You have Jock co-workers? I thought you worked in IT.

Wasn't that the whole point in giving JJ the keys to the kingdom, though? to bring in fresh viewers - people who wouldn't normally consider going to a Star Trek movie.

I'm as anxious as you guys. The spoiler thread is a decent outlet but there's not a whole lot to discuss til the movie is out everywhere.

Star Trek Into Darkness Full Spoiler Discussion
Time

okay so SPOILERS....obviously -

Cumberbatch is KHAN and he is one of two villains - and kind of the lesser - the real Monster here is ADMIRAL MARCUS.

It's only when KHAN fails to escape WITH his people [still in cryo] that he turns really nasty.

The basic rundown is that Marcus and Section 31 [I love to hate those guys] search for and find KHAN and his crew - they awaken KHAN and force him to help them design weapons so that they can PROVOKE a war with the KLINGONS.

MARCUS is building a Warship in secret that is much larger than the enterprise - can travel faster warp speeds - can fire while at warp!!! - can't recall if they actually reference the ship by name in the movie.

The ending of the Film borrows heavily from TWOK but with roles changed around. Kirk dies of radiation - Spock screams out "KHAAAAAAAAAAN" - oh, and they still outsmart him with some quick thinking.

Prime spock [Nimoy] makes an appearance. He tells Quinto-Spock that he doesn't want to interfere - then tells him how dangerous Khan is - then doesn't bother to tell him ANYTHING USEFUL in defeating that man. Pointless cameo was pointless.

There is mention of New Vulcan but we don't get to see it.

Khan teleports from EARTH to KRONOS [english spelling] using Scotty's site to site algorithm from the previous film.

CAROL MARCUS lies about her identity to slip aboard the enterprise - she suspects her father is up to something.

In the end they just put KHAN back into cryo in a warehouse and set out on the 'five year mission'

Despite all that I really enjoyed the film. It plays a lot better onscreen than it reads in text.

Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time

EB GAMES [GAMESTOP] were having a big sale so I picked up a few things recently.

Playing through the latest Tomb Raider lately and having a lot of fun. The controls are great and it's nowhere near as frustrating as some of the older games.

Pretty good all round [acting / story] but Damn Lara takes a beating - I wince and cringe during almost every cutscene.

Star Trek into Darkness. 3 out of 4 Montalbans.

A lot of 3D films I've seen in the cinema have been pretty disappointing but Star Trek looks great. - Iron Man 3 felt VERY flat in comparison.

The story could have been better and yes it retreads stories that we've already had but it was quite a fun ride.

We get to see more of the ship and there are some cool designs for various things.

There was one scene that felt very awkwardly wedged in only to relate to a later scene - you'll know it when you see it.

Marvel is after all ' the House that Tony built'.

We're three Hulks deep and nobody cares but if they replace Downey Jr. there will be rioting in the streets ;)

Johansson was rather meh in Avengers IMO [Loved her in IM2] and it kinda sounds like Hemsworth is just having a Whinge. Yeah, It's a big difference but he signed a contract.

I'm sure we'll see RDJ in Avengers 2, He loves playing Tony / IM. A day may come when they don't need to rely on RDJ to prop up the Avengers franchise but I don't think we are there yet.

Have you tried out the holodeck yet? ;)

I need to reinstall EF one of these days. I want to play the Captain Proton mod in glorious black and white again.

Haha, I forgot about the Captain Proton campaign in the expansion. That was a really fun bonus.

Did you ever play Elite Force II, SilverWook? It came out during a period where I had lost interest in/didn't have time for games, I did eventually play a few levels in, but never any further.

I liked that it took place on the Enterprise E in a post Nemesis storyline and featured Patrick Stewart. Maybe I need to get my hands on a copy... I still have my original Elite Force and expansion somewhere too.

I played both games but EF2 never really engaged me like the first one did.
