Ideas and Suggestions for :Star Trek The Motion Picture (True Fan Edit)

:)

take a look at this -

and this -

http://www.wondertouch.com/

I'm just doing some research at the moment. Apparently the Klingon ship in the Voyager episode 'flashback' and Gorkon's ship from ST6 are both the same as the cruisers in TMP.

Interestingly 'Flashback' has scenes [with klingons..] set within the Azure Nebula - in the neutral zone, footage here may prove useful.

I'm also looking intro fan theories that the Borg were essentially descendants of V'ger - something that started out as a joke but some have picked up that idea and run with it - as seen here...

You guys are making me want to watch The Motion Picture.

At the end of the day my hopes for this project is a version of the film that i personally find enjoyable, and it seems to be headed that way.

just Re: stuff that i've posted - it's all just ideas really, i'm not setting anything in stone or demanding anything.

I actually do appreciate what they managed to put together with the Director's edition but it doesn't make the movie more enjoyable to me.

There might be better footage elsewhere for Klingon ships and whatnot but I instantly thought of that scene from enterprise. I'd like to try mixing those shots with the interior shots and see how things look - but if someone comes up with something else in the meantime, that's cool too.

Re: the window in the briefing room, i like the idea and i've been thinking along those lines. Pretty sure there's a lot of briefing room scenes scattered throughout the run of enterprise, and i seem to recall some DS9 eps where they were at starfleet headquarters [Sisko and Odo?]...

one thing is fore sure - trekcore.com is one damn awesome resource.

oh yeah, can we brainstorm on ways to include some more aliens throughout the film?

I don't propose to swap out footage based on looks alone - not using original footage at the start means that there is more to work with later for the the proposed attack scene without repeating visuals.

I've had an idea about the matte lines - they are pretty thick, If i get decent results I'll post details.

I also had an idea for a simple fix for the teleporters but I'm not sure if it's do-able. I don't have my TMP dvd atm as I've loaned it to a friend. Once I have it back i'll see if it's easy enough to do.

How does this sound?  At the start of the film, there is an attack on V'ger by only one Klingon D-7, and then later 3 more come into the story to seek revenge for their lost ship. Then we get two Klingon scenes... I think the Klingons would send in more firepower for revenge.

I had a nice reply lined up and Firefox promptly crashed on me so i'll keep it short and sweet this time.

I guess it lends to the idea that two D7's would be a lot of firepower compared to a ship that's been around for circa 100 years. I haven't really tried to match up the visuals for a quick concept but there is probably enough of what would be needed to completely replace the opening exterior shots...

and on a somewhat similar note...Although it would probably be a lot easier to tweak the matte painting - it just looks way wrong compared to the daytime close-up shots..

[please forgive the crudeness of the visuals]

No ideas for the viewscreen yet, but i started having a tinker with this scene, nothing really wrong with the purple lighting it's just something I never liked...

A side effect of this is that I discovered what appears to be a bit of an error - take a look at the colour of Kirk's shirt in each of the following shots - the other things in each shot seem to match up pretty well, colourwise.

I also noticed that the alignment of the transporter beam is pretty awful here - I haven't yet gone and checked other transporting scenes...Any thoughts?

I really like the idea of seeing the ship return home at the end of the 5 year mission.

Could Kirk's final log entry V.O. from TUC be reworked for this?

As much as I would like to see that as well, you would then expect to see everyone in TOS form getting off the ship and some kind of scene implying that they're going their separate ways for a bit while the ship gets refit.  That will be very difficult if not impossible to create from TOS footage.

not really. just cut from the opening to the main titles. then it's suddenly 'x amount of time later'...

the opening could also be implied to have already happened. Basically a 'previously on star trek' type thing.

Further to the idea that Dooku is a rogue Jedi fighting a Sith run Republic, it might be a good idea to redub Grievous so he become almost an antiVader.

He worships Dooku as being the last true Jedi (defending the weak).

The Seperatists fight mostly with droids (keeping the organic civilians away from the battle).

He sees the use of clone armies as state sanctioned slavery and the Jedi council as corrupt puppets of a Sith regime they don't acknowledge existing.

He doesn't collect sabers just as trophies but also keeping them for a future time after the war when Dooku can train a new council of Jedi who will stamp out slavery and corruption.

When Dooku is killed, rather than mocking the Jedi he is outraged at them and is driven to avenge his death.

Turning Grievous into less of a pantomime villain and more of a reflection of the creature Anakin is soon to become.

You could almost turn him into a mouthpiece for every detractor's criticism for how the Jedi are portrayed in the PT.

The scenes where he receives messages from Sidious could then change to him trying to keep the Seperatist council together only to get a mocking message from the Sith Lord.

Blurring the line between hero and villain more.

so...like watchmen? It's an interesting idea.

Actually i'd be perferctly happy to see a text prologue and that sort of thing HAS been done before in star trek...Off the top of my head [iirc] the Pilot episode of Deep Space Nine started with text describing the events of The battle of wolf 359!

or maybe you could use key footage from TOS in a similar fashion to how the start of ST3 recaps the ending of ST2?

I'm just wondering if there's much to the fact that they focused on Some characters circa the flight but not others, ie: why Boon and not walt?

Aside from that i'm trying to just sit back and coast along for the ride. Don't really care for the "plane didn't crash" reality stuff right now, more interested in the temple stuff.

Re: the planet backdrop - it IS possible that tthe shuttle that collected Luke took off to anywhere, but with a seat and view like that, would Palps want to be anywhere but overseeing the Endor shenanigans?

Unless maybe this is a view from the other side of Endor - the DS is in orbit after all...

If endor is a forrest moon then maybe that is a planet that is otherwise out of view?

Re: the brighter Lights, i think that looks great.

Great mockups Vaderios.

Re: the binders, i dont think it is at all necessary, but it does look rather cool.

Was green ever mentioned as a Jedi colour before ROTJ? - I've seen at least one early trailer for ROTJ where Luke had a blue saber glow.

Seems like it was just the real world getting in the way of storytelling - much like Sam Jackson wanting a purple glow.

I'd be fine with there only being blue. The Sith only have red.

People seem to be bent on fixing things with colours but I think there is more to it than that.

I lost interest in Dooku as a character as soon as he lit up his saber - but if he had to be seen with one at all I would say blue - as in one that he'd kept from his Jedi days.

Having a radical colour would seem to imply that he'd want to show it off - make people associate him with that colour. But he still seems to want to hide his past and only use his saber when he's cornered. - he seemed relieved when Jango stepped in to defend him in the arena.

Really, he should have been able to talk his way out of any situation.

Luke has obtained a rank always denied Vader when he was a Jedi.

I think you forget there is nobody left to deny Luke, regardless of whether something is appropriate he's going by his own judgement now. ;)

Xbox 360 or PS3 - Which is better? - Advice......
Time

I bought my PS3 slim foremost as a bluray player for two reasons - firstly it was actually cheaper than any unit i could find [by almost 100 dollars] and secondly from fear that said units may have issue staying up to spec.

Now i could be wrong about this but I just don't know what the future holds so it seems to have been the safest option.

Add in expensive hardware upgrades (having to buy proprietary hard drives that cost a fortune) and the need to buy a "premium" system just to get an HDMI port until recently, and you have one of the worst consoles, hardware wise, to ever grace the market. All models of the PS3 have allowed you to drop in just about any 2.5" hard drive as a replacement and they've all had HDMI from day one.

Hold on, This can be a two way street. I just shelled out for a BD remote to the tune of $40. and about the same for HDMI and other cables.

My Xbox came boxed with a remote control, a headset and a rather long ethernet cable.

The PS3 is STILL a more expensive console even after slashing the pice by 1/3 [here in Australia]. If you want to talk about costs and values lets be fair.

Aside from that i'd like to just echo what C3PX said.
