STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

Sorry to hear that Ady - here's hoping you get better soon.

That finished shot looks really great - a real improvement over the previous version as well. Will there be a musical cue to accompany the longer scene, or will the original ambience remain? I'm not sure how much a musical cue would add, but it might make sense. I dunno.

Return of the Jedi - your opinion?
Time

I must admit I've always liked Return of the Jedi. Vader became much more developed, the Emperor provided a nice new villain to replace him as he became a more tragic figure, and I thought the Jabba scenes were pretty cool too - sort of like a longer version of the cantina sequence from Star Wars.

However, people always say that Return is their least favourite film in the series, with the ewoks being the main reason given. Though I understand that they were almost like a precursor to the childish nature of the prequels, surely it's a little irrational to harbour such a strong dislike for a film based on one aspect? I'd be interested to know what you guys think of this.

When did you realize the Prequels sucked?

1. The Phantom Menace. I'm not convinced this one totally sucks yet; the Phantom Edit did a good number on it.

2. Attack of the Clones, or Snore Wars. I never liked this one. Saw it twice in theaters, have no desire to see it again.

3. Revenge of the Sith. This came out when I was in 6th grade, and I thought it was... well, okay. Saw it with my dad while vacationing in Lanai, which is a good memory associated with it. Haven't seen it in full since.

So basically #2 and #3 are the ones I'd say really suck; 2 I knew right away, and 3 is in retrospect.

I'm guessing you haven't seen the Plinkett reviews.

One problem with doing ANH would be the censorship. A lot of the laser flashes on characters were removed for the 1997 SEs, so Adywan would have to meticulously recreate these flashes or insert frames from the GOUT - which would be a painstaking process which probably wouldn't give satisfactory results.

He already restored those on ANH Revisited and it's only in two shots. Probably by creating a plate from the SE and comping in the extra few frames of the officer from the GOUT, because there definitely isn't any quality difference that I can see between the censored frames and the SE frames. Goes to show that more is possible than you frist realize. :D

Wow. I did not know that. Good job, Ady!

I love TVTropes.org - SW edition

But then I realized that Star Wars is a combination of science fiction and fantasy, with your wizards flying in starships and whatnot. So, the magic of the Force having scientific roots is very fitting, and it explains why everybody in the Star Warsuniverse doesn't use the Force, because they can't.

This, for me, is part of the reason why I dislike the midichlorians. Part of the magic for a lot of people (especially kids) when the originals came out was that anybody could tap into this mystical field and become a superhero - even a humble farmboy. Then Lucas said, "Uh, well no. Uhh... you have to have superior genes. Sorry!" and basically just ruined that mysticism. It's like putting a price tag on the force. It's supposed to transcend that sort of thing.

Killing qui gon on tatooine sounds interesting, how much of the rest of the film be adjusted to suit this?

Almost all of it. I'm kind of taking inspiration from ANH, where Luke is left to face the danger of the universe alone (or so he thinks) after Obi-Wan dies. The boring dialogue between the council and Qui-Gon could be cut (and perhaps be heavily modified so it was between Obi-Wan and council... perhaps). This sets the stage for a poorly trained Anakin and a more wary Obi-Wan.

The difficult bit would be the duel at the end. There are big chunks where Obi-Wan isn't really doing anything or where Qui-Gon is centre stage. It might have to be significantly cut down.

I'm thinking of creating a rough cut based on this idea, which I'm sure has been suggested before:

I'd like to kill off Qui-Gon in his first duel with Darth Maul on Tatooine. This way, we can skip a lot of the boring dialogue on Coruscant, handily cut out the midichlorian explanation, make Maul seem like more of a threat, and make Qui-Gon's funeral more tragic. I'll try to make a draft of the death seen later on.

Well, if we consider TFU to be EU and Dark Empire to be of the same EU then you could say that at least some of the cloning in Star Wars is of the 'magically make a dead character live again' variety.

I started to read your post and all of a sudden my eyes started bleeding. Did you say Darsdsdgjkl ;asdgj ;sd;xbjxcvl;kxcvljk;

Sorry. I tried to reply to your post, but my hands started convusling. It seems you brought up something that I have strong mental blocks against. This thread is becoming dangerous to my mental wellbeing.

Heh. Yeah, I know there's a lot of taboo surrounding that thing.
