Is anyone else here frozen with ridiculous anticipation for the Oculus Rift.  I didn't order one, but should be able to see one a week or so after they start shipping.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to order one then.

Which... brings me back to Bioshock.  If I already had a next gen console, it would be harder not to drop $60 on it.  But I don't, and I don't have a gaming PC that would do it justice.  But if

1. I get a Rfit

2. Inifinite supports Rift

3. I get a beefy PC to match my Rift...

Then I'll get Infinite for PC.  Splinter Cell 5 be darned.

shut up and give them your money!

Which them*?  Irrational or Oculus?  I just noticed the other day... I guess I am a Rift Kickstarter backer... so they have some of my money...

I wonder if I pre-order a Rift now that they will credit me back the $1 I kickstarted them?

Irrational.

The Hunger Games. After seeing and hating the film I was wondering if the book really was that bad. Turns out it's actually pretty good. finished part 1, on to part 2.
I love that even though you didn't like the film, you still decided to give the books a shot.

Well, It's made me hate the film even more. But I'm digging the books..

SIX MORE DAYS!!!

Starting to get very desperate to get my Xbox back.

FIVE DAYS over here. The perks of being 1 day in the future..[or close enough to]

Is anyone really developing for the Rift outside of John Carmack? - Cool if so but I haven't really heard much of anything.

Botwiki.

I saw that....and that.

Just got to a point in Sim City where my City is actually getting interesting...and I've filled the entire map :(

On the up side, EA have offered me a free game for my [sim city server] troubles. I chose Dead Space 3. It'll take about a while to download on my sad connection but hey - a free game is a free game :)

wrapping up other unfinished games while waiting for BIOSHOCK. Getting back into the DOOM 3 [bfg edition] extra missions. Might try taking the 64bit version of RAGE for a spin if i have the time. Thinking about grabbing the RAGE mod tools but it looks to be a pretty hefty download :(

Hasn't anyone else played The Walking Dead yet?

I swear to God, I'll pistol whip the next person who says 'Botwiki'.

So, I picked up a copy of Sim City. I'ts generally good fun although lacking a few features I was expecting. Overall, a good game but nothing all that special.

That said, the game totally deserves all of the negative press it's got from the absolute cluster-fuck of a release. To play the game at all you need to be constantly connected to the Maxis servers. Problem is that the servers constantly crash or are taken offline for maintenance - this happens even after they upgraded from an initial 8 servers to over 20.

Apparently I'll be entitled to a free game from the EA catalogue for my troubles, at least.

The part I don't get is that they claimed that they were unprepared for the amount of players. Now my math may not be the best but if you produce and ship [and sell!] X amount of units - shouldn't you expect X amount of customers?

[/rant]

Really looking forward to Bioshock Infinite...

@Bingo

I'm pretty sure you can't even buy the 'fragile' xbox 360 anymore. Stores that do trade-ins are refusing to accept those older models now. At least around my parts. The newer models seems pretty rock solid.  It's also much quieter than the older models. No idea re: ps3.

Ultimately, are there any Playstation exlusive games that you want? If not, then probably go an xbox.

If you've got a ps2 then yo might be more at home with a ps3 but in terms of Gaming I find things to be fairly awkward. like trying to play online with friends..

@ xhonzi, I have a feeling that the 'new' mistakes will be along the lines of DRM.

Blam -

I know it's a bit different, still playing with ideas.

http://postimage.org/gallery/acvu9ghm/08001709/ - see here for more, i saved a copy at each stage of tweakage.

I have ideas of how this could look ANIMATED [maybe each square as a flickering light, etc] but it's a lot of work for a rough concept. If you wanna go with something like this we can talk / tweak..

And something completely different - just because I'm really digging the idea of black and white -

Basically My idea is to begin [after the fox logo] with a brief prologue showing Shaw emerge from beneath the derelict [;)] and the some shots of her wandering around in despair - then we hear some of her final log - distorted which begins to fragment and morph into the signal Ripley listens to aboard the Nostromo - this sound then crossfades into the sound of applause and then suddenly we're looking at young Peter Weyland.

Towards the end of his [cut down] speech we are introduced to david - less some of the over the top "this is a commercial" style segments - Blending some of the footage of him aboard the ship alone with promo stuff, playing chess with himself - keep things a bit vague and don't show anything related to the mission - ie: learning the Engineers language [save that for later on]

Only when the ship approaches the planet do we realise - don't show any exterior shots until he opens up the viewscreen in orbit.

The problem here is that we probably need the Hangar briefing scene to explain what the hell is going on - but it might work sans old man Weyland [;)]

Extreme fast forward >>

the derelict falls to the surface and crushes Shaw. black out. Flashback to [cut down] isle of sky segment - "I think they want us to come find them" [or whatever]...then possibly cut back to Weyland talking about human achievement - "We are the GODS now" or some such.

the idea needs some refining and I'm not sure if the resources are available as cleanly as i'd like. And i'm not sure if the idea as a whole works as neatly in context.

I've got a few other 'out there' ideas, thinking back to speculation based solely on the first teaser trailer, but dunno if that stuff is viable. I might take a stroll through the supplimental materials again. - there's a lot of documentary footage on the BD set that looks as good as the actual film.

Now i need to watch your most recent stuff again to remember just what you've done already..

And maybe we should look more to the leviticus passages for editing ideas / inspiration. I didn't try anything visually with the 'LV426 - Leviticus 4:26' yet - it would be cool to fit that stuff in, either in plot or text.

EDIT - A little more that I forgot to post - [that i thought was interesting]

Acheron (LV-426) is one of three known moons orbiting theCalpamos, which is located in the Zeta II Reticuli system, 39 light years away from Earth. The moon is christened by human colonists as Acheron.

http://avp.wikia.com/wiki/Acheron_(LV-426)

AKHERON (or Acheron), the river of pain, was a stream and swampy lake of the underworld and its god. The daimon Kharon ferried the souls of the dead across its dark waters in a skiff.

I had a bit of an idea for the ending but I'll need to re-watch some scenes and see if it's possible. If it is, it might also be a nice way of bringing the start and end together nicely.

along the lines of Shaw circa the crash and Weyland circa 2033.

EDIT -

hold on - let me slap something together in photoshop. i saved the layers separate..

the font is called MIZU by the way. You can get it here -

I think you might be onto something here. see also Leviticus 22.3 - also, it sounds cool. I think the LV naming was more Jim Cameron than Ridley Scott but thinking back, some of the film did have strong religious overtones - alien3, Alien4 also, iirc - Holloway in the original script (before he became the douchebag we know) quoted sveral bible passages. I should look those up..

It's a shame about the comuter-esque filtering [maybe something could be done about that..] but a dream she has about death and what happens after might be a fitting way to end the character - after apparently being crushed by the Alien vessel...Maybe she wakes up later in a post credit sequence. That leaves the door open for the sequel.

Haven't really thought it through but I've been considering the possibility of Janek ejecting the lifeboat with Shaw still inside - which may or may not work. If the end part of the story is going under the knife anyway then there's no reason to not consider radical ideas, I guess.

re: the titles, I like the idea of changing the name, i dislike the idea of copying the style of the Alien main title. I do kind of like the broken / distorted transmission aesthetic and I was inspired to do a little tinkering after browsing this particular website - http://rob-sheridan.com/main.php#/IMAGES/ANALOG%20GLITCH/1/

These are merely ideas, mucking about in photoshop. Not entirely sure what would work best for the film but it's better to have it's own identity.

The other main idea I've been playing with is doing the whole film in black and white - but i dunno if you'd be interested in going that route.

I’m a big fan of Tom Cruise and I watched “wars of the worlds”. This was my 5th time. I really love the movie, climax and the ultimate action of tom cruise.

Sorry guys, I gotta respond to this..

The only scene in war of the worlds [sic] worth a damn is when Tom Cruise' character throws a slice of bread against the kitchen window [in a rage] and it sticks there. The rest of the thing is a complete clusterfuck.

wasted Morgan Freeman, was wasted!

Last movie seen - ALIENS and also bits of Alien3 Assembly cut on Bluray.

Zombie Games?

So, I've never seen more than a couple of episodes of the Clone Wars series that Lego Star Wars III is based on, so as I played through the game I kind of had to guess the storyline, but there were several levels where I was killing endless hoards of zombies that would come up out of the ground. Maybe they weren't really zombies, but translated into Lego, they were just as zombies.

iirc it was a parasite but essentially it's victims became zombies. It was kinda strange for Star Wars..

Finished The Walking Dead. really good game. Zipperlips..

Looking forward to Sim City on Thursday and then Bioshock just before Easter..There's a lot of new stuff coming out this month but I think I'll pull a xhonzi and ignore a lot of it for a while. Tomb Raider looks good but I might wait for a bit.

been reading a lot of the back and forth Re: gearbox and colonial marines. I'm fascinated with this particular trainwreck.

As much as I love the idea, the clip ends kind of abruptly. And the other issue is that in ALIENS it is strongly implied that the derelict is not FROM LV-426.

some clever tweaking might be able to smooth that out..

perhaps after Shaw and Vickers get crushed [sic], we see a brief montage of shots of the derelict lifted from ALIEN and ALIENS and then end on the failed survey mission that doomed the colony in ALIENS, ie: a shot of Newt screaming..?

And I'd still really like to play Borderlands 2 and Far Cry 3 eventually.

I was underwhelmed by both of those. There's just something off [to me] about BL2 - it's kinda just 'the same / again' but without the charm of BL1. and the missions in FC3 feel like a boring distraction from the free roaming...

Finishing up on TWD season 1 before Bioshock comes out. Anyone else played it? I'm tempted to run through it again and make different choices..

Been looking at a bunch of stuff on Bungie's upcoming game - 'Destiny'. Still not quite sure what to make of it, looks like it will be interesting but I'm really not sure about the whole 'persistent gameworld/pseudo MMO style of it all..

Maybe a group of Engineers return to earth in the present day?

iirc, The Spaights script ended in a way that implied that more Engineers would arrive soon to lv223

This might be a good time to go reading those fake fan scripts and see if anyone had a decent idea for an ending?
