Let JediTray back in
Time

Why wouldn't Jay let someone back in that still refers people to this site, and is currently working on an audio project that would interest people here?  It's not like he, oh I dunno, committed fraud, or unleashed hate mail, or spammed this forum.  Give the guy a chance.

CES most impressive announcement
Time

From FSR:

http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/news/star-wars-blu-ray-details-arent-far-far-away.php#disqus_thread

I agree that the "impressive announcement" is an attempt at cleverness (epic fail BTW).

We know the OOT will not be any part of the announcement (FRAK I wish that was wrong!), so I agree that it is probably a blurb about the bonus features, and perhaps a SRP and perhaps some cover art.

I still find it unsettling that these films are always so technologically behind everyone else when they are released.  It wasn't until DVD's days were numbered (as the highest quality medium) that they were finally released on the format.  For such groundbreaking work that set the standard, the films are still treated like shit.  Simply unforgiveable.

Save Star Wars Dot Com
Time

I don't see how Mr. Leggett's reply can make anyone here happy.  His reply, while seeming encouraging one moment, is a letdown the next.  There is nothing keeping LFL or Fox from pawning off a 1997 or 2004 version to the LOC, and more importantly, there is most likely nobody at the LOC that can verify just exactly what version of the film comes into their possession.  I commend Mr. Leggett for his prompt reply, and it does indeed sound like he at least knows there are multiple versions, but I just don't see it happening.  I would LOVE to be proved wrong.  But really, who at the LOC can actually dig the thing up and verify it?  Even if someone did say it is the 1980 print, could they provide proof?  Or, would they just take LFL or Fox's word?  Would pictures of the cans or reels be enough?  Could someone examine the film itself and provide pictures?

Highly doubtful.  I want to believe, but at this stage, I simply cannot.

The Worst thing about the prequel films for me as a fan.
Time

Haley Joel Osment should have been Anakin in TPM.  He was of the right age, and had the acting chops to support such a pivotal role.

Hayden Christensen gave a great performance in Life as a House, so the boy can act.  I guess he just needs real sets and real scripts, but the blame is definitely still on him as much as anyone else.

Everyone failed.  Even Natalie Portman, Samuel L. Jackson, Liam Neeson, Ian McDiarmid, Ewan McGregor, and most of all, George Lucas.  Jonathan Hales couldn't even save the damage done by the time of AOTC.  I call bullshit on the claim that there was a backstory back in the 1970's that was "shelved" until later in favor of the "meat" of the story.  The prequels felt like they were written in haste starting in the 1990's.

I also believe that things just might have been better if the whole thing started with Episode I back in the day.  A more logical progression of filming technology, aging of characters, tools used in filmmaking, ships and locations, etc. would be shown in the films.  Things wouldn't be so damn jarring to the eyes and ears if the films were produced in order, and who knows what might have been.  A first episode concentrating on the story, imagine that.

There are also many things done within the films that are just wrong and disappointing on so many levels.  Characters died or no longer appeared, and I didn't give a shit.  Just think if both Maul and Jinn survived and went on to the events of Episode II.  What if, in a battle to establish who becomes Palpatine's right hand man, Maul and Tyranus/Dooku have a duel to the death?  THAT I could believe.  A Sith APPRENTICE taking out a Jedi MASTER like a punk, I don't believe.  Instead of dying in such a cheap, predictable, horrible way, how about a more noble death for Jinn on Geonosis, protecting his comrades?  By that time, the audience just may have started to care about him a little and it might have made an impact.

Woah, sorry for the novel.  I just get so mad about the blown opportunities.

Grant McCune dies at age 67
Time

I didn't see any mention here.  If I missed something, please merge or remove if needed.  Grant McCune has passed away from cancer on Monday December 27th.  He worked with Dykstra on Star Wars and specialized in R2-D2 and miniatures, for which an Academy Award was won.  He also was a Death Star Gunner in the film.

We are losing more and more people involved with these films.

Arcada Theater in Illinois playing Star Wars Wednesday December 29th 2010
Time

Now THAT's a poster.  :)

Unfortunately, the guy that reported to Darth Spice did not go to the screening:

"Sorry I don't have a report for you. My wife had to go in to the hospital on the 28th after I made the report about the screening, and it being my youngest's 2nd birthday on the 28th we ended up celebrating last night. If you hear of anyone that went, let me know. I have a feeling they will be playing more Star Wars movies there from time to time if it went well.

Everyone is fine here now, so I'm really bummed that we missed it!

I heard from another chicago local on the rebelscum boards that had seen a previous screening there that it was nothing special and they had played the film off a DVD or something - though I'm pretty sure that isn't entirely accurate since that doesn't sound legal and the company that owns this theater now hosts some pretty high profile entertainment there so I don't think they'd risk the wrath of lucasfilm by having an illegal showing."

I haven't been able to find any other mentions.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

Seriously though how pathetic will it be to have the deleted scenes of the oot on blu ray in HD without the actual films, lol.  Because i don't count the 2004 as the movies i loved as a kid and made me a fan.

The hell for original trilogy fans is not over either.  Not only will the real movies not be on the blu rays, but they will probably break records in blu ray sales, and then Lucas with continue to destroy star wars with his 3-D versions of the 2004 versions.

He can afford to give away half his fortune to charity when you consider how much money he will make on the blu rays and the 3D releases.

He just supposedly spent 30 mill to convert phantom menace.  If that does well each other film will be converted in turn unless they do it as a one shot deal.  Supposedly some country in india or singapore is converting them on the cheap.

We can get Jar Jar stepping in poo in 3D but no restored original trilogy, its plain madness.

Yes, yes indeed it is.  And, he's back!  Again!

But seriously, where did you hear about the India/Singapore thing?  Do you have a link?

Holy crap this is better than anything on TV!

The Blu-ray set is (unfortunately) going to be crap.  It is up to the community to preserve these films.  It would be nice to have better quality source material, that's for sure.  But, what folks here have done, I never would have thought possible until I popped the AVCHD's in.  I am eternally grateful for that.  Polishing a turd is a complicated process, and I'm all for setting up a fund for an actual print being restored, should the opportunity ever come.
