POLL: So Who Bought Them & Who Didn't? (the 2006 GOUT DVD release)
Time
Let me first take a cue from 88keyz in another thread, I forgot my manners while postiing.

A BIG thank you to George Lucas and company for putting the Original, Unexpanded, Unedited, Unspecialized Original Trilogy where ALL fans of the Original could find it and appreciate it. Regardless of the set it came in it is STILL appreciated.

It seems like my post lost a little when I typed it earlier so I wanted to clarify. I really like the unusual menus for the bonus discs as it keeps the dating of the original trilogy. Hearing the music playing in the background was a nice nostalgic touch as well, I just didn't realise until it was pointed out to me above, so I paid a bit better attention when watching Jedi so I now recant.....lol. I realise that the bonus discs aren't perfect but my DVD player handled them fine and my TV allowed me to adjust the picture to give me a great experience while watching them....there is SUCH a big difference between this set and the 2004 discs. Story wise, music wise, and plain old feeling wise. The artwork for the bonus discs almost "looked" bootlegged....maybe George's way of reaching us with his awkward sense of humor knowing we ARE here to stay.

Anyways, I am sorry this didn't come off in my other post, my mind wasn't focused I guess and the content suffered. My apologies. May I be tossed to the Sarlaac in a barrel full of Bantha Poodoo.......NOT!!!!

Thanks for letting me clear up my post.

I bought the set in pre-order from the Star Wars Shop. The only bummer for me is that Best Buy fans get the Tin Case, Circuit City fans get the Lithos, Target fans get the concept art, and all the Star Wars Shop fans got was the lousy "Who Shot First?" collectable Topps card that is part of a series, but you have to buy other things to get the other cards.....I guess I will scour eBay for a good price on the lithos as I like the way they look and they would make a nice blank spot on my wall alot nicer.

I watched Empire first and that one seemed pretty nice. My T.V. allows me to zoom and with the letterbox I did just that and it looked alot better that way. The only other thing I seemed to notice aside from the inlays for each disc was the "retro" disc art for the bonus discs...not really a grand touch but something unusual anyways. The menus for the bonus discs could have had a better treatment but they probably figure if you ARE buying them for the bonus discs you aren't buying them for the menus.

Anyways, I look forward to watching the other too just to see how dated I remember them to be and what made me fall in love with them in the first place, aside from shelling out another round of cash for a set of discs I already own.

I did not want to disrespect anyone so that is why I waited. Jay sent a response to my query and I sent you my addy. My sincere thanks to you for taking care of this....I don't know what has gone awry but I am glad to know that someone understood my concern and is taking care of me. I know you have plenty of your own stuff to do so it means that much more to me that you offered.

HUGE BIG THANKS 2 U Rikter, you are a gentleman and a scholar.....to say the least.

It is good to hear that at least Laserman is home.....alot of healing can happen there as compared to a hospital setting.

It is also good to hear that DAVY is getting his discs ready to role....he sent me an e-mail response letting me know his intentions to do so. I have patience in me so I will hold out....when they arrive I will make sure to let him know.

Thanks to all who have made this place what it is.....and thanks to all our new members for trying to learn the ropes and find some peace in an otherwise uneasy universe......

A SPARK OF HOPE FOR LASERMAN
Time
Any word on how Laserman and his are coming along? I do hope life is better with him and his family..... This community showed quite the effort when most regular communities fall short. I have always been proud to be a member here, even if I'm not always here...lmao!!! Anyone got a cot free?? Anyways............

As of today, I have received nothing still....do I need to resubmit my paypal receipt for verification of donation? To whose e-mail address do I need to send it to? I have also not received any e-mails asking me to re-submit my address for shipping purposes. If there is a need for assistance in the payment of postage to get it sent out please let me know so I can help. Any chance there aren't any discs left so some of us won't be getting anything, even an e-mail politely explaining that, I dunno what else to ask really.

Any answers to my query would be most appreciated as well. Thanks for being understanding.

Nuff said for me........and a problem having new members.....NO way.....Star Wars is not an all inclusive homo-sapiens only club.....it's for everyone...and THAT is what ole George forgot, it's NOT about him.

The Official Lucasfilm Response
Time
Another HOT topic (and rightly so) raging like an inferno through the OTC forum.......glad I wore my wet-suit to this party...... Just kidding folks.

On a lighter, more empassioned note...

Rebel Rouser makes a clear point. I, just as much as everyone else, wants to be able to re-live and enjoy the "magic" that I grew up with. The story that made me fall into the sci-fi rapture. I sorely miss the Original Trilogy.....and that is exactly what this home of homes for us fans is based on. Mr. Lucas is not the same man he was when he envisioned and fought to create a hysteria that at the time even he couldn't imagine.

Now, with the digital age upon us and corporate America running amok, even people in his capacity can forget where it is they come from.....especially when that is compiled with years of pressure, frustration, loss, success, and having fewer years ahead than you have behind. I am not fully convinced that it is Mr. Lucas who is behind some conspiracy to squash all those who he emblazened so long ago with a dream to create things that all people can enjoy and relate to even in some small way. That is what good film-making is all about.

People visit this site and hear about it through other means and it is up to US to show that as true fans, we are hoping that what once was, can be again. As true fans we need to stay determined and professional about our cause. We need to appeal to the side of Mr. Lucas that helped inspire this awesome site and fuel so many dreams and hopes, the side that believed in the magic of what he was born for and would set him apart from all his peers........the magic of the Original Trilogy.

I love this site and all it's possibilities.........we need to keep that thought close if we are going to move in the right direction.

Peace 2 All!!!!

The Official 2006 Discs Will Be No Better Than What We Have!
Time
On the Dr. Gonzo set are the ones I am talking about....from the Definitive Collection. I guess maybe they're not promos per se, I meant the Star Wars THX spots before each movie in the LaserDisc set......we are taking about the same ones right? I just thought it would be nice easy extra's for George Lucas to include, for historical perspective if nothing else.....

Ya know, the more I think about it, if George Lucas is a completist then the disc set coming out would be better appreciated by me if one disc had the OT Faces Japanese quality version and the other had the 97 SE Japanese quality version. The would make for great comparison if they were in the same set, and a treat for all the fans. After all that has gone on with these movies that would be a way to put to rest plenty of ghosts for George. This way they could maybe include the "Making Of The SE" tidbit on the LD set and maybe all the trailers for those. I am gonna purchase the sets starting in September and just go from there. Any other versions I need I have gotten whilst being a member here and at least here I know people care about what they create.

That's enough for me.

On a little side note:

Actually, as I was watching my Dr. Gonzo set I thought how nice it would be to have those Definitive "THX" promo's as well....those were really cool. Please don't flame me for this post, I was just thinking out loud. I have never been able to keep up with all the "technical" conversations as my knowledge doesn't extend as far as most others here but I do know what I miss and that is the OT I grew up with.

That just may be some of the method behind the madness.......just food for thought anyways...heehee

Lucas & the SW fans; the greatest sadomasochistic relationship in the world!

I was being sarcastic.....hence the heehee, maybe I should have added the j-kidding afterwards, my bad.

The Official 2006 Discs Will Be No Better Than What We Have!
Time
WOW,

As I have been away for awhile I see that somethings have changed and others.....well, errrrrrr............moving right along. It is nice to see all of you regulars and welcome to all of those who are new. This really is a great place for Star Wars discussion as is proven in this thread alone. And that is my lead in to what I wanted to say.........

Over the time that I have been here I have seen so many posts of different caliber and substance. All of them with a unique outlook and opininon, some shared and some not, but always people willing to take what they've seen, heard, or read and bring it into the whole. That is what makes this site so diverse and fantastic. The one thing that sometimes seems to slip away from us IS those differences. With the news of this DVD set coming from the Lucasfilms camp it would seem that what little they do say again causes fever in all camps Star Wars with here being NO exception.

I am a long time fan and have waited for this day to come. I signed the petition like we all have done, because I believe in the "magic" of the Original Trilogy. It IS what made this whole thing possible. I am fortunate enough to own some of the finest "labour of love" LD transfers in this galaxy and I also own retail material to augment my fascination with Star Wars. I appreciate ALL of it. If George Lucas wants to do what he wants to do, that is his perogative, but if it comes at the expense of his own creative origins then he needs a huge time-out with himself. He may have gotten lost but US fans NEVER should. We are supposed to be on the SAME side even though our opinioins are guided by our individual and unique natures.

This new DVD set is a blessing regardless of how it is packaged. It is a STEP in the right direction. I may not agree with the way it seems to be presented to us as fans but I will not snub my nose at progress. Without it, all we have is what you see and read in these posts......conjecture, speculation, emotion, and NO actual DVD release. I am sure that most all of you will agree that at least it's something till something more comes along. Beggars should never be choosers, and WE, should NEVER be beggars, just fans coming together for a common cause that we ALL believe in......the MAGIC of the Original Trilogy!!!!!!

This is just my humble opinion and in NO way reflects the views of management, their staff, the Jawas and/ or Stormtroopers they contract out for all their "dirty" work.....

Have a nice day all of you!!!!
