Getting the word out.
Time
Now that the discs are on the shelf, has any one attempted to inform the masses? I know some reviews mention new changes, but some don't. I was at Best Buy today, where I asked a guy if he knew. He said he did, already had bootlegs, and was only getting it for the extras. He seemed as disgusted by Lucas' marketing as we are, but knew not of our site. Being the kind of guy I am, I at times feel obligated to inform people of things in such stores. The amount of ignorence must be curbed. Reading the SF Chronical, they said "Whatever. Close your eyes for three seconds..." in response to Greedo. Calling us a "rebel faction that views the discs as blasphemy". I say, if we are to be outcasts, then let's let it be known.

I'm going to look into printing out quick, inconspiculous flyers. If I'm at Best Buy, Suncoast, etc., I'll hand them to anyone interested in the DVDs to save my breath. A single fan giving another fan a piece of paper shouldn't be too scandalous. I'd suggest leaving out any liebel. You don't have to kiss Lucas' ass, but avoid tearing him a new one. We want to appear genuine, sincere, and, above all else, civil. We want to look like the concerned fans we are, and not the old, change-hating, Lucas despising madmen we're made out to be. One such flyer should list the new changes, the pressing errors, perhaps even some quotes, and screenshots.

The point of this would be merely to allow the fans to make an educated choice. If i can get one person to reconsider buying these and instead get Battlefront, I'd say it would be worthwhile. If anything, point out verbally that these are not the classic trilogy as they've been touted as. We must inform, not beat a dead horse(if they don't care leave them be), but at least get the word out.

Couldn't agree more. Wasn't a subscription only 20 bucks before Hyperspace? I used to have one. Then I stopped recieving issues, so I figured it was up. Then, after like 5 months of nothing, I get three more issues, and no notice to renew. Technically, they owe me some issues, but it might be too late to point it out.

List of all OT changes?

I can report a sound difference I've never seen mentioned before. I have the 1992 PS video release, and the TR47 DVD set. The biggest difference(other than the DVD being widescreen and the vhs looking better on my 9" while the DVD looks better on my 32" digital) is C-3PO's line - "The tractor beam is coupled to the main power reactor at seven locations. A power loss at one of the terminals will allow the ship to leave" being absent from every set but the 92 tape collection. However, I've noticed a new difference. In ESB, when Yoda mentions Luke's father.

TR47 - "Father?! How fortunate was he. Powerful Jedi."

92 VHS - "Father?! How fortunate was he. How fortunate..."

EDIT

Ok, right after I typed this, I played back the DVD. I heard "How fortunate..." so I cheacked my tape again, and sure enough the line is "Powerful Jedi."

There's something in the delivery that seems to mutate the line if one doesn't pay attention. I haven't caught that in 12 years.

"Show Us Your DVDs! -- Bantha Tracks wants pictures of your new Star Wars Trilogy DVDs from wherever you are -- the crazier the better! Click here and look for "Fan Submissions" to send photos of you, your friends, and your new DVDs!"

Well, they said, the crazier the better. Think they'd mind if we showed them our DVDs along with our unique cover art? Sadly, it's for their Hyperdrive, "let's only hear from the fans who pay us" system.

Expect someone to come after jimbo in the night. ^_^

As for me, widescreen, the original sound mixes, fully and non-destructively restored, with a great deal of what's been mentioned above extras wise. I don't really carefor bonus material anyway(though I might rent the extra disc tomorrow). Oh, and a D-VHS release sometime soon might be nice(provided my TV is actually HD-ready).
