It [Red Dwarf] will NEVER be what it once was...But series 10 is far better than 9 / Back to Earth. I really didn't like 9 at all but I've watched a few episodes from 10 more than once. That said, there are still some dull moments.

Anyone seen the Brittas empire? [another Chris Barrie show] - been catching eps on youtube. Used to watch it wayyyy back.

re: life on Mars - I've been meaning to check it out but never really got around to it yet. It comes highly recommended by a few friends.

Lately I've been watching a mix of stuff, The only thing I've really been keeping up to speed on is The Venture Bros. I love that show...maybe too much.

Also been watching eps of Man vs Food on youtube.

Picked up TLOU. I've played through a bit - I'm in the school with Bill.

It's about as i'd expected so far - having played Uncharted games in the past. It kinda feels like a mashup of those and The Walking Dead [game].

I find the guns to be a bit awkward and clumsy but that is probably more to do with the controller in general. The melee combat is fine and I usually rely heavily on that when not sneaking.

Re: Bill - Yeah Ellie was a jerk to him but I find her to be a jerk in general. Maybe she is meant to just be a product of her environment - a child without proper discipline or role models.

As for the theft, I don't think things like posession would carry the same weight in a world like that - you'd get used to taking what you need and hoarding what you can use.

She took his things even after he [Bill] told her not to but she probably just wouldn't see anything wrong with what she did. Joel goes through houses raiding whatever he feels like.

You should have stayed for the ending.

Superman tells Lois, "I'm really hungry from all that fighting. Do you like pancakes?"

Lois responds, "I don't like pancakes. I love them. But all the roads are destroyed."

Superman then says, "Roads? Where we're going we don't need roads. Grab my arm, it's IHOP time."

Don't do that. They'll believe that.

I liked it, But then I really wasn't looking forward to another token Superman film. I guess it pushed the right buttons for me and didn't for a lot of you guys.

Sure the film has flaws - product placement, lens flares, underwritten characters...But I loved the design of a lot of the stuff and had fun watching it.

Hard to recommend since it seems to really be hit and miss with people.

It would seem that big M have decided to take things seriously and get rid of the stupid online requirements and trade-in restrictions of the Xbox one.

Maybe they did the math and realized what a mistake it could be. Maybe they could call it the Xbox 180.

I'm starting to take an interest in the system now that it seems to be aimed at people like me. But I still think it's a bit early to launch the next gen systems - there's still fun to be had with the current gen.

It will be interesting to see SONY's reaction to this since they seemed to be winning over a lot of people annoyed with M's choices. Now the playing field has been levelled off a bit..

It's so Frinking cold here that I've literally been sitting by the heater all day watching sitcoms and britcoms and all kinds of 'coms. Arrested development - there are some great moments but a lot of the stories felt a bit flat. Tobias 'fantastic four' storyline was boring as fuck. Overall I had a good time and it was great to see everyone back - even guest characters.

Maybe Microsoft should have designed two devices - one for gaming and one for entertainment - with a way to link them up for an all-in-one experience.

Really not impressed with the details coming out. I don't mind the idea of the 360 being an all in one entertainment system but all those features should be optional. Sometimes I just wanna play games.

Pretty sure the actor and character is a woman [100%] but one of my friends did lean over and quote Lafayette from True Blood when she sat down. http://trueblood.wikia.com/wiki/Lafayette_Reynolds I think she did have a line at the end but i'm getting kinda hazy on the details. Really need to see it again. The bald guy at the back of the bridge did concern me though - He appears to be an android but looks far more real than DATA who was meant to be a technological marvel 100 years further in the future. Rule of cool, i guess. I might be wrong but I think Silverwook was referring to the gal with the raised lines on her face..

So...Spent about 6 hours on the bridge simulator game with a crew of 4. Ideally you'd want about 6 or 7. Takes a little while to get used to the interface as each station has unique options.

We rotated after each round so that everyone got a chance to sample the different roles. Playing as the captain can be a bit intimidating as you really have to keep tabs on everything. communication is key.

The most fun was probably helm control as it has the most basic layout and trying to fly evasively can be a blast.

We'll probably do it again very soon with a larger crew - or ideally, two crews ala Enterprise VS Reliant style gameplay.

on a sadder note - this came up in conversation afterwards - http://www.ign.com/blogs/splitmindeddude/2013/06/01/oculus-rift-engineer-dies-at-33

Orci: "I only want to be on Star Trek as long as I’m useful and helpful to what Star Trek is. The minute that I’m a burden on it, then I should not be here. I want the best idea to win. Hopefully, if this movie works, Paramount will be thinking about a third movie and, if I have the best idea, I should win. If I don’t, someone else should win. That’s how much I love Star Trek. The best idea should win, period."

Did he ask anyone besides Lindelof? He could have asked me...

I came up with a Star Trek 09 sequel where the Enterprise uses Spock Prime's knowledge of the future to preemptively meet V'ger thousands of light years from Earth. The Enterprise is seen as an infested organism like in the original, but in this timeline the ship is transported by V'ger to the machine planet that originally accepted Voyager, and Enterprise is given sentience to fulfill the mission that its crew is so unwilling to accomplish:

"To explore strange new worlds; to seek out new life forms and new civilizations; to boldly go where no man has gone before."

Therefore the crew is forced to deal with a ship that will go anywhere in the universe except for Earth and the planets of the Federation.

I think that it's a better story than KHAN! again.

How is Starfleet more militaristic than in any of the older films?

See: Any film where they're in the red uniforms, but especially the central conflict of ST:VI:TUC

Starfleet never actually engaged the Klingon's as a whole, only Enterprise/Excelsior fought a rogue General and prevented an assassination.

Also someone on the IMDB board noticed something strange. When Kirk and Spock are discussing being assigned as diplomats, there is a woman sitting in the background.

My theory is that it was Valeris in disguise, it's the only way she would've known about Kirk wanting the Klingons dead. Of course this may have been a mistake, but it explains a lot.

Uh...Several Starfleet Admirals conspired with the Klingons to assassinate Gorkon - Purely to keep the Federation and the Klingon high command apart. He was in fact killed by two STARFLEET officers.

And then they covertly planned to extradite Kirk and McCoy from Prison after [basically] promising Gorkon's daughter they would not. - She even states that such an act would be considered an act of war.

Valeris was standing right by Kirk's open doorway as he gave his whole spiel about never trusting Klingons and not being able to forgive them. Granted it seems too much of a co-incidence to be operating purely on that.

You should at least stick with TNG for a while. The general consensus is they didn't hit their stride until the third season. The first two seasons have their moments though.
I watched them for the first time this year on Blu-ray, and I think that TNG S1-2 are still in the valley started by TOS S3, and starts climbing back up the peak in TNG S3.

Yeah but in Tapestry you can see that they are wearing shirts -

- it just looks like he's naked under there..

Re: the torpedoes - I figured out what was in them before the crew did and waited for them to play catch up. Not that that bothered me. The Genesis connection never actually occurred to me.

Yes, but Kirk Sr. might have left some sort of recording made before his untimely death. (Maybe something Kirk's mom only recently gave to him?) It's been done in Trek before...

It was good that the events of the last movie cast a shadow on the plot. With Kirk and company finally off on the five year mission, I wonder if the aftermath of yet another rogue Starfleet admiral actions will cast it's own shadow.

I forgot to mention earlier that the Parents WERE in the film - When Jim hears their voices in his head - iirc there was no new dialogue though, Just clips from '09 Trek.

sidenote - Did / Does it bother anybody else that Crusher isn't wearing a shirt?

Hopefully the aftermath of Into Darkness' events will carry over but they kinda ended clean slate. Wasn't a year later or something when they head off at the end?

RE: Khan's magic blood and the sick girl / dead Kirk - that's why they had that awkward scene with the dead Tribble.

Would they really just put Khan back into deep freeze at the end if his blood was that powerful? - If section 31 were content to build a warship in secret i don't think they'd have any objection to siphoning him constantly.

RE: The Gorn reference - i think that was just another case of trying to make things sound exotic ala the cardassian sunrise last movie.

Deleted scenes maybe? - at least his Mom. Dad died with the Kelvin. Although they could [and should] bring in Hemsworth to play his adult brother.

Interesting that there wasn't some sort of public backlash [shown] after a the Vengeance crash. a warship built in secret crashlands into the middle of the city and eveyone is okay with that.

With the enterprise off to explore deep space it'd be interesting to see the size and strength of the starfleet after the loses in these two movies.

I don't really have a problem with Khan played by a brit - Montalban wasn't Indian either. And John Cho isn't Japanese.
