the platform, with the ship removed). That way one could save the Mustafar/castle establishing shot for later, after Kylo finishes communing with the helmet. That way it would make the transition to the surface less abrupt. But so far it works great. Definitely a fan of moving the helmet scene to the beginning.

Interesting poll! I’m sorry I missed out on it. Just curious, are you considering an option of undoing some of the female first order trooper voices/screams and making them male? I have a feeling Kathleen Kennedy sat there in the editing room and said, “Make that one a whammen, whammen, whammen here, put a whammen there, whammen soldier, whammen soldier, wabbit season, wabbit season!” Whoops!

This is beyond meaningless. Even the Empire had quite a share of female stormtroopers and officers. Grow up.

Sorted opinions

Color Corrections
I love most, my favorite change remains the brighter greens for the Endor forest, makes it look much more lively.
The interiors of the Endor bunker could have more of a grey palette to match the Death Star.
I agree the X-Wing engines would look better with a pink color to resemble Rogue One.
The Endor shots from space are gorgeous. The space battle is much more visually striking now, with less of a
2D feeling for some of the backgrounds and surroundings in the original.
The added lightsiber glow in the test video looks fine, if a bit static (in the sense it doesn’t change positions when Vader moves, for example).

Shuttle Tydirium
The sun and the illumination look a lot more natural than in other versions, great job!
Maybe this issue is already present in the original film, but the scenes in the interior of the Tydirium seem to lack a bit of background sound ambience. Same with the scene after they land in Endor. Is that a result of isolating the dialogue?
I like the use of Padmé’s Ruminations but I think the build up to it could be a bit subtler. I was wondering if a small piece of that synthwave-sounding score from the penultimate episode of Clone Wars could serve as a bridge between the previous score and Padmé’s Ruminations, namely the bit where Vader first approaches Admiral Piett.

Unusual <strong>Sequel Trilogy</strong> Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

I’ve been only recently following these threads, so I haven’t catched up in all the ideas.

For those who are going the Ajan Kloss --> Naboo route, how do you think to accomplish it? I’ve already seen the shots Theed and Elder heads in the background and I believe they’re great. What’s next? Name-dropping the planet in a throwaway dialogue? Adding gungans/Naboo starfighters to the Resistance? Has anyone done tried color correction yet?

Maybe the background sound ambience could be changed in some outdoor scenes. Replacing the generic jungle noises for something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-osyA0FiRLc

Greetings!

This is magnificent. Absolute perfection. You’ve accomplished something that surpasses the usual scope of fan-edits!

I’ll take they’re not the definitive versions as the audio is out of sync in the last part. But in the visual department, they’re virtually flawless.

The new JAT line might sound a little bit more natural with a shorter span between “Anakin” and “Face up…”, but I agree it’s already pretty good the way it is now.

Personally I could go either way regarding the secret council scene. I feel the silent Yoda ending flows better, but the added line justifies his support for the idea, making Yoda seem more reluctant about it.

How do you plan to have the civilian masses tribute the skywalker name, maybe a chant like when the rebels shout “For Jedah!” in Rogue One.

I believe the current idea is having the people identifying themselves and rallying each other through a voice-over comlink, shouting “For Skywalker” and other stuff like that, with the audio provided by forum users.

The Clone Wars Arc Edits [OPINIONS NEEDED] (a WIP)
Time

Yeah I believe the Domino Squad arc should be there in some form, mostly because they’re the earliest episodes fully centered on the clones and their character development. Besides this is where Echo and Fives are introduced, and we see how they transition from their graduation to their first mission to eventually becoming ARC Troopers. And it would tie finely with the Citadel and Umbara arcs.

Looking forward to watching the rest, though!

Input Wanted: Rise of Skywalker Fanedit Preferences Poll

It could have been so much better if Pasaana was Jedha fromt the beginning. At surface level they look exactly the same since they reutilized shooting locations (guess it’s a Disney thing, because I recognized the cliffs of Jedha in Aladdin too). It would make sense for Luke to go searching on a Force-attuned world, and for it to have a place known as “Forbidden desert”. And I believe someone already mentioned this long ago in another thread, but one could pretend that asteroid ring where the heroes hide after the Pasaana events is a result of the Jedha cataclysm years ago.

Shame it would be difficult to pull it off due to Pasaana being name-dropped several times in the film. But I really dig subtly turning Ajan Kloss into Naboo. Having the first and last movie set on that planet is a Lucas-level rhyme 😄

Here’s a rough idea for changing the music in the final scene, using poppa’s WIP final shot:

I like the music. Would be even better if she said “Just Rey” 😉

+1

Agree. Though I don’t have any big issue with Rey Skywalker per se, “Just Rey” would sound even more appropiate considering the scene is now being rescored with Rey’s Theme.

I imagine the Falcon interior could be placed after the establishing shot with the Jawas. Or before that, but yes I agree that should remain. We don’t need arrivals on planets to be any more abrupt.

I think the Dejarick chess scene works better before the establishing shot. Serves better as a buffer and it would be fitting that the first thing we see after the trio hugging is a “family moment” of the characters just being themselves and bantering.

Revenge of the Sith: Refocused - a Clone Wars: Refocused Companion Edit (v3.03 Available now)
Time

I’m cutting Ahsoka/Maul together with the first part of the Kenobi/Grevious fight but having trouble figuring out the best points to cut back and forth.

What I have atm is Kenobi standing in the rafters staring down at Grevious right as Ahsoka walks into the Mandalorian throne room, but after that, not sure…

Well there’s a tricky thing there because the very next scene after the first part of Grievous vs. Obi-Wan is the conference room scene that is replicated shot by shot in “Shattered”. So that conversation between Mace, Yoda, Ki-Adi etc. happens the morning after Maul’s defeat and capture.

If you go that route, you could maybe end the first part of Utapau right before Obi-Wan gets the varactyl and sets off to find Grievous, then the Ahsoka/Maul fight, then the Grievous/Obi-Wan fight.

You could end up with a timeline like this.

  • Maul runs from Ahsoka in the undercity.
  • Kashyyyk and Council scene. Kenobi appointed to Utapau.
  • Obi-Wan says goodbye to Anakin.
  • Obi-Wan contacts Ahsoka.
  • Jesse’s interrogation and Maul rallies the Shadow Collective.
  • Obi-Wan gives instructions to Cody and leaves for Utapau.
  • Padmé and Anakin apartment scene.
  • Maul vs Ahsoka / Obi-Wan arrives on Utapau and fights Grievous.
  • Maul is captured (end of Phantom Apprentice) and brought to Bo-Katan (beginning of Shattered).
  • Hologram briefing scene.

I don’t know if you have this considered but I believe it would be great to have the “Padmé’s ruminations” scene from Episode III placed next to the beginning of that long sequence of Shattered where Ahsoka and the 501st depart Mandalore with Maul and board the Venator. Both scenes convey a similar feeling with both having a dark score that deviates from the classic orchestral Williams pieces.

Revenge of the Sith (The New Canon Cut) [ON HOLD INDEFINITELY]
Time

This is all looking great! I always had a feeling this was going to be my prefered Episode III fan-edit when finished, mostly because I love The Clone Wars and I’m always in for tiny bits of CW fanservice in the new canon.

I’m glad you took my suggestion about how to redo the Council deleted scene. I had in mind to restore the full briefing room scene later, though, to justify cutting Yoda’s last line which will be said at the hologram conference, like in the “Shattered” episode.

The Padmé/Anakin confrontation looks and sounds better than ever. The only pet peeve I have with it is Anakin’s casual “I won’t lose you Padmé” right after choking her. All other additions, like Obi-Wan’s “No!” flow very well with the rest of the scene.

And adding Anakin’s theme to the Anakin/Palpatine dialogue before the confession was the upgrade I never knew that scene needed. Even better considering it’s the version of Anakin’s theme associated to his tests and hardships (Child Anakin before the Council in TPM, and Anakin confessing his dreams about his dying mom to Padmé in AOTC). Now Palpatine’s dark side line feels much less gratuitous and more like a genuine mood killer. Bravo!

I just found this video this morning. I don’t know if anyone here has seen it, but user Idkartist added ghosts of both Ben and Anakin to the end. The effect looks amazing, especially the footage they used of Adam Driver. The only thing I’d do differently in it is to have him in Jedi robes instead of his Kylo Ren attire.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlnRy7g--tU

I don’t know if Anakin is really necessary for the scene. He would be more like a bonus.
Kylo, on the other hand has to be there. I second having him with a lighter robe (unlike Anakin, Kylo’s dark costume design has always been associated to his evil phase).

Have you ever thought of editing the first paragraph of the opening crawl? Instead of the “heroes in both sides” thing that’s never really brought on in the film, the crawl could hint at the Outer Rim sieges, saying something along the lines of “For the last months, the Jedi have scattered their main forces across the Outer Rim”.

Regarding the handling of the briefing room scene, I was thinking of something. After Obi-Wan asks "Arrested? you could mute Yoda’s lines (only keep the music) while keeping the shot of Windu nodding to Obi-Wan, and cut right before Yoda (who himself does a nod-like gesture) says “Great care we must take…”. The previous Windu lines do not feel that redundant, specially the one that Mundi says later at the briefing, so they could be kept.

Also, this is a small question, but do you have a list/transcript of all the added-altered dialogue? I really want to make subtitles for the workprint version to watch it on May the 4th, but I’m having a difficult time deciphering some of the new lines, specifically the new Obi-Wan/Anakin and Padme/Anakin banter.

Just to throw out some potential lines people could say:

“For Leia!”
“We’re with you, Poe/General Dameron!”
“[insert callsign], standing by.”

Callsign ideas: Phoenix, Ace, Phantom, Wraith, Red, Blue, Gold, Green, Wolf, Wraith, various planet names (like Naboo Fleet, Bespin, Ryloth, etc.). You could either say Leader or Squadron, or a specific number. Maybe people could think of some clever easter eggs to throw in at this point.

I think the “all wings report in” moment would be great for the reveal shot, as we hear all these people raise their voices in solidarity. Then throughout the battle we could get various lines like, “For Skywalker!” I do think add voices to the battle would definitely help make that incomprehensible number of digital ships feel more like real, living people joining the fight.

PS: Dibs on “Rogue Leader”

Talking about Easter eggs, maybe someone could impersonate Hera Syndulla/The Ghost (or just repurpose lines from Rebels)? It would also be cool hearing Mandalorians since Gauntlet and Fang Starfighters are seen.
