Wow. That is hardcore, good for you. Out of interest, have you read the DOTF fan comic, or have been tempted to watch any of the more heavily modified TROS fan edits?

No, I haven’t, but I am aware of the outline of DOTF which I believe with some adjustments would have made a better finale than whatever Abrams directs.

In case you’d like to know my ranking of the Star Wars movies here it is:

 1. The Last Jedi
 2. The Empire Strikes Back
 3. Star Wars 1977
 4. Return of the Jedi
 5. Revenge of the Sith
 6. Rogue One
 7. Solo
 8. The Phantom Menace
 9. Attack of the Clones
 10. The Force Awakens (seriously, fuck this movie)

That contrast with TLJ being the at 1., with TFA at 10. is quite unusual: I love it! TFA is a weird film for me, the opening 30 minutes is great, but then descends quickly and continues on to spiral downwards. The substance expected around the galaxy setting just isn’t there either, which is a major mistake. But it still places well for me, only due to other films being considerably worse, and that enjoyable opening 30 minutes.

What placed as the lowest ranked film for you, and why? (Or pls point me to where you’ve previously explained this)

Of the 11 live action movies, if I’m ranking based on personal preference, then The Force Awakens is at the bottom. Rise of Skywalker is definitely the worse movie, but there’s something about TFA in particular that I just really dislike. It’s a more frustrating movie because I could see a lot of promise in it for the first half hour, but then the movie completely lost my interest by the end. The plot is shallow, the directing style is hyperactive, and it was trying to be a fan service movie while blatantly ignoring substantial things that fans would actually want to see.

Of course, this was all made worse by the fact that I had actual hopes for the movie going into it, while with TRoS, I had 0 expectations.

I naively still had hope going into seeing ROTS, even after TPM and AOTC, but ROTS gutted me as a fan. Interesting the contrast for you with TROS after TFA, and maybe with TLJ too? Or it being directed by JJ again, or something else?

The quality has been more of a live-action standard

I have to take a bit of issue with this wording. Animation always seems to get looked down upon as an “inferior” medium, and although it’s totally fair for someone to prefer one over the other, neither animation or live action have any bearing on the quality of a story. They’re simply the vessel that brings that story to the audience.

A great example is how The Bad Batch, has been blowing The Mandalorian - a live action show - out of the water every week it’s been airing. Maybe The Mandalorian should start aspiring to be animation standard…

(I’m aware this is a very pedantic thing to point out but as a massive fan of animation I see this kind of treatment of it a lot)

It is simply praise for the show, in giving credit what Matt Michnovetz (writer & producer), Jennifer Corbett (lead writer) and Brad Rau (series director) and the whole team, for what have accomplished with the Bad Batch. I see a many comments on how much fans have enjoyed this show despite not being into animation series previously.

I’m one of them. The high quality of this and the all around levels of Andor have got me giving Rebels another watch, after I initially gave up half way through the first season many years ago.

And yes, this series has been more engaging and interesting than this year’s Mandalorian.

Original X-Wing Model from Star Wars: Episode IV!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zqz05dYFYu8 - 13 minute video at Adam Savage’s Tested YouTube channel

“Adam visits Prop Store ahead of their upcoming Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction to get a rare up-close look at one of the few surviving X-Wing miniatures from the making of Star Wars: Episode IV. Inspecting the paint finish and preserved surface of this gorgeous filming miniature is like a looking into the early days of the ILM model shop, with every detail revealing first hand the care and attention that went into the first Star Wars movie.”

I loved watching this, and the interest and joy on Adam’s face. Also his memories and skills from when he worked at ILM in the later 90s and early 2000s.

The Bad Batch (animated series) - a general discussion thread - * SPOILERS *

Matt Michnovetz, Jennifer Corbett, Brad Rau and the team have done a fantastic job this season for The Bad Batch. The quality has been more of a live-action standard, and I really want to see the series renewed to see where they take it in the next season.

That season finale was a tough watch.

I’ve only ever seen a couple people rank RotS at the bottom, and I’ve always wondered about that. I’m curious to hear your take on the movie.

Yeah that is strange, especially coming from a Force Unleashed fan. Interested in your thoughts.

I would have guessed at there being more fans having ROTS placed there, or near there? Huh. Mainly it is because it is the film that was meant to bridge the PT and OT, and instead it introduced discrepancies and contradictions with what had been firmly established in the Original Trilogy. Needlessly so, too.

It also marks low for me as there is not much in the way of a friendship or brotherhood shown between Ben and Anakin. Yes, that should have occurred more in the previous films, or accomplished it better in them, but this was the ‘final shot’ at portraying that. The same also applies for Padme and Anakin’s relationship, and crucially, “Vader being seduced by the dark side of the force”, instead of what we got as his reason for “the turn”.

Before it was released those were the four things I wanted to see done well in ROTS, and thought that we would get, despite the shortcomings in TPM and AOTC. Yet, for me it failed across the board.

I remember sitting in the cinema at the time and thinking “at least that is over”, something I’ve not felt after watching any of the other films, even AOTC. Repeat viewings since haven’t changed that feeling unfortunately. With the usual pluses of John Williams’ music, Ewan and Ian doing well with what they were given, there isn’t much for me to place it higher.

That’s all just my opinion. For anyone who loves or enjoys ROTS then best wishes to them.

What placed as the lowest ranked film for you, and why? (Or pls point me to where you’ve previously explained this)

The Force Unleashed had the interesting concept of the Emperor being the person who actually birthed the Rebellion. A ploy to out and put all his enemies in one place. And when destroyed would be a deterrent for others thinking of going against him. And a secret Apprentice for Vader too. Now that was impressive! Yes, the game was way overpowered, over the top, and “of its time” with the “boss baddies”, but was an enjoyable story, and fun video game. Lucas considered TFU canon, or “an actual chapter in the overall story line”. So for me, that became my Prequel for a time. The less said about the TFU2 the better!

The TFU book is still a good read. It does start out a little simplistic and “gamey”, but after the initial chapters it expands upon what we see in the game in some detail and does it very well.

I didn’t like movies directed by J.J. Abrams to begin with, and TFA left such a bad taste in my mouth it’s the reason I will never watch TROS or any other Abrams-directed movie for that matter. It’s why TROS will never be included in my ranking of SW films.

Wow. That is hardcore, good for you. Out of interest, have you read the DOTF fan comic, or have been tempted to watch any of the more heavily modified TROS fan edits?

The original Force Unleashed is the best Star Wars game.

I agree with most of that. The 2nd game was so disappointing and felt rushed. Which is not surprising given what we know about the situation at LucasArts at that time, and the closure of it just 3 years later?

It really did feel like a let down, maybe because the 1st games was so strong, dark, and engaging. And also a lot of fun. Yes, it was stupidly overpowered and OTT, but that was computer games in general at the time. I’ll always be a fan of the first game, and the whole multimedia project thing around it, which shits on the fans and their loyalty and memory of it when this kind of content is de-canoned.

Ranking the Star Wars TV series
Time
 1. Andor
 2. Clone Wars (2003)
 3. Visions
 4. Mandalorian
 5. Bad Batch
 6. Tales Of The Jedi
 7. Obi Wan Kenobi
 8. The Clone Wars (2008)
 9. Book of Boba Fett
 10. Resistance

I can see The Bad Batch easily overtaking The Mandalorian soon. This season, some early missteps apart, has been some great storytelling, with tension, character arcs, and high stakes. This, Andor, and Visions are the content I am most looking forward to seeing more of.

STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

I really enjoyed Andor, and thought it was the best Star Wars since 1983, so I’ll looking to give this another go, as it is features the ‘birth of the rebellion’ too.
Originally, I did try and watch it some years ago but was put off by some of the more juvenile and trope-heavy early episodes (stormtroopers can’t hit anything, heroes easily do and that type of thing).
But I have been told by a few people that it does improve on that halfway-through the first season, and stories also become more mature and have consequences?
With the new Ahsoka series out soon, possibly with a few characters and from this, I thought I best give it another chance.

Any episode gems to look out for, or episodes to avoid?

What changes would you make to the Sequels?
Time

I’d have been happy with scene setting in the TFA, the layout of the galaxy actually explained, to give some emotion for when New Republic Govt and its fleet are wiped out. To feel the consequences of it, to give it some weight. With Starkiller Base being replaced by some with a super weapon that is a little more fresh than making a large planet into yet another Death Star.

Apart from some of the jokes in TLJ, and the Canto Bight scenes, which were okay, but didn’t quite land for me, I’d leave TLJ alone as it is. Maybe with more leanings of stormtrooper unease in the First Order’s ranks.

I’d go with a riff on DOTF, more than TROS for the finale. Play up that stormtrooper unease and eventual revolt. Maybe even have some old Imperial ships from the Outer Rim and beyond join the FO in the fight, to further explain what has been going on in the galaxy, and to give some credibility to the FO’s survival, their eventual return, and ease of which they defeated the New Republic in TFA.

Should Disney Release a Special Edition Prequel Trilogy?
Time

Servii said:

Even if there isn’t a literal signed contract, Disney seems to have an understanding with George about not tweaking his movies, and they seem intent on honoring that.

It seems that way, which is unfortunate. Even if it were green-lit, would have the bottle or vision to even take on such a task?
The Prequels could really do with a Special Edition release, they have not aged well at all for me. And aspects of the story, pacing, CGI and direction could all benefit from an edit, as some of the editors on here and other similar websites have shown.
