@ Xhonzi, learn to read ;) Those are my examples of cheesy fun and NOT what makes for a good musical - you may recall that we were discussing people not liking musicals. I offer such suggestions as something that may be less off-putting to such people.

@ Warbler - I ask because a lot of people were very vocal and negative toward the newer BSG before they knew a single thing about it.

now, to not like something is everyone's choice but would you be willing to give it a go in the mindset that it's something totally different. - pretending for a moment that it's got nothing to do with a show that came before.

New starbuck is not old starbuck sans testicles, it's a different character - jsut an homage on the name, as done with several others - adama, tigh, boomer, etc.

DOOM: knee deep in the edit. (* unfinished project *)
Time

Is that an order, captain? ;)

I've been intending to do just that for a while, just been waiting til things are at a point that i'm satisfied.

If i have the energy, I might start one later today then slowly populate it with media.

and yeah the film isn't as bad as people say - the main issue seems to be that it feels like some other franchise not the DOOM we know.

For the two or three people that might be following this...

Here's where things are currently at -

I've removed about 30 minutes of dialogue from the film - but a bits here and there will need to be reworked and reinserted.

some recent concepts will stay, some are now redundant.

Here's a clip i created from the standard opening of a few games - I had to blur the hell out of this thing just to hide all the jagged edges - the source is like 256x256.

and here's an attempt at a fairly unified set of titles that look bold AND interesting. A lot of things I've tried just haven't worked - I also tried using the font from the games but it's just to ugly, although I may find a purpose for it.

I've almost finished processing the entire film to look that way I want - kinda retro and kinda neglected. It takes a long time...

I've also been working hard on the idea that binds it all together - somewhat similar to watchmen there will be a sub story within the main story - told in a sort of motion comic form - this is where the classic episode titles come into play, the segments are sprinkled throughout - partly to fatten out the running time and partly to bridge story ideas between the various games and the film - as well as retcon a few ideas. [the sub story segments will always relate to what is currently going on]

One of the main ideas I'm kicking around is that the antagonist of the film is the protagonist of the sub story - Curtis Stahle. He winds up on Phobos - travels to Deimos [in hell] - returns victorious - volunteers for the C24 experiment. - and tweaks in the films plot line will accommodate this.

In the end this movie will never be great, I'm just aiming to make it fun.

I know this is better left to your "Putting Faces to Names" thread, but seriously dude, are you actually this badass? I mean, going off your new profile pic I can totally see that face casually standing in a swarm of bees, on a motorcycle, drinking from a bottle of wine while hitting a home run.

Hah, I was about to say something very similar. ^ somebody needs to paint a portrait of this.

His name was Anchorhead, seven feet tall he was with arms like tree trunks. His eyes were like steel: cold, hard....

I knew about this place for a bit before I signed up. It was an interest in Fanedits - particularly SW:ANH that really led me here and at around that time Zigfried was running rampant - but like a trainwreck you just couldn't turn away.

Then Adywan started discussing plans for Star Wars: Revisited and I found myself logging in more and more often. Now I generally check in any time I get online. which can be several times a day.

I rarely start new topics, just floating around like a leaf on the wind keeping tabs on everyone and having a bit of fun.

Been playing Red Dead Redemption a bit lately. This is actually the first Open World game I've played. Not a big fan of the genre, but the game is loads of fun. Can't wait til I'm comfortable enough with the controls to try the Zombie Pack.

I've never ever felt compelled to complete a GTA game, always losing interest. But RDR had me glued the entire time.

I've not been on in a while but the multiplayer was always horribly buggy in the early days. Although usually you can jump into free roam with friends without too much trouble. This usually devolves into shooting out each others horses, though. - and laughing like idiots. :)

I was listening to the soundtrack at work today and it's make me want to jump in and play again.

If I can find the time, maybe we'll go raid some canyons or something...

I can't praise FRINGE enough. As I recall I wasn't really too interested in the idea when it first started and only started playing catch up as the first season was coming to a close.

more people need to watch FRINGE. I mean people loved the x-files and here is a show that started out much the same and becomes much stronger as it goes on. - and x-files ran for like 10 years.

I was watching a BSG commentary recently and they were talking about how easy it is to lose people in the audience who then go off an watch something else, or instances where people drift in and out of shows.

I find it hard to picture how people can be so fickle, I mean yes a show needs to really step up and engage and entertain you but when some people are barely paying attention it must get frustrating.

FRINGE is a fun ride and I love how even when they resort to a 'monster of the week' type story they find a way to further the overall plot of the show.

in the end, they need to wrap things up in a satisfying way, whatever happens. Lost ended poorly, BSG ended well [IMO] but people still had mixed feelings about it...
