I didn't know they we're playing the unsubbed version later in the night...dang, do they have new Lasseter clips before those movies or do they replay?

They're the same. The only change is the end, where he says this is the subbed version.

Anime Los Angeles' Star Wars workshops
Time
Next weekend, there's a small anime convention going on in Van Nuys. There will be two Star Wars related workshops. One where you can build your own lightsaber hilt, another where you can make a Jedi robe. So I thought I'd mention it for any locals who might be interested.

The website is http://www.animelosangeles.org/anime-la/2006/index.php.

Here's a link to the workshop info. http://www.animelosangeles.org/anime-la/2006/EventWork.php

Lightsabers have an optional fee of 10 dollars to get a bag of things to customize your hilt, including a belt clip. The four main parts at not provided, as these should be personally picked out.

Jedi robe naturally requires you provide your own fabric. 100% wool with a twill weave will bring the best results. I'm not sure on how the panel will go if you don't bring any. The Lightsaber has free handouts I know.

I just learned that I'm going. The panels will begin Sunday morning.

And more than that, Nausicaa has been re-edited (I don't remember if it was the US version) and many scenes have been deleted...
I'll try to find the article about that (it's in french, but...).

They're probably talking about Warriors of the Wind, the 1985 New World Pictures release I mentioned. The US Disney release is uncut. Only Laputa was rescored to fill in silence and to make it full symphony. It's on the dub track only. That's because it was dubbed at the same time they dubbed Kiki. They don't do that any more.

Babyhum, like I said, I am recording the TCM intros. THey're in SP S-VHS-ET format. I'm a huge anime fan, and know some good sites. If I see anything, I'll keep an eye out. I do have an episode of The Ghiblis if memory serves. Though I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for.

Not in the least. Back in the nineties, Nausicaa was licensed by a small company. It was dubbed, edited, and distributed as a film the company claimed to have made called Warriors of the Wind. Miyazaki was horrified and deeply upsetted by this. There's a no exceptions, No Editing clause in the licensing agreement. Disney can't cut so much as a frame and it's been that way since Mononoke Hime.

Basically chalk it up to Disney bashing that the misinfo continues to circulate. Even the new dubs are pretty accurate, with Lassetter overseeing them. The only reason the Laputa dub has so many liberties is due to it's age.

As for Miyazaki as "The Japanese Disney", I find it quite fitting. Walt and him share many of the same commitments to quality. Besides, anime owes itself to american animation, particular Disney, seeing as they influced a man named Osamu Tezuka.

I think Disney's actually handling them pretty well now here in the states. They even worked with TCM to get them showed. In both languages no less. So I can't really complain. Though I think the subs on Laputa were a bit mistimed(though it could be my lousey player and fatigue).

Speaking of Porco Rosso, it's on right now.

Actually they show the dub and then the sub, which is an awesome thing. Heck, I'm watching Totoro as I type this. The new dub's pretty good, and I don't like dubs. Just seeing the film in widescreen is awesome(I saw the Fox release long ago). I am recording the intros, along with the films I don't have, but it's to S-VHS-ET. I didn't get the ones to Mononoke or Sen to Chihiro.

I love how they don't cut the intros fast enough. You get to see the TCM host constently make dumb faces.

StarWars: Empire at War PC game demo out!

Though my PC played it very poorly, I thought Force Commander wasn't half bad. The Hoth level being the funnest. Though the resource system stunk. I remember my friend having to stop everything else just to defend a single bunker. No sooner would he pull away then BAM. I think it needed like two or three walkers to guard it. I'm talking AT-ATs.

I'll give this a go. Though skyman brings up some valid complaints.

Thanks for the heads-up, Master Sifo-Dias.

IMPS The Relentless (Troops 2): A Dead Project?...or what?

I have little faith the guys making the "sequel" are hooking it up properly.

I agree with the sentiment there. Though I really liked IMPS. Sure, the Stormtrooper part wasn't the best, but the leadup was nothing short of extraordinary. It made up for the disappointment that was the overhyped Revelations.

Can someone give me the lowdown on this "Starship Exeter"? I'm not really involved in the Trek community.

Special version of ANH opening for Imax
Time
I remember posting about it a while back. I saw it at Great America's IMAX screen in Santa Clara years back. It was indeed an awesome thing. They used it to show the difference in IMAX. First they projected the original, and it basically had the same effect those SE commercials did(the ones with an X-wing on a TV screen). It was so tiny. Then they unvailed the redo. Quite an experience for one used to a 25 inch TV.

I'd love to see it again, even if not on IMAX.

Info: Sign another Petition - 'We want an X-FILES 2 movie nooow'...
Time
My dad loved the X-files. I personally loathed it. The characters were ok, but i saw one too many Chris Carter interviews(and I hated him more and more with each one). So basically, with my dad shoving Gillian Anderson in my face, along with Carter's lameness, and the fact that it's everything I hate with "Sci-fi", yeah, I was partying when they finally canceled the sucker. The X-Files is dead, and Carter killed it.

The Last Of The Mohicans NTSC (Original Version) (Released)
Time
I have the soundtrack on cassette, since it came with our VHS copy, years ago. I found it interesting that they put Jones part of the score on one side, and Edleman's on the other. It's convenient though, since i don't have to forward through Edelman's stuff to get to Jones(the vast superior of the two). I always really liked that film, though lately i seem to always catch it on tv(where the music goes haywire).

What's the situation with Lucas saying he "forgot" to insert Temuerra Morrison's voice into the OT?
Time

I think he's already gone on record saying in the OT, not all of the stormtroopers are clones, and certainly aren't all based off of Jango, given that he died some 25 years earlier. Given that the clones age at twice the rate, Jango's clones would be creaking around.

Unless they're making copies of copies, which could explain why OT stormtroopers aren't all that sharp compared to PT clonetroopers.

Plus, George actually is a fan of TROOPS. And we know those troopers weren't clones.

According to Battlefront II, there was an uprising on Kamino, and the new stormtroopers are made from several different hosts. Basically it was an excuse to have Stormtroopers fight Clone Troopers. I don't put too much stock in it.

Though I hate the idea that all stormies are clones to begin with. It baically turns the Galactic Civil War into the Galactic Revolution.

EU books: A funny Lucas contradiction

I agree. When I was in the theater, I was like, "um, shouldn't they cover him up?" I mean, I know it was probably for effect or something, but come on. You'd think the people of this hi-tech civilization (or at least George) would know better.

LOL. They should have had one guy off to the side saying "Er, Sir... Mr. Palpatine? Geez sir that looks pretty nasty- I think it might get infected..." Then have the new Emperor, while looking crossly at the person who spoke up, unscrew the lid of a salt shaker and pour it onto Anakin's body... then walk on.

Thanks, Greencapt. The image of that in my head is priceless. :

If memory serves, Coruscant according to the EU does have ice caps. They provide the source for water. Other than them, the only part of the surface still visable is a mountain top in Monument Square.

Idea: 40 Year Old Virgin - theatrical cut?
Time
Personally, I hate it when they pull stuff like that. They did it to King Arthur too. I still haven't seen that because I like to see theatrical cuts first. Entended versions do nothing for me when I don't know what's new. I like knowing what's change, and am of the mind that usually things are cut for a reason.

What did they add? I rented the DVD. I liked it, but I have a feeling some of the jokes I didn't care for were probably added.

Idea: a 2005 King Kong edit...
Time
I liked the film a lot, but do agree that some could be tightened. I'm glad this popped up, as I was wondering if others felt the same. I was even thinking it walking out the theater.

Basically, I think the whole V-rex fight could be shortened. Granted, it's was nicely done, but it goes on for so long that you start to question the plausibility. They fight, fall, hang, then fight again. Yes, Mr. Jackson, seeing him fight three at a time is cool and all, but it eventually becomes just a showcase for the effects.

I'd also trim the bug scene a bit. I didn't find the whole 'shooting them off with a machine gun' entirely believable, but I'm not sure how else it could be handled. I get that he's going for a thirties like film with overthetop action, but it does get carried away.

The dino chase also gets a bit muddled towards the end.

Also, I'd either shorten or remove the Venture pan shots. The dynamic camera really gives away the effects.

If it were up to my sister, she'd cut the ending. ^_^

All in all, not much should have to be done, as it's a great film. A little tightening in the action department should be all it needs.
