Did anyone buy Colonial Marines? I've been looking at youtube clips and reviews and it looks to be an absolute trainwreck. Interestingly, some of the stuff they showed while the game was in development looks far superior to the final product. I'm pretty curious about what went on behind the scenes...
Bioshock is out in 3 and a bit weeks. wooo! Might have to revisit the others beforehand.

Some of it is stupid fun - the rest is just stupid. A fun movie about Nazis hiding on the moon becomes an awkward movie about american politics [the president is a parody of Sarah Palin]...
You've seen the best part of it.

Well, they considered doing it with the ' 426' in Roman numerals - So it would be LV IV II VI - A logo like that would be much better suited to the 'Alien' style slow reveal of the title.
Should be simple enough to mock up something like that..

no, Ditch "Prometheus" entirely. I've had similar ideas about how it could be LV 426 and it WAS one of the titles considered for the film...before the dark times, before Lindeloff ;)
It seems like all of the problems with the film come from taking what was a direct prequel to Alien and trying to make it into something else.

grr, Same controller layout that I hated 4 playstations ago. I guess Sony and I are just never going to be on the same page.
Although the PS3 is a beast of a media device - I love it for that - to the point where I just can't see the PS4 offering enough to entice me to trade up. And Sony exclusive games that interest me are few and far between...
The current Gen are still pumping out quality titles, launch titles on the new Gen systems will probably wont be spectacular..
/rant.
Had a bit of a play of The Walking Dead from Telltale Games. Not too far in but good fun. Cartoon-y visual style but overall good mood / atmosphere..

Cloud Atlas
My only real complaint is that it's overly long, with 6 separate stories on offer the movie clocks in just under 3 hours.
It's also distracting when you see the cast playing six or seven different characters each and things like Hugo Weaving as a Korean man just don't look quite right - The parts are generally well acted, though [unlike when Eddie Murphy plays 7 different characters..]
I would be interested in a version that follows the structure of the novel. The movie tends to weave between the various stories randomly - it is done well though, The story flows and I never felt disoriented.
3 balls.

Pizza Hut gingerbread men.
80s Pizza Hut in general. I miss the old logo, the myriad hut shaped restaurants, the red & white tablecloths, the placemats with puzzles on them and the little red pencils, the gingerbread men, submarine sandwiches with potato chips...
I only ever got to go to one full Pizza Hut restaurant. It was pretty cool, I wish they'd kept some of those around. Like a Shakey's, only better pizza.
Nostalgia overload...except sub sandwiches, never had those there.
Pizza Hut today is an embarrassment, but in the 80's they were awesome.

Stephen King's The Dark Tower - the complete concordance by Robin Furth.
Started out as a reference book while he was writing the latter books in the series, got expanded with some anecdotes and whatnot. Got this one with some xmas money..Big DT fan.
Year of the Black Rainbow by Claudio Sanchez
part of the backstory woven through the albums of Coheed and Cambria. Technically, the first part of the story - but now there's a prequel story / album and side stories...also partly reading it to pass time until the new album comes out on the 5th of Feb.
Argo by Antonio Mendez
Thought I'd have a look through this after seeing the movie twice.
Prometheus script - by Jon Spaights [again]
marvelling at the fun ride that the movie could have been rather than the trainwreck it is.
also been listening to an audiobook [in the car] of the walking dead - the road to woodbury. I like it so far. Not sure who wrote it, I think Kirkman had a hand in it though..

re: Fringe - I was disappointed in the end. it Did end the way I expected, but not the way I wanted.
Walter telling Peter it was all a paradox [paraphrasing] felt like hand waving by the writers.
I stuck with the show until the end but in hindsight i should have stopped watching after season 3. It was fun to see them tie in some things but I never cared for the future time period storyline. To me, the show was much more fun when it was mostly a 'monster of the week' type show.

If you're into Doom, I'd highly recommend this - http://stronghold.drdteam.org/
"You know Doom, it is always the same, get some weapons, infiltrate the destroyed UAC base or demon hive, kill all the monsters and hellspawn and find the exit switch. This was Doom... until now: Stronghold is a mixture of Unreal Tournament's Assault mode and Skulltag's Invasion mode. Defend your Stronghold against hundreds of monsters, divided into several waves. Earn points, get rewards between waves and let no single enemy pass!"
Finally finished Farcry 3.
pros
- the weapons are a lot of fun. shooting somebody with a flare gun never gets old!
- securing enemy bases
- hunting and crafting
- the glider!
cons
- story is boring and tedious
- quicktime events
- protagonist is a douchebag

Heard about a mod for Doom [old doom] and grabbed a copy. It's called Brutal Doom and it certainly lives up to the name. Not for the faint of heart.
It's a novelty that wears off but it's a good bit of fun. There were moments where i'd actually painted the walls with blood during a firefight, the screen also gets splattered.
The character is much more in the badass / dickhead style ala duke nukem - you can insult monsters verbally or flip them off.
The monters are also a lot more agressive - i saw a demon actually ear a zombie head-to-toe.
There are a fair few improvements and enhancements to the gameplay but in the end it's mainly a splatter-fest.
if you don't mind a bit of gore i'd recommend it for five minutes or so..

The Hobbit -
Not entirely sure how I feel about this one. I did like a lot of the extra padding but in the end that's all it was - there are many scenes the did nothing for the story.
It's also hard to judge given that it's just a part of the story and some of my favourite characters haven't shown up yet.
I feel that they did a very poor job of identifiying the various Dwarves to the audience - at least half of them were reduced to pure background status.
Most disappointing was Thorin. He was well played but I just didn't recognise the character.
right now i'd say 2.5 balls pending a second viewing. I'll be more forgiving if the Necromancer stuff pays off later.
Django Unchained - [the D is silent ;)]
Now this was a fun movie, and you can tell they had fun making it. They characters are great and the scenery is amazing.
in short, it's about a slave turned bounty hunter on a quest to rescue his wife from slavers. It's a Western in the South in 1858.
The film is peppered with Tarantino's trademark brutality so not for the faint of heart but I had a great time watching this film.
Bonus points for Quentin Tarantino cameo.
4 balls.

Yeah, I agree with Akwat. In the movie he comes off as a major douchebag from the start. Where in the book I thought he was really likeable until the end.
That's intreresting. He always seemed like an asshole to me. I want him to be an asshole in the film, cuz that's the way I always viewed the character. Hoping to see it asap.

I was hoping to see the Hobbit tonight but had to postpone due to my friend breaking a toe [she ran over her own foot with a shopping trolley] - yeah, I laughed too.
For those that have seen the film, is it true that Thorin is much less of a douchebag than he is in the book?
For now I'm listening to the soundtrack. Good fun so far.
The last movie I saw was Dredd [the one with Karl Urban]
it suuuuuuuuucked. zero balls. This movie has no redeeming features. there's a fair amount of gore and action but there's nothing compelling about the story or characters. As poor an adaptation as the previous attempt. Maybe third times a charm? ;)

Seriously though - I'd love to catch up. I am yet to tackle the campaign on Legendary - They've cranked the difficulty up a bit on this one, Although part of the learning curve is what gear to use in certain situations...
re: Hotline:Miami - I hear good things!
Got a chance to play some of the new Rage DLC...Remember Rage? no? well the DLC is good fun - it's called the Scorchers and follows one of the wasteland clans.
There's new characters, a cool new weapon = The Nailgun which can also fire lengths of rebar that pin enemies to walls and also transforms into a railgun that can see enemies and fires through walls.
