The branding is a nice idea but I was hoping to get the "imaging" ideas worked out first before we head into other additions if any......

I believe that a few of our masters here are working on a presentation of ideas for the look so we can get a vote on what we like. I personally like the poster art for the OT and thought that those alone would look great with any OT set going into this box....Most of the best cover art I've seen revolves around the poster art. One or two McQuarrie concept pics might look nice if they could be incorporated into the design but I'm leaving the initial presentation up to those who know how to do it best since they have the experience and the obvious popularity by compliments they receive here in the forum.

Keep the idea's coming and lets get something great we can all appreciate and brag about to our friends when they see this on our shelves at home.......

Okay you all, here is my latest message from Paul. Take a read and lets see where this goes. It is a very reasonable offer I believe.....and if enough of us get on the train, he will lower the price. Keep those creative juices flowing.

The OT RULES!!!!

I'm glad it's working out.
I think you should maybe agree on a set of covers and then design the case to match and/or complement.

Until you tell me how many Amaray the case is to hold, I won't be able to give you the dimensions for the spine or top but the sides panels for an Amaray case need to be 1659 X 2300 pixels @ 300 dpi

These dimensions are for full coverage: edge to edge and top to bottom of the 3 main panels. If your design calls for an empty border around the artwork, you should allow for it.

On a side note, it would be important to get an idea of how many people are interested in getting a case. If we get enough interest, I'm prepared to cut you guys a deal. A numbered and limited custom case usually runs between $40 and $45, but again, if we have enough interest, I'll keep the price @ $30

I hope this will help the project get started.

And thanks to you for stepping up

Paul

I really am glad that this took off. I think voting would be a great way to do this.......and Mr. Champagne's compliments aside, this board deserves something nice like this to compliment it's intentions and beliefs.

The OT RULES!!!!

Just A Note:

I e-mailed Mr. Champagne back and let him know of the positive results his offer had. I mentioned the interest in custom designs by board members and asked him if he had any ideas to forward them so we could look and see if there is some middle ground in this.

I would SO love it if we could make this happen.........I'm think about something that was heard I'm sure by most of us when we were younger......"When one door closes, another one opens......PLZ, think good thoughts....

I am glad that I could "accidentally" be of some assistance to this great designer. I remember finding his site once and then forgetting where I found it until now. I am also actually considering and order of at least 2 tin sets for my stuff. Please let Mr. Champagne know that I hope he nails this guy to the wall, if he can. It is truly a shame that someone is ripping him and the fans off. On a plus note, it is cool that those of us here have a better chance of owning some of these great pieces at a much more comfortable price.

Cheers!!

The OT RULES!!!!

Just a Note: It would seem this seller is offering movies along with the tin for sale maybe tryin to justify his price. I don't know if anything can be done but anything is worth a try.......especially since the tins originally run for $30.00 and the movies he is offering maybe come to $50.00 he is still making at least $20.00 profit on each which will add up if he sells enough of them. It would have to be copyright infringement to get this seller knocked on his f@#$in a$&!!!! Case of "Buyer Beware" as usual on eBay. I hope he goes down.............

I opened this as a new post so all here on the board could respond in one place. Regarding my quote of my own post.....I contacted Mr. Paul Champagne personally and this was his response.......(partial)

Hello Shawn, You guys have a lot of very talented artists on that board(way to go originaltrilogy.com forum - whoohoo). If anyone is interested in designing some art for a full size case that could be numbered and limited to your members, let me know. That is certainly a project I would be honored to undertake. Thanks again for contacting me.

Paul

What are your thoughts and ideas on this.....it would be a momentous oppurtunity to have a tin "specially designed" for board members and to honour what we love most about Star Wars......the OT!!!! and this forum (Of Course.........)

Probably not, as the fame he got for doing Star Wars overwhelmed him in his twilight years and he hated that after all those infamous old war movies he had done, plus other more serious acts were just being dismissed, and that he'd always be remembered as only Obi-Wan. I was always saddened that he felt like that, but I spose I don't blame him, being a classic British actor of the old days of movie making, to be almost literally stalked by mass media, and uber geeks till his death. lol

I never knew this.............but even as the ghost of Obi-Wan did(conceede to the truth), so would Mr. Guiness I'm sure......hind sight is always 20/20. At least as far as I know, he is well respected by all who see him in anything he did. I for one sought out other pictures of his after the Star Wars Trilogy to find out what made him the man he was. He had such a prescence about him. And some of his older pictures were really fantastic. It was "Bridge Over The River Kwai" that got me hooked as a true fan of his......

Sorry, got carried away......that noise..................... STILL SUCKS!!!!

I hate to be the one to say this but..........................

That FREEKIN SUCKS!!!!!

Ben Burt shake the Bantha poodu outta your head and resign. George Lucas, get a haircut and get a REAL job!!!! That is a complete waste of sound. Sounds like some sort of aquatic mating call.............and considering Obi-Wan is a Jedi and in a desert environment, I don't think he's gonna be getting any answers to that anytime soon.......lmao

Sir Alec Guiness is probably rollin in his grave as we speak...........

Cool I just didn't want to step on anyones toes.

Mackey,

You didn't step on my toes as I didn't make any covers nor did I ever stake claim to any. The eBay one I thought had real potential in the "cover art" department, hence, my reason for posting it. Heck, I'm not even sure how to start actually trying to develop my own art for covers. There are so many out there with yours, Rikters, Dr. Gonzo's, Spider's and numerous others that I couldn't begin to fathom ever wanting something else as there just ain't that many versions of the OT to match......hahahaha

My main idea was to have a place to post them so all we had to do in here is post a link for people to go and see them. Everyone's rights and contributions being respected in the process. That is what it is all about anyways, a community working together with a common goal. The OT baby!!!! BTW, thanks for the nod of respect, it is appreciated.

It is a bummer, I agree. I just posted the link because I liked the general layout of the covers in that auction and thought they would be a nice addition to an already large collection of stuff. The "prillaman" site carried quite a few before having to cut out a bunch on account of bandwidth useage. I did an extensive search to find some of the things in my folder before getting Rikters torrent. I didn't actually realise stuff like this existed til recently when I purchased my first OT set on eBay. That is when the fun began. When I get the link up you can let me know if you see anything that is yours so it can be proplerly credited. Right now they are all tagged as I have found them.

HHHHHHmmmmmmmmm, I didn't mean to make anyone mad. Anything that I am uploading to obi's ftp is left named as I have found it except for the TPM & SE 2000 VCD Covers & Disc Art, link hopefully posted soon..........I truly believe that anyone who makes these should be credited even it they get modded from the original. Presentation can be everything when considering a selling point and these freekos should pony-up and reveal the truth. Shame on them for thinking they should not do otherwise. Dirty Jawas anyhow.

I agree that the logo is sadly placed and the backs could use some tweaking but it seems a good start for that set. I haven't seen Mackey's set as of yet but I hope too soon. I just love finding new cover art that could be added to the list of stuff already around. It is a great visual aid for anyone making their own.

STAR WARS: The Torrents thread
Time
Hey Rikter,

Just thought I'd let you know that I downloaded BT Thunder and managed to get the Cover Art torrent.......Fabulous collection of Cover Art man.......It tells me that the search I originally did for a week & 1/2 was well worth it. Some of the ones I found in small corners of the net I couldn't find anywhere else and then I got this file..........I done good boss.....lmao!!!!

I also took the liberty of scanning my 2000 VCD set of the SE and TPM so if anyone wants those for inspirational purposes (they come with disc art as well) and I can figure out how to make torrent files for them, I will put them up @ MySpleen and learn how to put the link to them in here.

First of all, if I haven't done it yet, Welcome. Nice to meet you. Secondly, Bravo to all that you've said in this thread. As I watch my dvd-r set of the OT I too realise when I'm watching TPM or AOTC that it is a different journey I'm seeing. One no longer driven by characters but by story as you so elequently put it. I am always open to new points of view and new ideas but when you take out someones heart, they cease to live and exist. And I do believe that GL has done just this. The actors are great but the story they bring to life is not the same emotion-driven tale that brought out the hero in all of us so long ago in a galaxy far, far, away.

Cheers Mate!!! Cheers for coming back home and for reminding us why were are all truly here, and why George Lucas, is truly someplace else.

A question of simple curiosity..... (OT releases)
Time

Hey all,

I realise that the OT is the shiznit. I feel the same. I have however acquired one set of the OT on DVD and the SE as well. Nice ways to archive and savor what we are gonna be missing from the new set. Here is my question:

I just received the SE on VHS still in its original packaging for $14.99 plus shipping. What a bonus, eBay smiled on me. Would it be any better transfer to take a new set like this and create a DVD archive set? Considering the THX and the “out of the box quality”, wouldn’t it be easier to make a clearer transfer than the LD or am I just having “delusions of grandeur”? Since we have so many people in here with the knowledge and capability to do it, I figured the worst you can say is “no” and move on. Hahahaheehee

Any ideas, thoughts, comments, or re-direction to another thread for answers would be most helpful.

Thanks!!

So whats better? Phantom or Clones?
Time
Well, seems like a good solid question I can reply to.....hahahaha

I have to say that between TPM and AOTC I think Menace is the closest to a "Star Wars" movie. Aside from the "new" look(colours, textures,...etc) of everything, it has the feel and mood of the trilogy. Acting sometimes seemed to lack the emotion of the originals but it seems to stay in the time period it is set. When the mood is present, I could feel it. I agree that the story is solid aside from not having a defined hero. My guess is that "jedi's" are the hero here....defining them and their place in the SW universe.

As for AOTC, it seems to lack the fire and passion in the acting as well but does deliver special effects galore via CGI. I am not a fan of total CGI and this movie reeked of it. Yoda kicking some "dooku arse" was quite nice to see though. It seems more rushed than TPM and everything that is supposed to be (prequel) old seems newer than the OT.....and to me that didn't make for a great invitation for excitement. Readout panels in the ships are just one example. The one particular killer for me was "The Love Story". Han and Leia didn't need this to make it work and they didn't stifle the rest of the story with it. This one did. Even the "Theme Song" for it was just wasted on this moment when they could have been busy fixing the mood and making it more natural.

What both these movies needed was to have looked more like the originals so that the flow and the mood stayed intact. The CGI seemed more like a "mass marketing tool" than it did a support device for an obviously complex story. The OT managed without it(aside from the SE which I still enjoy regardless), why did the prequels need it? They didn't!!

Thanks for lettin me air my opinion.
