Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time

Got a Kinect last week - been playing with UFC trainer which has been a good bit of fun. I'm really not a fan of the UFC in general but the game seems to have some good content. It certainly gets the heart beating.

Also got kinect adventures which is very bland - it was a freebie and Child of Eden - another freebie - which I haven't had much of a look at let but seems to be be pretty decent - it's a sort of flashy colourful shooter.

Played through RAGE and was really enjoying it until the sudden and disappointing ending. The game really feels like it's building toward something and then suddenly you're watching the end credits roll. There's a faction called the Authority that is meant to be the 'big bad' but they barely make an appearance. A few more missions at least would have been nice.

I barely had a chance to use some of the cool stuff i was constructing like turrets and fancy ammo types.

There's a weapon called the wing stick that is a lot of fun - basically a bladed boomerang that will take someone's head clean off.

The sheer size and complexity of the game world are strikes against it since the modding community wont be able to keep the game fresh for years to come as has been the case in the past - Developments should be interesting...

I've got mixed feelings about the game, there are pros and cons but it can be a lot of fun in the early stages.

Looks like some sort of forced perspective. I just realised you guys share initials...what else have you been sharing at your secret rendezvous?

I've met fellow board member RocondilRinon in the flesh but we aren't in any pics together. maybe next time.

G+ could be an interesting idea.

Not those pills frink....the ones at the bottom ;)

they are both AMC shows so it could well have been a shout out or maybe purely a joke.

My geographic knowledge of North America might be a little rusty but isn't Atlanta a bit of a distance from Albuquerque? - Although Merle did/does seem like the kind of guy who would partake. Hope he shows up again at some point.

I didn't think a whole lot of the season opener but this weeks episode was much better - the season break should have been between this episode and the last.

Hopefully things pick up, it's a story with a lot of potential.

"Big Trouble in Little China"

Very fun 80's film. Lot's of people just don't get the joke, but I'm glad I do.

Always fun.

Which FanFiltration? Little ol’ basket case on wheels, or the ten-foot-tall roadblock?! that i hit with my truck.

Wishful Drinking. [Carrie Fisher stage show]

I kinda hoped for a longer run time - I'm sure she could have talked a lot more on some of the subjects but it was entertaining and laugh out loud funny at times.

The Walking Dead Season Premiere

The actors seem to have gotten much better. That was my only problem with season one. That and the awful CGI explosion. I never thought we'd get a GOOD episodic zombie series. It's a dream come true.

Also, Chris Hardwick of the Nerdist Podcast hosting the aftershow "The Talking Dead" Haven't watched it yet but I expect it to be nothing less than awesome.

The only thing that would make this better is a zombie Gustavo Fring.

spoiler tag that shit!!

FRINGE - I'm a big fan but it's been pretty dull this season, looks like things are about to pick up a bit.

Nobody puts xhonzi on page 2.

I finished Deus Ex3 too early and now it's a bit of a wait until the next game I wanna play - RAGE. Granted it's not long now, a bit over a week or so.

I thought about getting Dead Island but I've heard it's not that good - and a bit glitchy - can anyone vouch for it? it looks like fun but I dunno if it's worth getting brand new...

Watched a bunch of stuff across the weekend. -

Hawaii Five-0 [season premiere] - 4 balls. as always.

Fringe [season opener] - 2 balls. Fun but a lack of Peter in the show brings it down a bit.

Person of Interest [Pilot Episode] - 2 balls. has potential but pretty weak start. I kinda predicted things that were going to happen and the concept seems a little too far fetched for the setting.

Charlie's Angels - [pilot episode] - 1 ball - Could be good but again - very weak start. This things needs to be re-tooled immediately if they want it to last. shortcomings include the fact that Bosly is now a 'hacker' - which in hollywood terms means he can acess ANY bit of informatino they need just using an iPad. The original Bosley makes a very brief [non speaking] cameo.

The idea this time around is that Charlie hires ex-criminals, ie: cat burglars et al to be his 'angels' - could be good but it's too much like the films - all style no substance.

Two and a half men [sans charlie sheen] 0 balls - this was horrible - if the show continues in this vein it will probably see cacellation - and should.

The killed off the Character of Charlie Harper then proceeded to mock him in a way that is mean spirited and not at all funny - obvious jabs at Sheen himself. And they really didn't give Ashton much to work with so it still feels like there's a big hole in the show.

Fresh Meat [Pilot] 1 ball. britcom / dramedy...not as good as it could be but liking it so far.

Clone Wars [season 4 opener] 1 ball - not a lot happens until the end, just the setup for the rest of the story ark probably. Animation keeps looking batter and better.

Idea: for a 'Jurassic Park: The Grindhouse Edition'
Time

yeah, i was going to suggest maybe trying to make the dinosaur scenes look jerky like stop motion - that might be a lot of work - might be a simple as dropping video frames.

A Ray Harryhausen sort of look...maybe trim out a few shots of humans and dinosaurs in shots together - give it a bit of an awkward sort of feel like king kong.

the 'missing reel' idea seems like a bit of a cheap gag - it was funny in planet terror but i dunno if it'd work here...

maybe you could incorporate a few bits from JP2 and order it a bit more like the original Chrichton story?

On the whole I like the idea - you just have to be careful not to 'beat peaople over the head' with certain things - for example, I saw a Grindhouse style edit of Mortal Kombat [can't remember who did it] and it was quite well done but they'd used a loop of the same white scratch effect for pretty much the whole film and it became very distracting.

- i do deninitely like the idea of more film distress as something violent is about to happen - that was a technique that worked quite wel on planet terror.

I just want to say everybody here sucks for not liking and playing the games I like and play and leaving nobody for me to talk to about them.

That is all.

P.S. The next game I will be purchasing is Rage. In the interest of not sucking, buy it.

I too will be purchasing RAGE.

I wouldn't expect xhonzi to be joining us in the 'not sucking' - he's far too much of a bargain hunter. [although I'm certain he could trade in a stack fo terrible games for it...]

Actually really looking forward to RAGE now, after watching a whole bunch of videos. Looks like a lot of fun with a sense of adventure. - unlike the dark corridor shooters of past.

Considering possibly getting it on PC [now that i have a decent one] but might just cave and get it for 360.

Was that another improvisation? Would explain why it's gone, that's for sure. I'd bet if he had the time and method he'd switch "I know" to "I love you, too."

But you know that he would leave in the same exchange in ROTJ just to make it even more terrible.

it could of been my Blu ray player seeing as how its been on the frits. But i don't remember hearing that line in there. I'm dissapointed that GL didn't add more to it then take away. At least get rid of the blue tint in the movie.

I see it more like...

Han said:

Leia said:

I love you

I know.

I knoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow.

What model is your Player, Ziggy? - I'm using a ps3 [the slim one] and generally find Blurays take a while to initially load and sometimes getting between menues.

The Star Wars BDs take a bit of time but i wouldn't call it unusual in my experience...

I've only looked briefly at discs 7 and 9 so far. The 'spoofs' segment was a bit of a waste - i was expecting something more like a documentary but it's just a montage of scenes from here and there - and there's a LOT of good stuff that could / should have been included - even in place of some of the bland stuff that was there...

The prequel deleted scens from what I saw were just the scraps that weren't even worth including on the dvd sets.

aside from those i've just had a quick glance at things and watched the 'conversations with the masters' [or whatever]. I was expecting a lot more from that too. I wish they'd spent a LOT more time with Kershner and Kasdan.

I think the only good thing to come from Steven King is the Kubrick's interpretation of The Shining, and Steven King hated it!

Do the names Frank Darabont and Rob Reiner mean anything to you?

Or the name Stephen King?

Touché. I Keep meaning to watch Straw Dogs but keep getting sidetracked - the one with Dustin Hoffman. maybe tomorrow. anyone seen it?

Last watched was Psycho Beach Party - which I thought might be fun but turned out to be really really boring.

Also watched the American Grindhouse doco. Bit of an eye opener - Don't watch it while you're eating dinner ;)

re: zombieland - it was kind of a case of 'all there in the trailer' - I wanted to like it but there wasn't really that much to it.
