I hope you're right about the X0 Project. And I think you're right about wanting to make your own transfer. It's something not all that many people do (despite there being a pretty good concentration of that kind of person here on OT.com), and unless you cheap out and use a DVD recorder, you have to educate yourself about a ton of basics, just to get in the ballpark of a good transfer.
I don't think that many people really realize just how tricky and time-consuming it is to make your own capture, and do a good job. Those of you who have done your own get my respect, no matter how your versions end up stacking up to each other -- or to the eagerly-anticipated X0.

I was double-clicking on one of the actual PAR2 files with content, rather than the base -- but I think I was doing it directly in Agent (which usually works). I've gone out and come back in the meantime, so I'm not sure that's the only thing I did or not.
I guess it must have been, because now when I double-click on the PAR2 file with 23 blocks, it verifies and works fine. Thanks, greencapt!
PAR2 files are pretty much magic, but sometimes I feel like I gotta go back and write my OWLs again...

Hmm... parts 5 and 12 have been re-upped, but that only gives me 2 blocks if I download 100MB, since I already have 207 out of 208 parts for each of those. What I really need are PAR2 files. The ones you posted are unusable for some reason. Post 4MB of those puppies (the first three you've made would do, giving me 14 parts, I think), and I'm done.
Thanks for following up!

Hey, Greencapt:
I need 13 blocks to finish your post of Moth3r's ANH. The PAR2 files appear to be borked: wrong names, and reported in QuickPAR as "Damaged (0 blocks available)". Can you up something that will sort this out, please?
Or, could you e-mail me the ~4MB I need??
I don't want to have to toss a 4GB download over a few megs of PAR2 files...

Biggest problem would be to find all the tons of tiny clips in amongst all the webdocs, etc., and there might even be stuff that doesn't appear elsewhere. Somebody more familiar with the webdocs than I might have a hope. I do not.
By the way: know where I got this? Yeah -- from my own hard drive.

Since it's supposed to be SVCD, I don't think Quicktime has much to do with it. Both MPC and VLC fail to display the video, although they do the audio fine. Which is odd, because I'm sure at least one showed the video before.... Wonder what I borked?
Ell, if you have the same one as I do, then it's 52.2 MB (54,785,976 bytes); 52.2 MB (54,788,096 bytes) on disc. I grabbed it 2004-10-30. Maybe that might help you look?

I suppose I could try getting it up on Usenet, or YouSendIt. I'm kinda hoping somebody else has a better version, though. So gimme a couple of days to figure something out.

Before Ep III came out, I downloaded a severely crappy SVCD version of some (purported) ‘marketing video’ that focussed on Darth Vader, and had movie clips and suchlike, along with interview snippets (?) and AC/DC’s ‘Back in Black’ as the theme music. I’ve never seen this again – including on my own computer, since for some reason the video no longer shows up; just the audio.
Anybody know what I’m talking about? Is there a higher-quality version around? Are all the bits and pieces available, for a preservation/restoration attempt?
I dunno – I thought it was pretty cool when I saw it. I wouldn’t mind seeing it again, with as much DVD-quality footage as possible.

ADM PM'ed me about which discs I've got. I can never answer PM in a timely fashion, because the 25-message limit is way too restrictive. Please send any PM-like messages to my gmail account, where I'll be way faster at answering.
Anyhoo.
I have:
ADM Ep I
ADM Ep II
ADM Ep III
ADM Spoofs
ADM MJ
ADM PH: S&H
ADM Hannibal
So I guess I'm missing the ADM OT?

But I'll tell ya: as much as I'm anticipating X0, I download just about every release out there, regardless. There are so many good transfers recently that I haven't really been completely able to keep up, but that doesn't mean I've stopped downloading. I'm not one to send a lot of warm and fuzzy feedback, but maybe for just a second here I'll act as the unofficial spokesguy for the silent, lurking majority. Anybody who goes to the trouble to make a transfer and get it out there is OK by me.
I think russs15's Golden Rule is a good one, though. Do it for yourself, and be pleasantly surprised by the positive feedback you'll inevitably receive. Don't get bummed by the lack of response to a direct appeal to the masses. Just keep on truckin'. If you do good work, they'll seek your transfer(s) out, and give you the props you deserve.

I don't mean to sound like a big jerk, but I don't really think this forum -- or this thread, anyway -- is the place to be discussing fresh-out-of-the-box capturing tutorials. Personally, I don't read this particular thread to re-learn all the stuff I already know about capturing. I want to come here to read about the results of something new and different from (and presumably BETTER than) what I'm doing!
In other words, I'd rather see you get up to speed capturing-wise in a capturing-specific thread or forum, and THEN post the new, amazing results here for the rest of us to drool over!
(If nowhere else, you could always post in the Tech sub-forum here on OT.com. There is an X0-specific thread there, isn't there? If not, there should be.)

I think everybody knows it's wrong to rip off someone else's work. But it's also considered flattering for someone to like your work so much that they're driven to incorporate your ideas into their own work. And that's a continuum on which it is very hard to say, "this point here is where it ceases to be flattery and becomes infringement."
Switching to a somewhat different topic (a lateral topic): I've printed T-shirts in the past, and the boldest, simplest designs were usually the easiest to print, and the most aesthetically-pleasing. Text, and a few line-art images worked best. Photos sort of suck, and are expensive and difficult to print. A t-shirt is definitely not a DVD cover.
So perhaps instead of panicking about legal issues, all you interested designers should keep in mind the technical and financial restrictions of the actual t-shirt printing process, and focus on producing a great design within those parameters.
For all its apparent frivolity, Ell's saber-themed design is probably one that won't get anyone sued. It's pretty simple, gets a point across, and is infringement-free!
If I were to make some shirt designs (and I might yet), I think I'd focus on fonts, catchphrases, and very simple drawings hinting at SW themes, rather that out-and-out full colour gradients and photos. I mean, draw a circle with a line across the middle and another small circle above that line, and you've got yourself a Death Star -- but a Death Star that almost certainly won't get you sued!

You can copyright the images in a film that show Darth Vader, you can copyright a script in which Darth Vader appears, you can copyright promotional still photos of Darth Vader -- you can even copyright the soundtrack where you hear Darth Vader.
But what you can't copyright is the shape and colour of Darth Vader's costume, say. Nor can the person who creates Darth Vader have anything to say about photos or artwork created by others that feature the likeness of Darth Vader. If you go out and create your own Darth Vader costume, that's not illegal. If you take photos of it, then you hold the copyright on those photos. And if you want to sell those photos or the suit, I don't think that's illegal. (See paragraph one about me not being a lawyer, though: this stuff should really be checked...)
What I'm sayin' is, I think if you drew your own Darth Vader, or X-Wing, or such-and-such, then you can do with that what you want. You can't stick a "Star Wars" logo on it, but you can make your own logo and put that on it.
Maybe that's a little more flexible?

But I also hope there are as many aspiring shirt designers as there are cover designers -- it'd be cool to see lots of options!
(I'm assuming I'll get to see lots of options. Seeing how the entry procedure is through the X0 Project site, maybe the contest will be run in camera. In which case, the surprise of seeing the winning design will be fun, instead!)

Like everyone else, I'm kinda hoping to see a DVD-R of Ep III with Backstroke subs. I sorta wish the Backstroke subs had been the Easter Egg, instead of the sorta-lame gangsta-rapping Yoda.
You ever see the extras for Eurotrip? The director/producers had some clips from the bootleg versions they'd bought someplace. That's what I think DVD extras should be for: stealing the thunder of, and poking fun at, the people who rip you off.

I wish more people would release covers as PNG or compressed TIF. JPG artifacting on some of these covers is a terrible shame.
