The 2004 DVDs will be Limited Edition! No more to be produced after Dec 2004!
Time
Speaking of used copies, I noticed a huge influx of video copies of the Not-So-Special Edition. Streetlight Records had at least ten boxsets on their buy table. Rasputin had numerous copies, especially widescreen one. Rasputin never recieves widescreen copies, they usually go to Streetlight. Also, SE copies outnumbered OT ones at least 3:1.

Luke30, I must admit that judging by the above two posts, you are far more reasonable than some who don't like the OT. Browsing TF.N (I doubt I'd ever join) I could never get the hostility some pro-SE fan's exibit. I really don't get how an OT release would threaten them to the point of bad-mouthing fellow fans. It sickens me to see such a rift in a once united fandom. Even the other day, I was being ridiculed because I appearently missed the memo that all stormtroopers are clones. Only the recent Zahn novel has even alluded to that idea, but it seems I'm stuck in "my fanfics" in trying to claim that it makes no sense that all stormtroopers are clones. It's how Lucas has decided to turn his fans, whom's opinions he cares not for, against one another.

As for me, I'm a purest. I grew up with these films. Part of the reason I loved them was the work that went into the SFX. Sure, early on the guys screwed around, but when Lucas pulled them together, it really was Industrial Light and Magic. All the X-wings are unique, the creativity of scrounging model parts and detailling a Super Star Destroyer that was set to be in only a single scene was astonishing. I'm still awed be the Falcon shooting out of the flames of the DS II. In the SE, every X-wing was the same model. A town on a backwater planet is now a sprawling metropolis. Bespin has magically changing windows, and pilots that like to buzz the towers. Vader returns to his shuttle so he can ruin the tension of our heros' escape. Jabba repeats Greedo, Alderaan supernovas, Audry II fills in for the Sarlaac, and a rebel lookout post is right next to the hanger.

On a unrelated note, nice to now that I'm not the only anime fan here. What fansub group do you work with, Molly?

I wouldn't blame the cgi work(me, not blame cg?) but rather the material. Yoda is a minor character in the PT. He doesn't have the importance and promenence that he does in the OT. There just not that much to go with. I'd elaborate, but I'm a bit worn out arguing with someone on a different forum that not all stormtroopers are clones.

Question: Why is Greedo different?
Time
Supposedly, you have a man that's seen it all, done it all, etc. He'a smuggler, someone hard to trust. Naturally, if he has a gun in his face, he's going to know how it ends, so he takes action. Having him shoot first say this guy is on his toes, he's dangerous, can Ben and Luke trust him. It helps make his redemption a bit stronger at the end of the film. Now, he's a guy that can't see a shot coming from two feet away, and Greedo couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.

Bullshit nothing beats his cockyness from the little guy when just before he kicked ass.

Um, that speech defined Yoda. It spoke volumes about the Force, and added depth to the scene. Seeing him bouncing off walls in a pinball doesn't.

^ LOL

My favorite moment in RotJ has to be the final duel between Luke and Vader.

V: You can not hide forever, Luke.
L: I will not fight you.
V: Give yourself to the Dark Side. It's the only way you can save your friends. Yes. Your thoughts betray you. Your feelings for them are strong. Especially for.....sister. So, you have a twin sister. Your feelings have now betrayed her too. Obi Wan was wise to hide her from me. Now his failure is complete. If you will not turn to the Dark Side, then perhaps she will.
L: NEVER!!

Cue timeless male choir as Luke attacks Vader with all his might. I truly powerful moment. You know, something both prequels lack(I still like them though). Oh, and Jimbo, someone of your age shouldn't have such horrid grammer. If I didn't know better, I'd say English was your second language. At the very least, use a little thing called spell check, please. It will add much more credit to your opinions.

THX 1138 - What a Special Edition SHOULD Be.

Jimbo, even if the changes are an improvement, it doesn't automatically mean the original sucks. If you gave a damn about anything, and had any sense of fairness, you would watch both versions. I always watch the original first. Then I'll watch the director's cut. Usually, I prefer the original(Das Boot), sometimes the DC(ST: TMP), and other times both(T2, LotRs). The only time I've seen a directors cut of a films before the original was Dune. Same goes for Blade Runner, as you can't find the original. You owe it to yourself to give both versions a fair chance. But then, you're so biased and selfish, who cares, right.

Obviously, the one with the flasier, ADHD tuned imagery instead of plot is always better. Anything over a decade in age should be remade, right Jimbo? Lord knows, no film should be in black and white. Especially films like "The Wizard of Oz", where the use of color actually has meaning. Who cares if the excellent film "Wings" won the first Oscer for Best Picture, it has no sound, so by the logic you display, it has to suck, correct? Tell me is there anything you think shouldn't be redone to modern, soul-less specifications?

Yeah, I get what you're saying. I guess since I read the book, I knew who he was and didn't really need the scene. My problem was that Luke barely mentions him at the start of the film("That's what you said when Biggs and Tank left."). So I imagined that most people would forget that line. Now suddenly there's this guy being all buddy buddy with Luke, and we're grasping for straws trying to figure out who he is. The scene is still the best addition in 97, being as it's the only thing that added any real value to the film. Did Lucas every give any explanation to it being cut?

I heartily agree with you that it was a mistake. I was wrong saying it was a remake. It has to be an official one to be called that. In actuality, it's a rip-off of War of the Worlds. The entire plot was lifted, with some additions. Think about it.

Aliens out of resources choose to rob Earth of it's.

All resistence fails.

The Bomb is used, and also fails.

Aliens defeated by virus.

I rest my case. The original is by far superior, including the more awe inspiring effects. Ok, this thread's going off topic.

Basically, I liked the documentry. It contained no info I didn't already know, missed a lot of things I did, and barely featured the SE nuntil the end of Jedi's segment. Still not worth the price and shame of the boxset though.

We actually designed two of them. They sure look nicer than the official box and the preveous one he had designed. We're working on a Macross Plus box as well(I have that on video so it's no use to me), so if you have any ideas, check out the thread on that forum. Here's the link to that thread, which has pics of the two, 12 disc boxes (Macross TV = 9 discs. then one disc for the 20th annaversary DVD, the FX bootleg of Macross: Do You Remember Love, and Macross: Flashback 2012).
