STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time

I’m all in for retconning the term “Sith” in the OT. I always wondered why they aren’t mentioned or named in the original trilogy, knowing the Sith Order was present in the early drafts.

And besides, despite we all thought the sequels would ignore the “Sith” denomination (because of its prominence in the prequel era), then TROS arrived and mentioned the Sith more than any other film. So it stands out a bit that the Sith aren’t named for the whole middle chapter of the Skywalker saga.

For Vader’s castle - there’s a lot of flashbacks. Would it be worth showing Vader’s castle, then a flash of Rogue One’s bacta tank, then a flash of Vader’s helmet, then finding the way finder?

I think that would be a bit too much. Maybe a quick flash of the castle and that Wayfinder-like silhouette indoors in a vision or something but nothing more.

Here’s another possible placement for the fortress: https://imgur.com/a/8nzOLAB
Perhaps it could get shrinked down a little more in order to not be distracting.

btw did you guys figure out the Vader castle scene? (To the Op and thread)

It seems no one’s tackled it yet.

Once I did a very rough concept of where the castle would be placed, but that would be it.

If this edit has Vader’s castle in the background. I think it should have Jabba’s palace too.

Vader’s castle is way more necessary because the original movie doesn’t do a good job of contextualising the opening scene or convey the idea of Kylo being on Mustafar.

With the epilogue, you immediately get the feeling it’s Tatooine because of the jawas and sandcrawler in the establishing shot. And then the homestead and binary sunset basically make it unmistakable. Jabba’s place would be bonus fanservice but isn’t really needed to enhance the scene.

It’s like…anime. I like anime, but it’s horrendously rife with “serious moment…then you MUST break the tension with sight gag/dialogue.” I’m betting Rian must be a hardcore anime fan.

I found the humor in TLJ more akin to the one present in some Marvel movies. The MCU entries are full of bathos and comic moments that break the mood of serious or dramatic scenes (Thor Ragnarok comes to mind).

Since Anakin is arguably not the main character in TPM yet we really need to empathise with his motivations, maybe you could insert his “binary sunset/broom boy” moment the night after he finishes working on his racer. We’ve known Child Anakin for a while but we haven’t really seem him resent his status as a slave, or a sense that he races not only because he’s a good pilot but also because it’s the one way he could be set free.

Maybe showing little Ani look onto the distance, with some ships and gunshot sounds heard across the slave huts at night.
That way you could replace Child Anakin boringly telling Qui-Gon “I want to be the first one to visit all the star systems” with a more emotionally resounding scene where his motivations are displayed visually rather than force-fed to the audience. That also would remove the midichlorian talk.

Unrelated, but do you think it would work to move the scene from TROS where Palpatine’s speaks with General Pryde into TLJ? To make it work you would have to sprinkle in some small mention of him earlier in the film, whether it’s from Snoke, Kylo, or whoever. “Pride” is a fairly common word, so I don’t think it would be impossible to find a clip of Andy Serkis or Adam Driver saying that. This is also operating under the assumption you’re using something like Poppasketti’s ending, with Palpatine speaking to Kylo. This scene with Pryde would happen right after Kylo hears Palpatine’s voice on Crait. The Emperor’s mouth is covered by his cloak and the hologram blur in this scene, so you could add in other lines from Palpatine to replace the existing ones without worrying about his lip movements. I haven’t tested this out, so maybe it’s just not worth the effort, but I think it could do a few things. 1) You establish Pryde and Palpatine early, so the films feel a bit more cohesive. 2) It adds a bit of characterization to Pryde and the First Order at large, showing how chaotic it is after Snoke’s death. Pryde is working directly for Palpatine, Kylo is off doing his own thing, and Hux is trying to sabotage him. Making this scene our introduction to Pryde recontextualizes a lot of what he does in TROS.

Anyway, it’s just an idea. Like I said, it might be too much work for something that may not add a lot, but I think it would make the characterization of both him and Palpatine more interesting and bridge the gap between both films.

I don’t know how plausible that idea is but it kind of makes me wish Pryde had an overarching presence across the three films, or merge Hux and Pryde’s roles as a more competent right hand man for Kylo.

I think it would flow better if Coruscant and Naboo were switched. Having two sunsets back to back subconsciously implies close proximity of the planets (something that’s rife in the sequel trilogy). Also, if you switch them, we go from the bright centre of the universe to Jakku (nowhere) reminiscent of Luke’s comment in ANH.

This makes sense to me. I believe it would be more cathartic if the music swell matched the last time we see Coruscant and the Jedi Temple.

Has anyone thought about trying ways to make Endor more visually interesting? I know George Lucas said he hated how every alien planet in the OT looked like a part of Earth, so I feel like if he had had the resources at the time, he might have made it look more like Felucia with the alien plant life. It would be really hard to make something that consistently CG-heavy, but some color correction and changes to establishing shots would probably be enough to give the impression that it’s not just a regular forest.

IlFanEditore’s ROTJ edit color-corrected the Endor scenes to make it look more lush and bright. That’s a good starting point.

Maybe someone could add some bioluminiscent flora to the night scenes in the Endor village? That would make it more alien, more deserving of the “sanctuary moon” adjetive, and less Anywhere, California.

Ajan Kloss from Episode 9 is a worse offender for me in that regard, though.

Hello all, I’ve been on a trip so I haven’t had the chance to work on the Crackle saber but I just returned home a couple days ago and have gotten back to work on it. Here is a very, very early test on Rey vs Kylo in the Force Dyad Lightsaber fight (so early that the entire scene isn’t finished yet lol) but I just wanted to update y’all on progress.

As always, any issues that stick out to y’all, let me know. This is a super early test though so I haven’t really applied any polish to it yet.

This looks magnificent, dude! keep it up!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but we haven’t yet heard Hal’s sound mixing for Rey’s crackly saber, haven’t we?

As a concept, I’m totally on board with it 😄
I think Palpatine’s lines are still a tad too low (though easy to understand 😃 ). The rotoscoping for the medical droid is nice but to me it looks a bit clear it’s a slowed down shot.

The audio is good for me. The one transition that felt a bit strange was from Padmé’s gasping to Palpatine’s weird breath thing, perhaps because of there’s a sudden increase in volume at that point.

Other than that, this was surprisingly solid! Nice job!

PD: Here’s a cleaner version of that same Vader scream, it’s the french dub: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfGkPvfpjVY

Swapping the “Somehow Palpatine returned” by the 16-hours timer seems like exchanging an evil for another evil :S.

I like the first part of your video, though, when Rose, Beumont and Poe listen to the broadcast. But the beginning of the actual briefing should just be either a bunch of unintelligible murmuring or a cold silence, right until Rose breaks it with ‘Wait, Do we believe this?’.

I’ll admit that I’m not as familiar with those edits as I’ve not been able to watch them. I remember reading through the list of Changes and didn’t notice anything that set it up that much, but maybe there’s something in the completed film that I haven’t seen.

Poppasketti’s TLJ ending includes Kylo Ren listening and reacting to Palpatine’s voice coming through the radio on Crait.

There’s also Palp’s laugh in the flashback when Luke considers killing Ben, and some foreshadowing for Rey Palpatine.

Right. It’d be good to retain a name drop of Palpatine in some way, as that’s a very filmmaking thing to do. He hasn’t been referred to as Palpatine outside of the prequels. Even so, his name is used in ways one can easily infer who he is several times before it becomes essential to understand who the name refers to.

Perhaps Poe could say “Palpatine’s planning his revenge” during the briefing. He isn’t onscreen when he says the original phrase IIRC.

Oh I agree. Personally I’m leaning more towards IIFaneditor’s concept, except I would change the dialogue so that it goes like this.

“what’s the message?”

-holographic/transmission sound-

“At last the work of generations is complete, the day of victory is at hand, the day of sith.
Send the fleet to the galaxy…let it burn.
The Final order begins”
“Yes my lord”

All that transpired regarding the rise and fall of the repulic is addressed as the work of generations. Same reaction shots, more context to the story. Spy plot is teased. Best of ALL, no half arsed introduction from Poe.
A few birds with one stone, if you ask me.

Sounds great on paper! Any option that drops “Somehow Palpatine returned” is a welcome change.

The best course of action would be leaving the broadcast out. It doesn’t make any tactical sense for Palpatine to spoil his survival, and the actual message is barely touched upon by the characters. The Resistance members at the briefing, like Rose and Ackbar jr, act and speak like they’ve just heard of Palpatine when it’s supposed to be trending news across the galaxy.

The thing is, Palpatine does send a live transmission boasting about the return of the Sith later in the movie. This happens in the early third act, just after Kijimi is destroyed. This makes the Fortnite broadcast redundant.

I don’t think the broadcast works in TLJ either. The best approach so far would be the one in “Rekindled”: be Palpatine reaching Kylo through the comms and saying “Find me”. It serves as a sequel hook (the original film kind of lacked one) and leads to Kylo’s quest at the beginning of TROS.
