I think he used both.
I think he used both.

Actually, you might not need to. Listentoamovie still has them all up, amazingly--and this is a site that deals with the studios in a major way, going so far as to sell the officially released DVDs, including the current editions of the Bond DVDs and Blu-Rays. So it kind of looks like we've got a pretty legitimate source for the audio. However, it's streaming-only, and I don't know jack about ripping off streams, so unless someone else does, I'll just use Audacity and go the long way.
In regards to the Dan-removal, how doable is it to replace the entire backdrop with stock footage of the Arctic? Then you get rid of the dead space, and I'm pretty sure that in the comics, Rorschach was facing Ozy's base, rather than facing away from it.
I don't know that you can really cut Dan out of that sequence. Looks pretty ridiculously hard.
On a more positive note, you can find that Cale song on Pirate Bay. Do a search for "Music for a New Society."
I don't think Captain EO was ever officially released to any form of home video consumption. It had a hefty marketing campaign, but it was all spinoffs, adaptations, and tie-ins. The actual film was not released commercially to home video. So whatever your transfers are from, they're from bootlegged inside sources.
Does anybody have this set of DVDs? I've had absolutely no luck tracking it down.
ChainsawAsh said:So, here's my current plan (based on the Director's Cut):
- Rebuild most of the audio from the ground up to remove most (if not all) of the songs (possibly to be replaced with more songs quoted in the graphic novel).
- Specifically, 99 Luftballoons, The Sounds of Silence, Ride of the Valkyries, I'm Your Boogie Man (maybe), Hallelujah (definitely), All Along the Watchtower (possibly to be replaced with Dylan's original), and Desolation Row (likely to be replaced with Dylan's original) will be either removed or replaced. [[I totally disagree on these choices. Sound of Silence, Ride of the Valkyries, I'm Your Boogie Man, Hallelujah, and All Along the Watchtower worked perfectly. Can you explain why you want them out of the flick? I understand some people really dislike the Desolation Row cover for some reason, although personally I thought it was fantastic, and the only remotely interesting thing MCR has ever done.]]
- Credits sequence will be removed, as will much of the Comedian fight intro - the film will open with a simple black-on-yellow (or vice versa) WATCHMEN title, followed by the pan up from the smiley-face pin to the cops talking about Blake's murder, which will be intercut with relevant portions of the removed intro - Rorschach's narration might start here as in the GN as well [[You're leaving some fo the fight in for flashbacks, right? There are supposed to be quick flashbacks to the fight sequence.]]
- Cops seeing/shooting at Rorschach (added to DC) will be removed [[Yeah.]]
- Hollis/Dan seeing Rorschach news story on TV (added to DC) will be removed (this also fixes an error made by the newscaster, who says that the Keene Act was passed "six years ago," which would make it '79, when it's supposed to be '77)
- Dan asking Rorschach about the cops/news story (I believe this was added to the DC) will be removed
- Laurie/multiple-Manhattans sex scene shortened
- Over-the-top aspects of Laurie/Dan vs. knot-tops toned down [[That gets talked about a lot, but I remember it being pretty violent in the comics.]]
- Over-the-top aspects of Veidt's assassination attempt toned down (perhaps - I don't have a huge problem with the scene as is)
- "Fingerprint scan" in Dan's goggles removed
- Sex scene shortened considerably, plus new music
- Prison fight sequence shortened considerably
- I'd love to get rid of the "Rameses II" book sitting right next to Veidt's computer and let Dan figure it out the way he did in the GN, but I don't think it'd be possible
- I'd also love to insert an explanation for Bubastis and Rorschach's mask, but I also don't think either one of those would be possible
- No superhuman feats during the Veidt/Dan/Rorschach fight (though the bullet thing will, of course, stay) - this will be tricky
- Rorschach will die alone as in the GN
- No Dan beating the shit out of Veidt after Rorschach's death (since he won't witness it this won't make sense)
- Cut "Tonight, a comedian died in New York" narration at the very end - it will just be "Rorschach's journal, October 12th, 1985," then credits
- All Director's Cut additions that are not mentioned in this list will stay
- Tales of the Black Freighter will be woven throughout the film (assuming it doesn't hurt the pacing of the film too badly)Here's one thing I already know I'll have trouble with:
It'll be relatively easy to edit Dan out of Rorschach's death with the exception of two shots. First, when Rorschach starts to take his mask off, Dan is in the background, and Dr. Manhattan's glow is in front of Dan. I don't know if I'll be able to erase Dan without fucking up the blue glow. Second, when Manhattan explodes Rorschach, Dan is behind him as he explodes. It will be difficult to erase Dan while keeping all the chunks of Rorschach intact.
Much of the music that I'll be removing will be replaced with Philip Glass - since this precedent is already set by the use of Koyaanisqatsi music during Dr. Manhattan's origin story, I feel it's appropriate.
Any and all suggestions and advice are welcome - that's what I started this thread for, after all. So what do you guys think?
Replies are in bold/italics.
dark_jedi said:I have not seen this yet so I can't comment yet,but I do want to see it bad, looks very interesting,so which version should 1 buy,the Director's Cut Blu-ray or the Theatrical Cut DVD?,the Theatrical version won't be on the Blu-ray according to everything I read, hell I might just get both.
Getting both is not a bad idea. I watched the Theatrical cut in theaters, and I've seen the DC as well, and they're both very good in their own ways. Theatrical cut is tighter, but the DC is more fleshed-out and perfected. Some of the editing choices that the studio made Snyder make, to cut down on time, really hurt the critical and box-office reception, I think, even though, to me, the TC is still a fantastic film.
Don't pay for that. My understanding is that there are already pretty good transfers, already burned to DVD, available throughout the bootleg trading scene. I'm thinking of acquiring a copy myself, actually.
The Infodroid edit is going to be the one that matters. They're doing some intense work on that ending, too. Not even sure I like where they're going with a couple of the options (talking about Indy and crew being teleported out of harm's way, rather than riding the water-elevator), but it's going to be impressive, technically.
Wouldn't it be easier to just get it off fanedit.info?
olbertfrog said:I would really love to get my hand on a copy.
Pal or ntsc.
Thanks for your help and hard work.
It's still up on Demonoid.
Jens_Arvid_666 said:I have a burner, I just don't have a dvd menu maker, or an editing program to enhance the quality of the footage. Unfortunately I can't upload, still got dial-up lol.
Could you just straight make copies of the disc that you have, B&P-style? I'm quite interested in scoring that workprint.
Jens_Arvid_666 said:I have it on dvd, but I can't re-produce it on my computer.
As in, you don't have a burner? Because you could make an .iso, or just rip the .vobs, and upload them.
SammyTheBull said:I have a workprint of this film, almost 20 minutes longer than the director's cut... whatever deleted scenes you'll restore, if you only use the official DVDs for this, it still won't be complete, as the workprint has much more material.
Does anyone have this? Doesn't look like Sammy's still around.
skyjedi2005 said:Too bad even the masterful infodroid cannot remove the overpowering cgi in those scenes
For me the problem is that there isn't really an ending note in that cut. I was imagining a shot of them all starting to walk down the mountain or something, but it isn't in the flick. Bummer.

Alternate Ending: http://www.vimeo.com/4932716
Looks good, especially the ending, but I feel as though there's something epic that's missing from the very end. Maybe if there's some sort of flashier cut to the credits at the ending, that would be better. I don't know. Great work, though, Infodroid!
Yeah, I'm having second thoughts about the idea myself. It does feel a bit rushed.
Has there been any discussion of just ending the flick at the logical closure point of the four of them on that mountaintop? I always kinda thought the and-everything-worked-out-fine postscript was a bit forced. I think I'd prefer a more Last Crusade ending, with the main plot points of the film being resolved and ended, and the film ending there. The marriage and the promotion are a bit much.
joebshmoe said:um... people DO record it. there are whole communities online that are devoted to recording sports and sharing them on the interwebs.
Where do I go to find this? I've been looking for such a thing for wintersports for ages.
What do people think about doing preservations (not sure if that’s the right term) of sports seasons? So much sports footage is basically unavailable to most people because nobody keeps recordings of it. Do you think there’d be interest in preserving entire seasons of, for example, American football, or European ski-jumping, or basketball?
joebshmoe said:kinda makes playing the "drink when you hear "fuck" game" a bit lame, no?
(btw, it is ALL THE TIME = drunk)
I prefer the Lebowski challenge anyway. Seriously, the TV edits of the swearwords are awesome. For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCcKBcZzGdA.

Not since my last post in this thread.
Did you read in the first post where I said I was doing this because I have no life? Well, I have a life now.
Is there any way I can score that workprint from you then?
LinkTGF said:Yep that's the way he did the title cards THO I'm sure he chose more than just those few at random. I'm sure there were many more that didn't make the cut. But honestly, sometimes luck works that way, coincidences are awesome!
Trainwrecks... Well I've got them all minus one that was a youtube exclusive amd it will take up 2 DL dvds or 4 single layer
Why not the Youtube exclusive? Is it not up anymore? Also, is there a way I can score those discs from you? Perhaps via fanedit.info download?
Does anyone have this? I saw it once on TV with my best friend and we loved the edited swear words.
Is there any interest in starting a large-scale collaborative project to splice game footage and cutscenes into watchable films, the way several of the Star Wars games have been? I was thinking, just off the bat, off trying to do this with Batman Vengeance and Batman Rise of Sin Tzu, as well as some other Star Wars games. Is there any interest in this? And how would a person go about doing it?
