Janek fills Vickers in? - isn't the movie already R rated? something odd about some of the titles - like it's too good to be true - the engineer speaks?, seems almoat like a combination of wishful thinking and leaked concept details..

As much as I hated the film, I'm curious to see how it could have played out and if there's any hope of patching it up - it's just a shame that they dress differently every time they leave the ship.

Hopefully there's a lot of content in good condition. 5 minutes and change seems like a long runtime for a deleted scene - maybe those are a hyrid of deleted and existing footage?

I remain hopeful yet skeptical.

Melancholia.

No balls.

I really wanted to like this film but in the end it just feels like wasted potential. The ending is shown in the opening moments off the film so for a lot of it you are just watching characters either doing absolutely nothing or just being dicks to each other.

The movie does have great visuals but that is all it really has going for it and there's a great cast but they just have nothing to do.

What are you reading?
Time

Right now I'm reading 'The secret history of Star Wars' - not sure which edition it is but I've spotted quite a few typos...otherwise it's quite good so far.

Planning to start reading 'from the mountains of madness' after hearing a fair bit about it recently. - I read a synopsis and it sounds interesting. Anyone read it? - no spoilers please.

The Dark Knight Rises.

it was good...but not as good as TDK, sadly.

For a BATMAN movie there really isn't very much BATMAN in it. on the whole it feels like there's something missing [other than BATMAN], the story moves from scene to scene without feeling like anything is really connected..

2 balls.

Tron:U is a bit of fun. reminds me too much of Batman Beyond, though.

I enjoyed the first episode quite a bit. Yes, I agree that connecting the two movies is a bit hard and this seems to be going at making it even more difficult...

Everyone's legs are too long, and I was surprised at the innuendo, such that it was.

Batman Beyond successfully made someone else Batman... who else can claim that?

I'm Batman

Watched the whole first season of suits to play catch up. I like it. I like it a lot.

Also started re-watching Titus with a friend who's never seen it. Great show that!

The Newsroom - They managed to make a really compelling show out of something I find incredibly boring - the evening news.

agreed - and no word of an extended version of the film, at least the documentaries sound extensive. maybe we'll get an understanding of what the movie was meant to be..

as much as I enjoyed the 3d element of the film it really felt like overkill, like David watching Lawrence of Arabia in 3d and the holograms in Vickers quarters in 3d. Hopefully the bonus features will be available in a 2d only version as well.

I'm not sure if I like the idea of Vickers being an android.

I quite like the idea of her acting like one because that's what her father responds better to (a human making herself in the image of an android made in the image of humanity).

It might be fun to reveal that there is more than one David on board by compositing footage from one scene into another.

That way we could have a 'nicer David' who is interested in humanity and a more literally obedient slave who spikes Holloway's drink etc.

There could be a bit of ambiguity at the end regarding which one Shaw has left with.

What's odd is the way she slams David up against the wall, when we see him show off superhuman strength. Maybe she just caught him off guard?

The clip of Shaw is a pretty different aspect ratio to the actual film - pretty tall. Not sure how you'd include it. Maybe side by side but that might be overkill - 4 Shaws...

- there will probably be more viral clips released before the bluray, we've seen two since release already. Weyland muttering to himself and some doctor talking about the magical properties of the medpod.

Also noticed the date on the clip is 2079 - that would make sure about 18 at the time. That also means they've been hounding Weyland for years and probably had quite a few discoveries at that point.

I would think that she probably wouldn't have learned that she couldn't have children until she tried, but they never really explore that idea. not in any interesting way, anyhow. Would she really be planning the family in the middle of travelling the globe digging through caves? and in 2079 she should be too young to be concerned with such things..

it really does feel like they threw ideas into a hat and pulled them out randomly.

Somebody said the other day that the creatures in the film all seems to have features we'd identify with marine life / sea creatures. I hadn't really thought about it until then. The chestburster has a fin, the snake / worm has a hammerhead, there's a squid...

I wonder if it's an indication of a radically changed setting or just an interesting design concept..

This dream was brought to you by - Weyland Corp.

have Shaw's phone call to Weyland play as Vickers' dream

This is an interesting idea if coupled with the intent to present Vickers as an Android - Given that the clip is clearly some sort of computerized analysis. The Yutani branding could also imply that maybe she's a double agent of sorts? Might add some context to her 'agenda'

I did a little tinkering to get an effect like we see in Shaw's dream but haven't quite got decent results. In the end I'd probably ditch that scene anyway / maybe replace it with something else - although I did like Patrick Wilson as the dad...I kinda felt like he was only there so you feel upset later when David talks about him...it felt kinda awkward. isn't Ebola rare these days? - and the character would have to have died somewhere after approx 2070. - haven't done the proper math [assuming Shaw is the same age as Noomi Rapace - 32 and he was a live when she was a young girl]

Although that brings up another interesting point - does age matter in a story where characters routinely use stasis?

I was also thinking about using the 2033 clip as an alternate main title sequence - maybe adding some wierd filtering to appear to be poorly preserved archival footage, kinda like a movie set now using stock footage from the 1950's. maybe something like this -

I'd definitely remove the original opening / title reveal for a few reasons -

1 - it's not interesting to me to see characters speculating / debating things that we've already seen presented as fact

2 - i dislike that the title sequence mimicks the first film. The other films in the saga have interesting title sequences and it feels like a rehash.

3 - the character of the selfless engineer seems at odds with everything else we see in the film.

one thing is for certain - there will be a lot of fanedits of Prometheus. It will be interesting to see what the extended cut brings.

do we know for certain that Xhonzi has many kids?
If Frink has been in his kitchen, we can assume Frink knows how many children are fed in that kitchen. ;-)

I know that he has x many children and I haven't been in his kitchen. [*cough* Facebook] Why would [any of] you have any reason to not trust him? So yeah, we know for certain but that doesn't even matter - He's made a choice to post less often.
