The "ghosting" you see is inherent to the GOUT - it's a byproduct of the DVNR used at the time the transfer was made.

As for the imperfections I noticed...shows you how much I actually watch the GOUT DVD's.....I watch my laserdiscs way more and I don't remember ever seeing it on them....now I know why.....LMMFAO.

Thanks for reviewing the set, Jetrell Fo. To be honest, I didn't expect much but it still looks like it's worth checking out.

Although, mattmanalpha says the GOUT is the main source. Isn't it? Why would he recreate the 1977 crawl if it was already there? If you mean the 1981 crawl, then I thought he said he got that one from the 1993 laserdisc.

My bad about the crawl thing....the 1977 looked newer than it should and that would fall on Lucas......and maybe I'm entirely wrong.  Would NOT be the first time that has happened.....LOL

The GOUT is the main source.  I'm watching Jedi right now and it is really nice to have like this.  All of the audio options alone are worth the time.

I haven't burned the bonus discs just yet.  I will try to get to them in the next day or so.

Can we see some screenshots please Jethrell Fo? It would be much appreciated.

Sure, let me pick out a few from each disc and I'll get them up.

Okay,

I've watched SW & Empire from the Rebellion Set.  If I were to take a stab without knowing from mattman himself I'd say some video compression was allowed to make room for all the audio options available on each of the main discs.  I noticed what I'd guess you might consider ghosting is scenes where body motion is a bit quick.  If you adjust your T.V. settings properly they become harder to notice outright.

Not that I'm an expert but I'd say the 1977 opening crawl for Star Wars is a recreation.  It looks really nice though.

I would consider this project a nostalgia set from what I've seen so far.  The fact that it's got bonus material that we've all seen with each respective film only adds to the mystique of this set.  Watching these reminded me of when I saw these movies in the drive-in theater...but cleaner of course.

Lastly, there are short video sections which give credit to all the parts used to help make this set a whole.  People and video releases used get actual screen mention as well as the software used to make it possible...that is such a cool thing to see.

If you're a fan that likes to have a variety of versions to chose from on a rainy, snowy, or lazy day......these are worth getting.

P.S.

I do want mention, yet again, that the artwork for these is very frickin cool.

To be fair, he does work in the industry, which paints a much bigger target on his back than someone like, say, Adywan, who doesn't.

Trent Reznor works in the music industry and he openly admitted to downloading music via torrents and was open about his membership @ OiNk's.

What the Original Unaltered Trilogy needs is more open and seasoned supporters like himself.  Maybe when mverta is ready....he'll share his vision and hard work with this ever-growing community as so many others have before him.

It will be a day long remembered when it comes.

And yes, he never said he would publicly release it when he was done, because of the trouble it would cause.

I mean no disrespect to anyone when I say.....

Everyone who does a restoration, archive, or edit falls in to this category, not just him.  I would guess that he is not interested in releasing the fruits of his labor because it's his labor.

Anyone whom has done a restoration, edit, or archive has based it upon work done by others before them.  The only difference is that those doing them have access to different or limited types of resource.  They still work hard and then share them.  I wonder how many edits, archives, or restorations he has in his collection that were labored on by others.  I also wonder how many people own the "Han Shot First" shirts @ $20.00 a pop.

It's all relative and a horse a piece really.

It is also perfectly natural for those here who now know about this to be interested in a release because they've probably done their own and/or been helped by the generosity of others so the community could benefit from it.

My own opinion is, if he's uninterested in helping out the community by releasing what he's done then the subject should stay hidden in the closet with his project until he's ready for his close-up.

Again, no disrespect or ill will directed towards anyone, it's just how I feel.

Long Live Star Wars!!!!

Thanks for the nod.  I stumbled upon it yesterday by accident and have been downloading the entire set.....I'm almost done.

There are 7 discs total in this set and some pretty cool arse artwork to boot.  I've already got about 6 GB's of artwork for probably most of the Star Wars cover art that's out there and these are some of my favorite covers to date.

When I get them burnt I will watch and let you know....but I'd bet someone here gets to a review before I do.....LMAO.

Thanks to mattman for this cool opportunity.  Thanks to The Aluminum Falcon for taking the time to create the thread.

Wow! Is there a thread about the Rebellion Collection? How did a set like this go unnoticed? It looks pretty cool. Has anyone checked it out yet? How does it compare to DJ's V3 or the LFL Pwnage?

EDIT: HOLY! Mattmanalpha also made an AVCHD of the original Empire. How are his releases going unnoticed??? Has anyone checked this out???

EDIT: EDIT: Would anyone mind if I made a thread about these releases? They look pretty awesome.

I just found it by accident and I'm downloading it all now (I LOVE Jdownloader)......you HAVE a pm.....

I wonder if it's a stripped down version of this....

Star Wars Trilogy: Rebellion Collection by mattmanalpha

Let me start by saying full credit for the extras and sources are included on each disc in a "DVD Credits" portion of the menu. After all, I want to be sure I give full acknowledgement to anyone whose work I "borrowed" from.

The main video sources for the films are the NTSC GOUT DVDs. They were upconverted to 16x9 using my own scripts, which were inspired by scripts I spotted on OriginalTrilogy.com by G-Force and Moth3r.

The video source for the '81 opening is the '93 Definitive LaserDisc.

Audio sources include:
- The '93 Definitive LaserDiscs
- The '95 Faces LaserDiscs
- The '85 CAV Full Screen LaserDiscs of Star Wars and Empire
- The '86 CLV Full Screen LaserDisc of Jedi
- The Belbucus Restored Mono Mix for Star Wars

Supplements are sourced from:
- The Rowman Star Wars releases (Original Home Video Spots)

it looks bad, I have both the DVD5 and DVD9 versions and they look bad.

I have the dvd9 version also and sometimes i swear im watching a VHS copy.

If you're a completist, it's nice to have.  I found that adjusting my T.V. settings can get me a pretty good quality picture.

Looks to me like they compromised video quality for extra audio features.

Any chance Jetrell Fo you can upload some screenshots of this 1997SE 5 Star collection to show us how the transfer looks?

I gotta agree with dj....the video is not outstanding but if you don't own them on laserdisc or at least want the option to have them in your collection then this would be the way to go as they are a straight transfer from the U.S. LD set with no tweaking.

The ones I have are the Dual Layered ones.

You know the thing with these Verb DL donations that is kind of funny, for 1 thing, it took me a while to even decide I want to do this, I HATE when people take donations for these things, because some of the projects never even show up(I won't name examples) and then you have some here that really get a lot of $ donated and I think that is just crazy(because for me, I would feel like I have to pay that cash back) but to each their own right, that is why I finally decided to accept blank Verb DL's, I most certainly did NOT want money, but the blanks are truly a help, but all that said, only a very select few even offered at the time, but now that everything is finished, now I get a lot of PM's for offers, all I can think of is this, where were you guys back when I started to take them LOL, and these are just my opinions only, and as I said above, I am not 100% certain I won't accept anymore, some were already trashed in error\problems(no bad burns though, got a great burner) and then I think that more testers is also a better thing, who knows.

*Edit - and please do not think I am trying to be a smart ass to you guys, I really do like most of the members here, and appreciate the offers still, hell one guy offered some blank Blu-ray Discs LOL if I didn't need DL's, these projects don't even use those, but since I have a BD burner, those might be nice, especially for my next project.

Ya know, this got me thinking.......

I'm not trying to be a smart ass to anyone either but I offered to send you a 10pk of Japan-made JVC DL's when you were looking for donations and you turned them away because they weren't Verbatims.

It was your choice, of course, and I'm patient enough to wait for these to be shared with everyone when the time comes.

I am glad and thankful for your time and work on this and that these will see the light of day regardless.

Well, if they ever get tehparadox to work properly it would be a good place for folks who know and like to use JDownloader.  Every single time I try to access the site it drags like cement bricks encased in lead.  There are also times when clicking links there where I get diverted to some "pay for" downloading site....it sucks.

Any suggestions on easier ways to navigate it would be greatly appreciated.

Try a new ISP?  I've never had any problems loading TehParadox.

As much as I appreciate your attempt at assistance, switching ISP's just for this is not a viable solution.

I'll figure it out on my own.  Thanks.

You can check the menu's in Russ's "Galatic Trade Federation" website:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/russdawson/gtf/dvd/OT/edit.html

They were posted to a.b.sw this year.

Thanks none...I was just watching my Dr. Gonzo set whilst perusing the forum and seeing the editdroid set mention.  When I checked the link my memory about the thread started coming back out of the fog.

I'll do a search for it and check it out.  It's probably a set I should have for the collection.

Yeah the editdroid ones are the best overall, but yeah they do have the permeant subs. The quality is so nice though that they've never been a problem for me. God I hope they just get some or most of these original making ofs on the bluerays. These and the MIA "Michel Parbot" one done for Empire thats only been teased about in other threads.

I found this one above....it's the Hologram box set....4 days left on it.

:)

The only early VHS set I have is the 1984-86 set, but I believe it's full screen.  I've got the Faces VHS Collectors Widescreen Box.

The one you're searching for, is it the VHS companion to the DC?

My letterbox VHS auction got sniped at the last minute, and now my "tons of these for dirt cheap" have all dried up. Since I've already got the V8 for EpIV, and Adywan's EpV reconstruction isn't too shabby...I'm not sure I want to pay a minimum of $15-20 just for EpVI =(

Which VHS letterbox set were you looking at?

Ghostbusters: We're Ready to Believe You (* unfinished project *)

I personally own 2 versions of Ghostbusters on LD

Criterion CAV 2 Disc Set, First Printing

Laservision Extended Play Letterbox Release, Mono Compatible

If either of these sets would help create something extremely cool for this project I'd be willing to lend them out.

I love both of these movies and would love to see an "Ultimate" edition of sorts that would cover all the aspects of them.

Cheers
