Changes in 2004 DVDs

"The Jedi are extinct. Their fire has gone out of the universe. You, my friend, are all that's left of their religion". No, I read the EU, there's nothing that supports Sith occupation after the fall of the Jedi. The temple's there to add another needless link between trilogies. Plus, you state this as if Lucas always intended its survival. If he did, why isn't it in the 1997 version.

They why the fuck do people not like the idea. Its just one of the stupidest prequel complaints.

First off, watch your language. You take this stuff way too personally. Second, it is a very legetimate prequel complaint, and you are in no position to judge the validity of PT complaints. Midi-chloreans removed a lot of the mystery of the Force. It went for this vague energy field that some people/families could use, to "oh, he's got a lot of midi-chloreans, he's strong in the Force". Slapping a scientific explanation on something that didn't need one was pointless and dumb. It was really only to show that Anakin was "the choosen one."

Jokes thread : Reloaded
Time
A father's three daughters are all going out on dates the same night. Being somewhat protective, he asks them to have their dates pick them up so he can meet them. They all agree. That night, the girls are upstairs getting ready, and he's on the couch, watching football. Suddenly, there's a knock at the door. He answers it, and it's one of the boyfriends.

"Hi, my name's Joe. I'm here to pick up Flo. Is she ready to go?"

The father thinks that he seems like a nice guy, and calls to Flo. They leave, and he returns to the couch. A short time later, there's another knock at the door.

"Hi, my name's Freddy. I'm here to pick up Betty. We're going to have speghetti. Is she ready?"

Again, he seems like a nice guy.

"Betty, your date's here."

No sooner have they left then there is a third knock.

"Hi, my name's Chuck-"

"FORGET IT!!!"

Ah, jimbo and his, "nothing can possibly be otherwise if I say so" mentality. A breif appearence in Clone Wars does not mean he'll be cool in ROTS. Also, could we wait for the film to come out before we say how much it sucks/rocks?

That hasn't stoped many from proclaiming it will suck. Despite how excellent both Attack of the Clones and Clone Wars was. Despite that it shows the rise of Vader something I have wanted to see since I can remember. Despite it has one of the coolest villians I have ever seen as Clone Wars proved. Despite being filled to the brink with action and digital effects. Has all the makings of a masterpeice.

Despite the fact that most of what you just said is OPINION. That, and finish your sentences. I take issue with how you state it as though it were fact. I thought Clone Wars was pretty average, and I know I've seen more animation than you. Also, I was addressing everyone by that last statement. Stop assuming that the whole universe revolves around you. Also, action and SFX does not a masterpiece make. Take ID4, filled with those two things, and it's utter crap.

Thoughts of Han and R2D2
Time
I too, thought Yoda strained too much with the pillar. The reason being, of course, so Dooku could escape. Had Yoda realised he could just yank Ben and Anakin to safety, Dooku wouldn't have made it to his ship. A neccesary plot-hole. Also, jimbo, models own CGI. Always have, always will. You forget that all the CGI ships in the prequels were sourced from models. They build the model, scan it, photograph it, and then manipulate it in the PC. Check out Star Trek Insurrection. They skipped the models. It shows just how shitty CGI by itself is. I'd rather have a realistic model fly in a straight line, than a over saturated, fake looking CGI image doing barrel rolls anyday. Not to mention that traditional effects are much more interesting to study.

Lack of humanity in prequels?
Time
Aside from aliens, what do you think of the de-humanizing of the armies? The seperatists use droids, and the Republic uses clones. Then one guy brought it to me attention that the stormtroopers are clones, not something supported by the EU pre-AotC. I'm not very wild about the idea. If the entire Imperial Army is comprised of mindless drones, where's the conflict? It's like saying that the Empire is so reviled, so hated that everyone's part of the Rebellion. Droids vs clones does not strike me as a very universal conflect. Sounds like the Clone Wars was nothing more than kids playing with new toys. It's one of my biggest PT complaint storywise.

Jimbo, correct me if I'm wrong, but you would support a complete CGI re-working of the OT, wouldn't you? After all, story is nothing next to tidal wave after tidal wave of pretty colors, right? Who cares if Anakin isn't likable, nor is there any connection between him and Kenobi that suggests friendship. Who cares if it makes no sense that Padme would fall for him, when he has few redeeming qualities, and is downright creepy. After all, Portman's hot, right? Who needs Anakin to be developed anyway, since he's automatically going to become Darth Vader. It's pretty sad that the character's only real attribute is that he'll become the antichrist of his universe. Lucas has a lot to cover in III if Anakin's fall is to have any emotional impact at all. But what does it matter? The CGI will kick ass, right jimbo?

Sorry, I'm in a sarcastic, sadistic mood right now.

Hi, Just joined up, love the original movies and the more lucas changes it the more detached im getting we need the originals on dvd!!!

which brings me to my point, I was reading some of the information on various release versions of the trilogy on this page http://www.davisdvd.com/misc/ep4.htm
and it was talking about the sound track being changed in about '82. Well the main change im referring to is with c-3po in the death star and i cant remember the line exactly but its along the lines of 'the tractor beem is powered at 7 locations, a power loss at one of them will result in it being disabled' (yeah i butchered the line, sorry ) but the point being...in the original theatrical releases, is this line there? Ive always remembered the line being in the movie, even on the faces edition, which is the first edition ive owned on tape (so sad isnt it) and ive mainly only seen that version and the one shown on tv.

That line was only on a handful of releases(like the 92 release I own). It was not on the Faces set, so it's odd you remember it if that's all you have.

So basically 2 questions here.

1) What version do i have to get/watch for it to be completely like the original theatrical release?

A pre-ANH bootleg. The original version was never on video. Also, there's several audio mixes of this film, that it's astounding. There's really no definative sound mix for the first film.

2) Is there any dvd 'restorations' of this version available or in the works?

Magnolia Fan is working on a pre-ANH DVD restoration last I heard.

RTJ Soundtrack Album

Well, "Lapti Nek" and "Ewok Celebration" were probably cut "because they don't exist". I treasure my dad's 1983 cassette(wish I could find the photo album) As for the Reebo track, it's possible it was just a snippet, and they felt it wasn't needed or something. The Empire OST has pieces that don't exist in the film or only in the SE(without the blasphemest looping). Also, "Victory Celebration" is completely different from the SE version. It sounds like a completely different arrangment last I heard it.

Welcom to the Boards, by the way.

I fell to the Dark Side but Redeemed Myself (2004 OT DVD)
Time
I've been waiting for Hollywood Video to have a copy in(I have an unlimited pass, so it's basically free). I decided to "grab" the PC version, and while I liked it, it got rather monotonous. While it was cool to be the Empire at Hoth, the Hoth level was rediculously hard. I couldn't down a single walker. If you are an AT-AT, you get taken down immediately. If's ok for a while, but it's hardly a great game. Plus, I remember the interviews for it implying that you could change the course of battle(i.e. the story). What they meant was that the AI was so dumb, it really is up to you. Plus, you'd think loosing Hoth as the Rebellion wouldn't end the game, since that's what's supposed to happen. Fortunately, KotOR II looks sweeter by the day. Not only can you turn the Dark side, you can convert your friends as well, and it sounds like the games vastly different through that choice, not just the ending.

The film was recently released in the states. Besides, we all love films that are near 30 years old. Are we only supposed to watch the latest things?
