Idea: If every Movie had a post credit scene
Time

TPM: Dooku hires Jango Fett and then contacts Sidious.
AOTC: Anakin is knighted, as in Clone Wars 2D, or, Grievous is introduced at the aftermath of an undisclosed battle, carrying the lightsabers of fallen Jedi.
ROTS: Inspired by Obi-Wan’s broadcast, Bail Organa sets off to build the rebellion.
Solo: The Cloud Riders take the coaxium to Saw Gerrera.
Rogue One: Someone is watching the skirmish above Tatooine, later revealed to be Luke and his friends.
ANH: Vader learns about Luke’s last name.
TESB: Luke goes to Obi-Wan’s hut and crafts his green lightsaber.
ROTJ: Ewoks stalk some unsuspecting Stormtroopers that got lost in the woods.
TFA: The actual movie ends with the Falcon jumping to hyperspace. The mid or end-credits scene shows Luke standing over the cliff.
TLJ: Palpatine’s voice is heard through the radio on the deserted Crait base.
TROS: Not an end-credits scene but an extra scene for the epilogue: C3PO (without a memory restoration) asks R2 to retell him their past experiences, bridging the entire Skywalker saga together.

I just noticed something. The ROTS music that was playing during the pyre was similar to the Clone Wars music playing at the beginning of the episode “Victory and Death”! Both songs have the same motif!

I never noticed! I’ll have to check both.
After all I discovered just a few months ago that the parade music at the end of Episode I is basically Palpatine’s theme.

The funeral theme music that appeared in Episodes I and III was indeed referenced to in Clone Wars.

I don’t know what the problem with the Endor CC is. The bright greens were a good choice and the planet looks much more vivid.

Based on my test shot, I’d say replacing Sidious with Dooku is perfectly doable, so long as we can find a good enough voice impressionist for him. Also, the dialog introducing Darth Maul would need to be trimmed to leave out the part about him being his apprentice.

Still, I can’t help but wonder if it’d be too strange for Dooku to be hooded. Oh well, I guess.

Regarding the Darth Maul issue, would that mean cutting the scene with Maul and Sidious on Coruscant? Or just repurposing it? Because Sidious wouldn’t have had any establishing character moment before. Unless Dooku’s new dialogue mentions him or something.

It’s a name that was created for that storyline. Palpatine, much like the term Sith, was used for the OT and its marketing materials. Sidious was treated as his truer name, with Palpatine being more of the disguise.

Every other film in the franchise, including first instalments of two other trilogies. This wasn’t like Lord of the Rings, where it’s one story spread over 6-9hrs. It was a first story, but he failed to tell a complete story.

Was the word “Sith” ever uttered in the original trilogy, though? (excluding early drafts, deleted scenes and the EU material). Can’t remember if it did.

I believe I’m falling in a middle ground between you guys. I definitely think TFA could have used a lot more originality but it’s a fine film, and I like Johnson’s themes and character arcs for TLJ even if their execution was hit-or-miss.

Anyway, Rise of Skywalker is a film that’s already packed with fan-service, and seeing as there’s not much we can do to turn it around and make it a more character-driven story, I’m open to embracing more fanservice elements (red lightning, green Sith magic, name-dropping Sidious, etc.).

I wasn’t even aware they were chanting actual words, but I’d be down for it to be Sidious.

Curious that Sidious got name-dropped in TLJ but was only referred to as Palpatine/Emperor in the movie that actually featured him.

It’s not really all that noteworthy since both Palpatine and Sidious are names that were only used in the Prequels, so either way it’s an acknowledgement of them. Then again, the Emperor had always canonically been Palpatine and was established as such in additional material, so maybe Abrams called him that not 'cause of the Prequels but 'cause it’s what was on the box of his childhood action figure or something. The same logic applies to the use of the word Sith.

I was actually fearing they wouldn’t call him Palpatine in this movie because of the “ignore the prequels” mindset.

Not for a while, no.

Was there anything left for Jonh todo or did he finish all his stuff other than hair?

Not that it’s for Ascendant, but I talked to him and he’s planning on doing an alternate Force ghost scene at the end to include Anakin with Ben, Leia, and Luke when he’s finished with everything else 😄 I’m excited to see the entire Skywalker Force ghost family together

I will watch his career with great interest

I’d really like to see a Nightsister green smoke effect (with SFX included) either around Sidious’s life-support system or when he drains the Dyad power out of Ben and Rey.

Yeah the red lightning might feel like something coming from a videogame or a comic book, but I’m still intrigued by its plausibility. At least it has a precedent in the form of the Son of Mortis, and besides, the Dyad power did not only restore Palps but also gave him brand new clothing so I think most audiences could give it a pass.

Also the visual contrast between Palps’ red lightning and Rey’s blue Skywalker lightsaber would be impressive.

Denmark Disney+ ad has (accidentally?) confirmed the casting of Rosario Dawson and Timothy Olyphant in season 2: https://thedirect.com/article/the-mandalorian-season-2-disney-rosario-dawson-timothy-olyphant-cast
The ad has now been taken down.

Almost certain that Ahsoka Tano will be in the show now. As for Timothy Olyphant, of course a lot of people say Cobb Vanth from the Aftermath trilogy; I haven’t read those books in ages though so I’ve forgotten who he is.

Vanth is a guy who acquired Mandalorian armor (presumably Boba Fett’s) and became a prominent lawman on Tatooine.

I hope Ahsoka’s reported role is a glorified cameo or a really meaningful bit part. I trust Favreau’s and Filoni’s judgement and hope they’ll manage to justify the inclusion of all these known characters in the story.

“Centralists” is definitely a more accurate term. I don’t know what were they thinking when they went with “centrists” which is a different kind of political posture IRL.

For any version that keeps Starkiller Base, it should be stated that the First Order has fully seceded from the New Republic, becoming an independent state (because it could feel strange having the FO going from wanting to control the Republic to just go and destroy the Republic).

Yeah obviously it would be much better if the First Order having its roots in the Republic was stated in the opening crawl for TFA or something.

Independently of expanded canon, I always got the idea the First Order had a mixed origin: partly from an Imperial remnant (explaining its military junta style, brainwashing of child soldiers, Snoke, etc.) and partly from a secessionist New Republic party (giving the First Order legitimacy and providing most of their resources to rebuild their fleet). I really hope the Mandalorian provides us with more hints to the origins of the First Order. Apparently not everyone was pleased with the restoration of the Republic and it would be interesting how this point of view would have helped the rise of the First Order.

And yeah it would have been great if at least some hint to the political future of the galaxy was given in the epilogue of ROS. Ideally, they would have left some kind of message, going from “kill the past” to “learn from the past” both for the Jedi Order (have Rey acknowledge the old Jedi were flawed, and setting off to build a new one) and the eventual successor of the Republic.

At work a few weeks ago I had an idea for a recontextualizing of TFA’s backstory that might be doable in a fanedit?

Not sure if you’re into the expanded universe but the official canon portrays a very similar scenario. The New Republic was split in two parties: there were those who appreciated the old regime and wanted a centralised government and more powerful military, and there was the faction led by Leia that favored liberty and autonomy of individual planets. Some of Leia’s political allies backed the Resistance, while many opposing Senators eventually defected to the First Order.

This is widely regarded as Finn’s theme and it was originally listed as such, It’s used over his scenes in a slow or fast pitch in The Force Awakens : https://youtu.be/cHJrfB7VquM?t=78

It’s used as his theme in battlefront aswell,

Oh, that’s Poe Dameron’s theme.

The Battlefront II thing is probably because Poe’s already represented by the March of the Resistance in the game.

Does anyone know why just didn’t ever use Finn’s theme again after The Force Awakens?

Did Finn even have a theme? Feel like I missed that.

Not sure if Cinefy means this very same piece, but apparently this pursuit theme is considered by some people as Finn’s motif in TFA:

Maybe it was a discarded theme that Williams established but didn’t revisit, like the First Order theme.
