Also the Laserdiscs are not the best picture quality source in the first place, that is why people have used DVB over the air pal recordings, and a digibetacam tape for reconstructing these versions.

I haven't seen any version that isn't tweaked in some way to include the color correction.  All I personally would like to see is the 1997 SE with just color correction, nothing more.  This way it is archived for what it is as a stand alone set.

The 5 Star Collection was what got me thinking about a straight transfer that was cleaner with the 5.1 Audio and in the end, maybe nicer all around.

If there was a DVD9 version of JUST the DVB Pal recordings with ONLY color correction I'd be perfectly happy.

Thanks for all the responses.....I have this set from Lee and since I don't have a 5.1 surround setup listening to it normally I didn't notice the audio issue.  I love the way these look for sure and I'm glad to have them.

If there is a good way to do this and make it work without sacrificing anything, I'm all for it.

Is there a PAL 5.1 equivalent audio rip instead of the NTSC audio?  Maybe at least someone here who'd consider capturing the audio from your LD's if you sent them out?  That would probably be a better way to address this, though it would add some time to it....could be far more worth it in the end instead of the audio you have now not getting the chance to shine properly.

Just some thoughts anyways.....

Lee,

Let me applaud you for staying straight and focused in this thread.  Everyone has a right to an opinion for sure but you haven't even flinched when you received criticism that read a bit tough and discouraging.

I have supported this project of yours from the get go and I'll happily keep supporting it as the 1997 S.E. does deserve a good archive, especially a DL LD one and I firmly believe that your work here could only benefit others who may try their own if they can get past all the minutia of software, scripts, coloring, and so forth.

Cheers my friend.....

:)

Thanks!  I was very upset to lose them, as I spent quite a bit of time on them.

I've got a set of unused covers for the Special Letterbox Collector's Edition of this VHS set from a guy who used to work for the company who printed them......they are very cool.

Thanks for uploading what you did....and thanks to DJ for the alternate link.

Cheers!!!!

Unfortunately, all of this script talk is still totally "greek" to me.

It kinda makes me shy away from doing a full blown archive myself because it makes me realize that I actually understand very little about the creation process beyond the basic transfer of LD from analog to the digital domain.

Now I'm bummed out................

Info: article on censoring Tom And Jerry
Time

The pussification of the world we live in is crap.

Can these same people "censor" our "troubles" too?  I really wish they would....seems it would be a far better tactic than censoring cartoons if they want to make the world a better place.  It would also be far less intrusive than having to play a Country music song backwards just so people can get all their stuff back.....LOL

Tom & Jerry Rule!!!!!

Is there a transfer of this out there somewhere?

If not, would anyone be interested in seeing an archive of this LD?  Since it would be a fairly simple transfer I think I could manage it.

I don’t know much about the newsgroups so I would make it a torrent on Demonoid.

Thanks

My faces laserdiscs pressed in japan have neither the sharpness or the saturation of the gout even if they came from the same master.  The  softness in the picture makes the DVNR smear on especially very grainy scenes less horrible.

I still wonder if they added sharpening to the DVD's, Star Wars looks horrible and unwatchable on the gout DVD.  While the laserdisc is certainly passable for 1995.

My Japan "Faces" is this way as well.  The U.S. version is much clearer...which set was pressed first?

Thanks for the screen shots, Jetrell Fo! I appreciate how he gave this website credit. It's a nice touch :-) but did he insert that into the movie credits or afterwards as a special feature or something?

Nope.

There is a link in the menu for these specific credits....there is even Star Wars music that plays as the "thanks" appear.

Well, when I say inherent to the GOUT, I mean the master used to make the GOUT.  So the Definitive Collection and "Faces" laserdiscs have the smearing, too.

And the 1977 crawl on the GOUT DVD was transferred separately from the rest, so it - and, by extension, the first shot - looks substantially nicer than the rest of the film.

Well then, I'd guess that would mean my Pioneer DVL-90 does a fairly nice job of keeping that stuff tame as I don't remember noticing it like I did here.

Sounds like DJ's V3 has this set beat.

I believe you're missing the point sky, this thread wasn't designed to be a competition against DJ's set.....this set is a stand alone and never was intended to compete against anything or anyone.
